    The law requires that they must collect taxes if they or a subsidiary are in California.
    Amazon has two research labs in CA, the first does work on searches the second did the design work on the Kindle and is rumored to be working the new Kindle and the upcoming Android based tablet.
    So Amazon may be willing to not fight for the associate program but will probably fight to kill the law to protect themselves and keep theses two subsidiaries.

    Bad writing of an article. The dust was stolen in 1969, so selling it would be illegal. However because of various reason the federal government will not be pressing charges, so no illegal act was charged. It would also be hard to prove that the sellers were knowingly selling a stolen item.

    Get a better source for your news.
    For the decision on generic drugs the court said they cannot be held to a higher responsibility then the drug they are coping. The original drugs did not have to have the warning so the copies of the drugs did not need the warning and could not be sued because the warning was not there. A very logical decision.

    Again a very poor summary and let me predict that most of the comments on this board will be from idiots who think they understand the decision from the summary.
    The decision said that states cannot limit the speech* of companies that purchase info from pharmacies to one specific group, in this case manufacturers of drugs. If they want to limit the speech it has to be to everyone not just one class.

    *There have been previous longstanding decisions that say that some data is free speech and cannot be limited by the states or federal government.

    Ignoring that Wierd Al always gets permission, see his problems with Gangstra Paradise and Beautiful, there are limitions using items for parody.
    If you are going to use a song or other copywritted material for parody it has to be a parody against the item or owner that you are using. Franken worked because he directly commented on Foxnews, if that was not the case he would of been in trouble. See the Pretty Woman supreme court case.
    For an example of Wierd Al it would be hard to link "Eat it" as a parody on "Beat It"

    In addition to services like this ISP is providing, my current ISP does email filtering for SPAM. According to the various bills being proposed that would be illegal.

    In addition to what others have said, large companies will usually also have an employee handbook which spells out processes, benefits, etc.
    The employee handbooks have been determined to be a contract, in most states, so if the process for firing a person in that are not followed than you have a legal case.

    That is what I use to do for my development machines, stand alone virtual machines no network access so I could do what I need.
    Then the IT office above us made a rule that standalone machines had to follow the same rules as those on the domain.

    I am presuming you are from the USA.
    The USA changes the poverty line yearly, it is not a fixed amount instead it is based on a percent of the money paid out as salaries. It is usually calculated in the March of each year.

    Reading about it, if you don't make a selection then you are in the "standard" filter, which is the same a what is currently available. However some sites are currently already blocked so would continue to be blocked in the "standard" package.
    The guy pushing this, there is also some disagreement over if it is constitutional is doing on the basis that the free market has failed in this and the government needs to make sure that the filter options are provided and followed.

    They add in all the costs that even remotly relate to the topic.
    For attacks it includes all the classes people are sent to, extra hardware/software, that companies hire a security person, even that I have to spend some time looking through web logs instead of reading /..

    You would have to purchase the raw materials so you would be taxed on that, unless it works on pulling items from the air.
    Also the plans, aka content, for the printer would be sold and a tax paid for on that.

    It is not an input device it is an output device with an ever so often email or input where you select from predefined options.
    Once you start thinking of it that way it becomes useful. Surfing the web away from home or on the couch and entertainment are what it is does. I use to have the mentality that you have but then used it for night. If I was back at an older job where I was traveling most of the time it would be right next my laptops. Even now if I was not a cheapskate I would purchase one for home use because after monitoring what I do at home when on the couch or chair is things the tablets are good for, when I need to do technical work I go over to my full blown computers.

    Read the Morse v. Frederick decision. It is very specific in that it applies to promotion of the use of illegal drugs.
    The only way it could tie into a claim of protecting the student safety is if the discussion was about illegal activities and even then the decision specificy states the reason it was valid was because it was done at a school function.
