--I constantly hear the virtues of Linux espoused and many people seem to think it is in every way better than Windows. However, when they get confronted with shortcommings or concessions they had to make in their switch to Linux, they either downplay them, ignore them, or just claim it isn't the truth.--
Exactly,
When I can run Quickbooks Pro and DataCAD on Linux, I may change my mind. It's all about the applications. Linux or OSX just doesn't have all of what we need here at work. If Apple did, it would surely be just as costly as M$. The hardware alone costs more. Companies are going to go with the cheapest thing that works. Brands be damned.
--but I note that once again Tarkovsky has decided to mix colour and black and white footage for the sheer, dubious joy of doing so. I'm certain this is a mistake. Many films mix colour with black and white; to my knowledge, only three are successful (each in a different way - the three are "A Matter of Life and Death", "Pleasantville", and, ironically, "Andrei Rublyov"). All the others should stop fooling around and decide once and for all which they are to be.--
That reviewer is full of it. Did he not here of the Wizard of Oz? Oh, wait, just a second, the black and white part is what ruined it for me too.
I thought the 72 film was great. I just saw it on TMC. A little of it was comming from the Communist angle, but to be expected for it's time. I've not seen the new one, but don't expect it will have the same fascination as the 72 film did. I'm supprised that one got out of the Soviet Union at that time.
MOD this guy to a 6! He has it exacty right. There has to be a balance between Employee and Employer.
But, on second thought, all of the unions have been busted up here in the coal fields. Spend a 12 hour shift down in a coal mine and then come back and tell me how tough your white collar ($90,000 per year) job is. I have a white collar job with unrealistic deadlines but at least I'm warm and well fed. No one, white or blue collar has job security anymore. My one goal in life is to make enough money just to stay out of a nursing home when I get to where I can't work.
--After all, I am giving my employer my life. The least I could expect is to be treated fairly.--
Exactly! Lot's of the people in charge do not think of it that way. Take care of your people and they will take care of you.
--Companies need employees to make money. Employees sacrafice a great deal of control in the employee-employer realtionship. The least a company could do is provide employment fairness and comfort, and restraint on cracking the whip.--
A person needs a paid vacation now and the to recharge their batteries. Working like hell for a couple of years will break you down.
This may sound stupid but more companies ought to build loyal employees by telling the truth. If the employees have to suffer because of business, the employers ought to share in that. If they play fair and tell it like it is, there would be no need for unions. Unforunately, that is not the case.
--Ralsky agreed to this interview and the tour of his operation only if I promised not to print the address of his new home, which I found in Oakland County real estate records. --
Does anyone else like this info? Oakland County? Does anyone know if these are online? Here in Virgina, all court records are online. I don't know about realestate. It's county by county too.
Instead of using those free AOL CD's for coasters, maybe we could just mass snail mail them to him. Support your local post office, snail mail American.
It was meant to be FUNNY, but I hope you are right. I hope we aren't that stupid, but humanity has done some pretty stupid things in the past and also now. Hopefully the future won't get worse.
I've gotta chime in here. First if you've got the money you can appeal the case for many years. If you don't your screwed. Only through a class action suit do you have a chance. Ok, so you win that case 5 years later after the appeals. Your lawers are going to get most of the money. Just look at big tobacco. How long did that take? Who got what? Do the math.
I short, yes justice does cost money. If someone sues me and I win, I'm still out lawers costs and lost time. It's hard for the little man to absorb a few years in that battle.

What about their new Deep Purple machine that IBM is building to test nukes? Does it have true AI or is it just more smoke on the water when it comes alive?

Yea right. What was the benefit again? Higher Prices? Less bandwidth? Port Blocking?
Heck,
I just wish I could get decent broadband. The only thing available here is via satellite. If the govment is going to approve a monopoly at least make them provide their service to smaller markets too.
We have 3 of these at work. I wish they still made them. I would like to replace my old ball mouse at home of the same shape. Both are good for shooters and fast gun CAD.

True, but on a combined level the EU could too, even if let's say Britain didn't participate.

Yes,
and one thing will lead to the next. We may even create something smarter than humans that would try to terminate us.
Was that the Blue pill or the Red that I took today.
Repairing the Hubble was remotely interesting. Not too cost effective but interesting none the less.
We don't have cable either. Satellite is currently the only choice. I was thinking about how the latency would be. Would VPN even be possible?

Because work uses Windows. I take work home. The application that I need most is not on anything but Windows. Simple as that.
Someone Met-MOD this. It's not Offtopic. It's answers an earlier comment regarding selling the XboX at a loss.
My opinion is that it is not dumping because M$ is not selling lower than a PS2, but I'm not a lawyer. Maybe a lawyer could chime in here.
