    Where were you ? I for one was lurking on a very busy IRC channel before going to the University. Them someone posted `WWWWTTTFFFF!!!!!`, a few seconds later he said that a plane crashed in the building, and a minute later he started sharing (yeah, we then had to send it to other people manually ..) webcam snapshots. That was pretty much a social network at work.

    It's not because it's illegal where you live that it's illegal for everybody else. And the few legals torrents for you might well be illegal somewhere else.

    When I had a satellite TV package, the contract forced me to connect the sat box to the phone line. The wording was quite exact, so I wasn't adding the required DSL filter to prevent my DSL from disconnecting and to allow them to transfer information. As I was requesting them to come over and fix my DSL and my satellite (it was putting itself in a degraded no HD channels mode everytime it failed to transfer the info) and I was explicitly refusing to add a DSL filter to the line since it wasn't in the contract, they finally disabled the auto-degrading-if-no-contact and I removed that wire.

    But, yeah, at least some companies were really banking on this.

    It could be relatively easy to detect countermeasure being employed against the weapons and trigger them to explose mid-air before being destroyed.

    A nuke that gets shot down can explode by nuclear explosion before being destroyed by the enemy. Think about 50 000 nuclear explosions mid sky. I'm pretty sure that it would be pretty close to killing all life on earth (I know, some extremophiles would not be affected, whatever, humans would have a hard time.)

    With the 99$ dual link dvi adapter for 2560x1600.. And that doesn't make a majority of laptops. I guess this is a relatively small price vs the displays but anyway we are diverging from the original topic ;)

    I don't know of many laptops supporting 30 inchers at either 2560x1600 or 4k resolution...

    To 'upgrade'. You were already paying X$ for the previous PITA of drive included in the price so the reduction is 1-167/(300+X) (167 being the lowest price found on newegg in 30 secs.)

    We could estimate X being in the range 50-100, thus, a reduction of ~ 53 - 58 %

What would you say if they had provided a google map interface to launch nukes (click where you want it to detonate!) and a little kid found this nice little game and nuked the western half of the country ?     Well, you have that information from the graphs of the X% of frames under latency Y, but it's a lot of information to report not in a graphic form :) Most site I`ve seen using this `new` measurement display 'extracts' of frame rendering time vs time in harder locations, a graph plotting the frame rendering time (Y axis) vs the frame ID (X axis), which will provide you with the framerate, total number of frame renderer, average latency, maximum latency, etc, and the finally provide the analysis of this information with the graph I was talking of initially.

    Actually, the new part is that they are taking the 99th percentile of the ms/frame, which gives something like 'the worst fps you can expect 99% of the time' type of measure..

    Apple 'testing and validation' is a joke. Have you ever been through a validation on microsoft or sony ? That's something totally different, and beside, that 40k is not much compared to the amount you'll be paying for the developpers to work and fix things ups.

    Sadly, that's blatantly false; if your company is using skype and linked a phone number to the account or a virtual PBX in front, then you will certainly be interrupted exactly as with your normal phone. That also applies to any other systems allowing phone numbers to be plugged in..

    I got an old intel Q9850 so that my wife could play some games with me. The motherboard+cpu+8gb of ram cost me less than an hundred bucks, I threw in an old (nvidia gtx 260) video card and hard drive (500gb black edition) and that things is faster than it needs to be. When you are ready to accept something which is not top of the line, you can pay much less; not just by using AMD.

    Beside, I'm pretty sure that the captors used on those cameras are still much higher quality than what 25$ will get you.

    All my linuxes are terminals, and I use putty to access them. That works wonder for me, and I still find that the windows interface works better for this. Now, about games, I`d need linux to be as fast as the windows one, and at this time it would be borderlands 2 and the war z. What it means is that this will always be a moving target.. Then, there are all the tools for work that I woudl need.

    At this point, I really like linux for my servers, windows as my main workstation, and those small apple mini for my build machines for ios..
