    I agree. The average users that Apple targets though its advertising campaigns ("Switch", "Think Different", etc) will never hear about this flagrant disregard for its users. Not until they've shelled out 2 G's for a shiny new G5.

    Apple should milk its fanatical user base for every penny they're worth. Apple has never apologized before (remember the short-lived outcry after they started charging for that .Mac service?) - Apple users quickly forgive and forget.

    Why don't announcements like these affect Microsoft's stock price? You'd think that after Germany, China, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam announced their intention to ditch Microsoft products in favor of Linux, the price of MSFT shares would drop.

    I have the Nokia 3650 with a 640x480 camera, and I'm happy with it. But my phone was free after rebate - good luck finding the 7700 for under $400. For that price, can we PLEASE get a decent a camera???

    Perhaps by "dual processor" they're not refering to multiprocessing but rather redundancy. I can't see them needing a huge amount of processing power - but I can see the need for some kind of a failover mechanism in case one processor dies during combat.

    You're correct, ps2pdf uses the Ghostscript engine, which does not yet support links (AFAIK).

    Actually, PostScript doesn't support links anyway, so you'll lose them as soon as you printed to PS.

    Take a look at CutePDF - they stuffed GhostScript into a Windows print driver. It's worked well with the things I've thrown at it. It's also free and GPL.

    I'd like to second that. I'm pulling data from Oracle and dynamically generating letters using FPDF, backing them up, and then sending them to a printer. FPDF gave me the pixel-level precision required to copy the customer's layout. It also handles graphics very well - I'm placing the client's logo on each page.

    Red Hat's up2date utility upgraded and restarted SSH without disconnecting my SSH session. I was expecting to get kicked off but it just worked.

    So, do you think Apple can hold out if Microsoft decided to bundle "Miscrosoft Music Store" in the next version of Windows Media Player? There's already a "Buy Music" button on the WMP main screen - at least on my XP installation at home. Probably a partner service. I've never even considered clicking on it, though.

    sure, but my phone flies around the country with me. how long is the extension on your landline? Exactly - your mobile phone will also continue to work if you blow a fuse or trip a breaker. Or, though unlikely to happen, if you forget to pay your power bill and get cut off.

    Dude, relax, how much time do you think he's devoted to writing two articles about Spam? It's not like he's releasing any anti-spam code either, he just comes up with good ideas, writes articles, and inspires others to do the programming! I'm sure he's put many times the effort into this lisp thing you mentionned than into anti-spam solutions.
