    I did the same thing back in school. But I did it through High School until I got the Pinto my senior year :)

    The pay phones in my area were set up so that the caller could hear the other end but they could not here until you paid. So I'd call the folks, they'd answer, and know it was me when there was silence. :)

    The English transalation is consistent with the Greek in this case. There are two Greek words used. Latin changes this to one. The words in question are: malakos and arsenokoite. Do a web search on them, and you'll find more info than you probably want. :)

    lol, The (much longer) "Essay Concerning Human Understanding" has a more complete explanation of Locke's view.

    You're probably aware that the ideas proposed in the Declaration of Independence come straight from Locke. ...We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

    Jefferson (who was a deist, not a Christian) based his entire justification for the Declaration on the view (straight from Locke) that it was self evident that we are created beings, and that fact is the reason (justification) for our rights. It would be a shame if the whole experiment of democracy is based on a "poor argument". ;)

    Bottom line is philosopy is interested in where we came from. ID provides a philosophical explanation of where we came from, and in the discussion of origions it is appropriate to address it - as Locke did.

    If you are arguing that Intelligent Design comes from the standpoint of 17th Century science, then I strongly encourage you to use that as a selling point to everyone you come across.

    'Where we came from' is a central area of interest for philosophers. The above Locke qoute describes intelligent design, and how Locke concluded there was a Supreme being. So maybe it's not interesting to you, but it was to Locke, and to many others.

    My main objection to addressing Intelligent Design in a philosophy class is that it would be a waste of time. Why not discuss Hume, Locke, Kant, Heidegger, Plato, Aristotle.

    Better take Locke off your list.

    Yes, it's expensive, but in a lot of cases the end user is not paying for it. There are foundations and charities that will help pay the cost. And if the user goes to public school, they can probably get the local district to pay for it (The government by law has to facilitate the needs of anyone with a disability).

    Another note: a good Windows utility for completely blind users is Jaws. It is a speech software utility for Windows. (example: to navigate, the software verbally says: 'start', 'programs', accesories', etc. I saw a demonstraton of the software by a blind man, and he kicked ass (kinda like the hacker dude in Sneakers). Anyway, he could navigate way quicker using the keyboard than the typical sighted windows user could.

    One incorrect assumption about the blind is that they are blind. ;) There are a large spectrum of 'legally blind' people who do in fact have some usable vision. They won't be driving cars, but they can user computers. For such people, visual aids are helpful (magnification software, or really large resolution like 320x240).

    My four year old daughter is legally blind, but she is learning how to use a regular computer just fine. It's amazing to watch. In the mean time, I'm working on having the government buy a really large plasma display to 'facilitate' my daughter's learning environment. :)

    They take action against the people that offer the content. In the case of BT, that means you get busted for uploading.

    Not really. Indymedia is extremely liberal - the radical end, while Fox News leans conservative. A better comparison to indymedia from the right might be worldnetdaily or newsmax. Those sites are definitly to the right of Fox.

    I've sold a few books/tapes/etc on Amazon Marketplace. One issue I've seen is that the buyers rarely leave feedback (unless of course they have a negative experience). From my transactions on Ebay, I'd say 75%+ of the people leave feedback for transactions. For Amazon it's under 50%. I don't know why this is, as Amazon's feedback system seems more advanced than ebay's. Any ideas?

    If you truly lived in Idaho, you'd know that the 50K town you live in isn't small up here.

    Good point, I can narrow down the town to a list of 4 or so just with that info. Given that the person works at a 'huge corporation' - chances are good they're living in Meridian or Nampa.
