I can just see someone whose house is on fire or a medical emergency waiting for the computer to boot so they can call for help. Why can't they make one that is a stand alone device that works on cat 5 so one can connect it to one's router and eliminate the computer. Second is the man I work for. He has one and has a old computer that he runs 24/7. He has an area code that is hundreds of miles away so if his neighbor wants to call him the call is a long distance call for that neighbor. He has a phone line from that computer to a phone with more than one lines so he can use the magicjack by pressing its line on the phone. Anyway I guess it is okay for calling out and for people who would have to use long distance to call you. I do not know how they can charge so little since I use my Charter for my phone company. The cost seem to be attractive until one adds all the fees and taxes. The real cost is not that much better than Verizon's phone service. How do they get away without paying for 911 services? How about federal and state taxes too? That is why I do not use vonage since they will never quote the true cost since taxes and fees are always added to the quoted price and after one does that the true cost is not worth not having someone to call and complain to if there are any problems. I have used Charter for about 3 years now and have not had any problems with it. It has a adapter with a coaxial line to it. I have a cordless phone connect to the adapter and I have 3 other cordless phone in other rooms that use that system and it works fine. But since the first year has expired the cost is not any better that Verizon and I have that adapter box which will not work if there is no power so if I lose power I will have no way to call for help. They could have radar on them and since they are much higher than and ship's they could cover a far greater area than the ships. They could also turn on and off their radars in a random fashion and still cover a given area. They would therefore not provide a way for an enemy to passively track them. So why did the Navy want to pay for the fuel for a conventional powered ship rather than paying the expense of refueling a nuclear powered ship? It is strange since when I retired from the Navy, every ship that I had been a member had already been mothballed even those ships that were built after I had first joined. The only nuclear powered ships today are aircraft carriers and submarines. Submarines are nuclear powered since they do not need oxygen to run. Conventional powered submarines need to surface to run their diesels to recharge their batteries and thus were exposed during that time. Aircraft carriers are large enough to save money over conventional power so unless the Navy goes back to nuclear powered ships, they belief in only big nuclear reactors. In order to run those generators at peak efficiency they must be ran at the same output 24 hours a day. They do not want to shut some of them off at night because of the damage caused by constantly allowing contraction and expansion by shutting them off. The Lake Michigan shore area is also an excellent source of wind but there are no windmills here at the present time. If they did build windmills to turn the blades to pump the water up(they are also used to generate the electricity), what would they do with the excess power generated at night? The primary reason for it existence is to store that power. The only way it would work if they could depend on enough wind to always pump the needed water so that they could permanently shut some of the generators down but one can not depend on the wind that much.

I myself spent almost 2 years in schools before going to the fleet. I soon found out that what the schools taught you were relevant in only about 20% of what was expected of you. The most important job was to keep the ship clean and well painted. The second most important job was to keep the top officers happy. This included when to salute and when to give honors to those officers. Several times I went to firing ranges to shoot the 45 pistol. Even after getting 10 practice shots and than not changing the target I failed to hit the target enough times to pass. I was never given very much training on how to shoot the pistol but I was always given the responsibility of carrying the weapon. There was absolutely no training about what to do if we did have an intruder board the ship while it was at sea. Even small tactics like keeping all the entrances to the ship one way locked at night so it would at least slow them down were not even contemplated. I was given a shot gun and told to patrol a deck when in port but I was never given any training on when I could use it. When the ship was in port one night while I was on watch I noticed a native Indian approaching the ship in a canoe but lucky for me there was a Spanish speaking guard on the pier who shouted at the intruder to go away and he did(he was probably just curious about all the lights). That was the closest I got to see any action in the whole 20 years.
