    And what do you think happens when that 90 cents is deposited into the bank? 81 cents of additional loans is created, for a total of $1.71 floating around with only $1 to back it. Then the 81 cents is deposited, and another 72 cents in loans is created. Now you have $2.43 floating around.

    If you don't think banks create money out of thin air, you don't understand fractional reserve banking.

    The Bill of Rights is de facto more than that, even if no one wrote any language to make it clear. The Constitution dictates how legislators can change the Bill of Rights, giving those laws more weight than laws simply passed by Congress and signed by the president.

    Without the Bill of Rights, there was nothing in the Constitution to restrict the first Congress and Washington from passing laws limiting free speech or firearms.

    The entire selling point of going with Romneycare was to preserve the Democrat's control of Congress. It didn't work, but that was the real argument. Obama and the Democrats would rather stay in power than give us decent healthcare.

    Actually Ubuntu does this pretty regularly. That might just mean they make lots of bad decisions, though. Unity. Upstart. Wayland. Nautilus has been upgraded and subsequently regressed twice, I think. Et al.

  14. No, that is not the only reason. Much of what we consider to be "majority" or "minority" has more to do with the incidental demographics of those in power. Those power dynamics do not necessarily change just because the demographics do. q.v., whites in Africa.

    Probably not as bad as most apps. Crypto mining is all calculation and little I/O. You don't need to enter kernelspace. Since the fix's performance impact occurs during these context switches, one can assume crypto mining is largely unaffected.

    Because ransomware takes advantage of jurisdictional hurdles by operating from foreign countries. You can't kidnap someone who's in another country.

    Many places wouldn't even have the capability to ring you up or keep transaction records during a power outage. If the power grid in your area is pretty stable, it might not be worth setting up contingencies.
