Actually this is what I did with Wine. The "resolution" was 800x600 and runs starcraft at "full screen".... at least that's how it used to be when I played SC on linux. Now OS X has a native windowed mode so... yeah.
To specifically address the point of deploying software (and configurations) across a network try www.wpkg.org. It provides a simple way to push, upgrade and remove software with the platform. I've used it along side WSUS and was very pleased with the results. It was much simpler than wsus, IMHO.
While slashdot loves their car analogies, this is far off.
An engine is a physical piece of equipment. Software is not.
One is governed by rules and the other is not. You can't take impressions from a disc and apply the same rules as a car. The software has strings attached governed by law, similar to the engine but in the end they're very different. Don't like the law, go through the system to get it changed.
So what do you do when someone doesn't read the reports you're sending them on a bi-weekly basis and asks them to be emailed as if they were never being sent in the first place? Handling people with kid gloves is different than correcting their mistakes and explaining they've been emailed at a consistent rate for the last 8 months of the project's duration ESPECIALLY when you're CCing the COO at the same time who's actively been involved in the project.
Take it up with the manager's manager. You *DID* learn to cover your ass from a manager's incompetence, didn't you?
I used to work for a company like that and told them if they wanted me to look like the other managers in business attire sans jacket complete with tie and nice shoes, they were going to be paying for my dry cleaning and clothing related expenses. No one likes crawling under desks, into crawl spaces for wiring or under the raised floor when shit goes wrong let alone doing it in a long-sleeved, button up neck choking shirt with a tie that catches on everything and collects dust like a swiffer duster.
They relaxed their policies on my department after that. Not me completely, however. I was the tech's <realplayer>buffer</realplayer> between them and management so it was... tolerable.
More than one team working in concert to solve a whole package's worth of problems. A different team for: health of the travelers, engineering/physics/telemetry etc (transportation as the overall master team?); localized computer network(s), intra solar communications network (solnet?).
Why not? You have an EULA. The "L" in there is License and A for Agreement. Don't like the terms, don't use the software. That's the Law, regardless of your opinion on the matter.
Then why bother having different TLD's? If Harvard has the.edu and other FQDNs, why do we even bother having multiple? It's not like slashdot.edu matters because that school of thought is at the dot org already. How many white houses are there (ok, stop with teh porn site references right now...)? Or cia? or microsofts?
Why don't we get rid of the TLD all together and just type in http://microsoft/ and be done with it?
Very insightful. I liken it to giving a kid a stern lecture when he really needs a good ass-kicking. Sometimes you need to do what the military is good at. War. Destruction. Blaze everything in it's path until it's complete. None of this policing bullshit. If they were allowed to do their job, there wouldn't be any policing required because anyone who even thought of standing in their way (let alone get confrontational) would scare them shitless if they had their heads screwed on straight.

You can tell the difference between how an animal was treated and it's taste?
Bullshit. This is just pseudo science junk made for people to feel better about their own choices. I've tried both and the only difference *I* notice is the level of non-growth hormones in the local farmers stock. They're all still treated like the animals they are. Dinner. How you *feel* about your method of killing an animal is of no consequence to the end result of it's taste.
You're one of the few and I'm glad there are more of us around. It brings a little sense of peace to my world.
I've worked in the aerospace engineering and IT industries (both non-military/military companies) and it's like pulling teeth from a hippo to make sure some things are done properly. Only _one_ engineer understood this "do it once or don't do it at all" (verbatim, his words) philosophy. it was a quality you could see in his 45 years as a professional.
"They don't build them like they used to" was an old homage my grandfather always said. I'm starting to see what he might have meant.
I use TOR mostly for browsing.onion sites, inaccessible without it. Also, if you set up your connection/system properly, you *can* browse anonymously. The idea is that your ISP and external website (and exit node) can't identify who you are. This is a VERY good thing. I would, however, not log into any service that could identify me as "me" online through tor. Ever.
As a personal opinion, many of the.onion services (forums etc) are more interesting than what's on the rest of the public internet anyways. It's amusing and interesting to see what people have to say on forums when they are really able to be anonymous (trolling aside).
jailbreak it with blackra1n if you can and install the mobile Terminal from Cydia. No need to buy anything since there are those who are gracious to offer their software for free. Sometimes the software I use is so valuable it's almost a shame there's no easy way to donate to those who give it away.

How exactly isn't a shuttle to mars an enclosed environment in space?
This is exactly what you should do everytime someone stiffs you on a paying job. It *will* piss them off.

That's one big twinkie.
Twitter wouldn't die. It can be used without a web login you know.

You're probably the only person to read the actual article.
