Once Conroy's filter is up and working it won't matter where it's hosted. If the government can pressure auDA to shut down the site, it can certainly add it to the national filter so that no one in Australia can visit it.
You seem to be claiming that the west is fueling things like space exploration while the (as you call them) "navel-contemplating planet co-squatters in the east" are doing nothing. Nothing could be further from the truth. Asia is where most of the worlds manufacturing occurs now - especially when it comes to high tech goods. More engineers and scientists are educated there, and they are well respected there (moreso than here).
And do you think the US would be looking at going to the moon again if China hadn't started it's own moon program?
Or you could see it as a method of getting money out of ordinary American taxpayers and into the hands of rich US shareholders. Like what's happening in Iraq with all the US contracts (like Haliburton).
A cinema in my town had the same problem with large groups of teenagers loitering at the entrance. Once they started playing nice classical music (not even loudly) they all dissappeared. I guess it was no longer a "cool" place to hang out any more. I think the makers of this device should have tried their first option, at least it's less iritating to customers.
Don't forget the Amiga CD-32. It had two bundled games, but few original games were developed for it. And it was expensive if I remember correctly. Amiga also went bankrupt shortly after.
It's a shame, because if it had played it's cards right I'm sure Amiga could have become a major console player like Sony.
It would be interesting to find out how much time he spent selling his sub-divisions or enforcing his taxes. If this took the equivalent of a full time job or a lot of time, he hasn't necessarily made any money back, just earned a small wage as well as loosing part of his initial investment in the sales.
How's this for science reporting then. According to the Australian News Paper (one of Australia's biggest newspapers) relativity was also disproven this morning. Apparently light does travel at different speeds in different directions after all and revlativity has been wrong all along.
From the Article:"Over the past 100 years, physicists have conducted experiments to test if the speed of light is constant. Professor Cahill says they obtained definitive results but ignored them because they feared they would be shouted down for questioning Einstein"
I live in Sydney, and every pub and club here has rows of poker machines. The influx of gambling services is quite a problem here, and is having a huge social cost. We probably have more gamling machines than anyone else in the world now. Not to mention two large casios in Sydney and Melbourne.
If the government really wanted to limit gambling it would target the gambling in clubs and casinos, however, I believe the real reason for the online gambling ban is more likely to be lobbying from the clubs and pubs (who make most of their money from pokie machines now).
Of course, all it means is that Australians put their credit card details into foreign internet gambling sites, and the government doesn's get any tax revenue from internet gambling at all.
Personally, I believe DOOM should have been higher on that list than 39th place. DOOM was the first game that got Amiga users to switch to PCs. It also started the 3D gaming revolution.
At my Uni at the time large groups of people used to sneak into the computer labs to play it on the network. It also ushered in 3D games into the mainstream. I think it's probably had the greatest impact of any game in the PC market, and should be higher than 39th place. 'Sydnicate' should have been up there too IMHO.
If this were, in fact, a provable, natural, biological mechanism, then, wouldn't we, as biological organisms, be falling prety to much the same effect?
No, the effect doens't apply to us. The butterflies are doing this only because the children born in their genetic situation are weaker, so those who don't interbreed propergate their genes better.
This is not the case for humans, we wouldn't and don't suffer from this effect, the children born to multiple human races are on average more healthy in fact. So comparing it to humans is incorrect.
Or, wait. No, no. What if- if there were like a- a swiss-army text editor that had, y'know, like everything in it. And like we could like add like a browser AND a bittorrent client! Now THAT would be cool....if only such a thing existed.
Because IE defaults to their portal site, MSN, which they want to make money from with advertising. Many users just use the default links.
The more widespread usage of firefox, the more likely people will use other portal sites like Google, Yahoo, etc.. Especially now that firefox is defaulting to Google
I don't really know much about processors, but from the speculation I've read on the new Xbox the processors are similar to the G5 processors used by Apple. Is that correct?
Which makes me wonder, would it be possible to mod the new Xbox's and get them to run OSX?
Yes, but how would you feel if you signed a 6 month contract (as many ISPs ask you to do here in Australia), and then find out you can't use VoIP? And the notice would be hidden deep in the contract somewhere?
I think it might be reasonable if they weren't allowed call themselves an ISP anymore - maybe having to call themselves a "Filtered ISP" or "Partial Internet Provider" as soon as they started limiting your access and internet usage.
Of course many telecoms would resist the public knowing what they are doing though.
Given the timing of this, I'd be inclined to think this has been done due to competition since the release of World of Warcraft.
I have played AO a fair bit, right from the start, however, I never felt I could make any progress if I didn't spend more than 3 hours on at a time. All the best gear in the game is constantly camped, and the latest expansion really only benifited high level characters who put imense amount of effort into the game.
I've now cancelled, and am enjoying WoW much more, with it's much more flexible play style and questing. Some of my friends have done the same. With WoW stealing many if not most of their players, I'm sure AO is doing this to keep their subscription levels up, but I doubt it's going to be enough.

Of course the downside is that you might have your head cut off.
Actually, fast food may be addictive too, according to this interesting article...

Could this be similar to what is happening now with China's huge dollar reserves?

This is a huge blow to PowerPC's credibility, though.
;-)
Maybe, but don't forget Amiga will probably still run on special PowerPCs
A word over 18770 characters that fits the requirements for my Windows password. ;-)

You mean 6 years ago, with Episode I. That was the main Star Wars Spoiler...
This blog (just a little down on the page) seems to contain the entire story line for Episode 3. The movie looks ok. Massive Spoiler though.
It only has a rating of 65%.
;-)
That's nothing. According to Task Manager on my PC, System Idle Process takes a wopping 98% processing power on my machine!
You obviously haven't heard his Gangster Rap Music then ;-)
