One problem with an Idea like this is the artists may not feel obligated to make good music after the first several songs, because you have already payed your 12$ for that years music. Kinda similar to selling albums...
Or am I just not thinking of it as a 'scene', and treating it like a product? I don't think so, making music may be more of an art than many other professions, but artists have to eat too.
Honestly I could never see anyone making any money from linux exept when selling support. Or hardware. Reason I guess why IBM loves it. Isn't that what Redhats buissness model is? Support and hardware?
anonymous reader huh..... I'll bet he works at mypce.com.
still, it is pretty intresting... but then the people in the chairs look kind of ridiculous. Dont really like the colors either..... oh well. I want the one with two screens! make it reclinable, put a fridge next to it, add some bike pedlals (exercise), and youd never have to leave.......... or maybe not.
I've got a little story about why I really don't like sony. I bought a vaio laptop in september 2002. Almost exactly a year later I turned it on one day, plugged in my PCMCIA wireless card, and it didn't work. Windows seemed to detect it, but it was an 'unknown device'. Popped in my cdrom drive, same thing, ruled out the wireless card being damaged. put in a debian boot cd, wouldn't boot, ruled out windows. Clearly something was wrong with the PCMCIA slot. No bent pins or anything; and I never dropped it, the PCMCIA chip must have shorted out.
I checked the warrenty on the thing - crap, it had expired just a month ago. Looking through the documentation, praise the lord! I had bought a 300$ extended warenty! So I go down to Fries Electronics, where I bought it from, and they send it in. at least thier nice enough to give me a loaner laptop while its gone.
7 weeks later and Fries has my laptop. I go down and the Sony guys have only written "physical damage, not covered under the warenty". Great, 300 bucks down the drain. And how much are they charging for a repair? 900 freaking dollars!!! can a 600mhz celleron notebook motherboard really cost that much? I think not. Of course if I could get the board myself, I could solder it in, but I guess Sony makes profit off of repairing thier own products.....
I look at my warenty. Believe me, this should be covered. Sony won't even let the Fries dudes open it up so we can take a look inside. So I send the VAIO back, asking them to describe exactly how it is physically damaged. a month and a half later I get the call that its in. Guess what they've written.... "physical damage". I sent it back.
I intend for this to be as painful for them as possible. If they wanna try and rip me off, I'll make em pay. I'm sure I've cost them well over 900 bucks, sending this thing back and forth. This all started in december. If I get the laptop back and they havn't explained exactly how the chip itself is physically damaged, Ill take them to a small claims court. They wont show up. Anyway at least in the 4 months its been, Ive been using the Sony VAIO PCG-R505GL - a couple steps up from my model, its a 1.2 ghz pentium 3!!
I'm gonna be real carful when dealing with sony from now on, and I really can't recommend anyone here to ever get an extended warrenty from them, cause apparently its useless. Hmm anyway felt good to rant about that and get it out of my system.
Watch me eat my own words when the homeland security act turns the US into a 1984 police state, but I think that we would be perfectly happy to live in peace with the islamic cultures in the region. problem is I dont think the feeling is mutual....
my parents got one when they first came out. been unhappy customers ever since. imho they were awful peices of junk to begin with.
*ducks*
even besides my extreme bias aggainst apple, i do have to say the newer non-clam powerbooks are pretty damn nice. There isnt an x86 varient on the market that matches its value. think ill get one when this vaio weares out.
i cant stand using a mac for very long, not just cuz its slow on the internet, i cant stand the design. it looks like something a 5 year old came up with. i love my plain grey monitor and case.
i think its obvious that m$ is trying to make it so if you wanna be secure, u HAVE to use there media player. guess all security updates are gonna run through wmp now.
You used a single keyboard long enough for the keys to rub off? My average life expectancy is about 3 months.
Hey does anyone know if Winmx users (clearly the best filesharing client in existence) are being subpoenaed by the record industry?

Open source software supports terrorism just like P2P, but fortunatly we have the DMCA, RIAA, and MPAA to defend us against these injustices
