Oh, I agree with you there dude. I was just saying it's worse (for the user). I wasn't saying it was wrong. You're right though - it's Microsoft's system, and they can do what they want.
However, the HL2 model permanently blocks your Xbox from Xbox Live. Thereby permanently reducing a good portion of the functionality that you paid good money for. How many people will either need to buy another Xbox or quite Xbox live for good?
The Doom 3 version can be circumvented by a patch, or un-installing some software. At worst you can't play the game but the Computer is still fine, it's functionality is not permanently inhibited (as in the HL case). I think this is worse.
An ebook reader is a good idea. This way you can carry a virtual library of good books with you anywhere you go. Mobipocket seems alright for this, although many features are now only available on the pro version which isn't free anymore unfortunatley.
Another good application for the PocketPC is emulation. There are quiet a few good emulators if you're into playing classic games (eg. Apple IIe, C64, Spectrum, etc)
The funniest boast I ever heard was a guy at a computer game shop. I was looking at the games and this guy started talking to me. After chatting about games for a bit, he started telling me about how he had obtained the full Windows 2000 source code, made some changes, and compiled a special version that played his games better.
(hint: the aliens are a plot device... the story is about the search for truth/god/meaning )
And that's why the movie was such a great let down. It went from being an enthralling science fiction movie - to a new age folk spirituality film with feel good moments. A great let down.
Australia has an amazing reef (which i've seen as part of a tour many years ago and it was amazing), the Great Barrier Reef. It's the worlds largest reef, and can even be seen from space.
Unfortunately it is also under threat now due to pollution, although the Australian authorities are trying to preserve it.
Regardless of ethical laws, like in I,Robot - it would be very useful if a robots turn red when they're evil.
I know it was meant to signify the automatic update service or something like that - but it would still be a good feature. Then you can instantly see when a robot's become evil;-)
I also have some unplayed games on the shelf, but it would be an injustice if Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic was one of those games. Seriously, try it out!
Every now and then a game comes along that miles above the rest (especially for RPGs), like Fallout, the original Deus Ex or KOTOR. If you don't have much time, it's a good idea to not buy many games, and just the quality games when they come out. As the article says - be more discerning.
It's quite amazing what people were predicting back in the year 2000, and what a contrast is from now.
There's a particlarly interesting old news article here.My favorite part is: By 2004, IT professionals will interview employers so stringently that 40 per cent of employers will substantially miss recruitment goals
Actually, it would be more than that - since they seem to have been running at a loss for a while. According to their report they did become profitable late last year though. Maybe revise that estimate to over 11.9 billion.
I don't know if it's the same for other people here - but if I cut my caffeine intake for one or two days, I get giant headaches that feel like someone has inserted a sharp rusty knife in my head.
Seriously, huge headaches occur for several days if I cut my caffeine intake. So I really don't sleep any better - rather I can't sleep at all.
For some reason, whenever I read about massive layoffs, it reminds me of this article .

Nucular?? Is that you, George?

True. If VoIP spam became a reality, we'd wish we were back in these days of only having telemarketers to worry about.
Being called up with recorded messages at no or little cost to spammers could become quite intrusive.
Less eyelids too - once you remove the tape
Why? A cheap and easy solution was offered to the problem.
I have to agree - Arnie's (the Governator's ;) Sci-fi movies have actually been pretty good
Terminator 1 and 2,Total Recall and Sixth Day are all good sci-fi movies.

A car that runs on flower power?. Wouldn't that make the ultimate hippy car?
Especially as a VW combi van.

There's a very interesting article at space.com entitled 'What is a Moon?'.
According to wikipedia, if it orbits a planet, it's a moon - it's as simple as that. Many 10km diameter moons are listed for Jupiter.
I'd much rather live very well and die by say 70, than live in great misery (and full of hate and viciousness) till I am 90 like the French.
No - it'll just happen 20 years earlier. And the viciousness seems to have started already.

no kidding! I never heard of that. Seriously.
You're going to be sued now!
I guess an Arch-Villian who would be totally defeated by a set of stairs makes it hard writing a decent script.

There's a finacial report here.
But then aren't 90% of the remaining 10 papers crap too then?
