Bill is coming here to the University of Waterloo (in Ontario, Canada) and the thing was sold out soon after being announced.
I know there are a lot Linux advocates around here, I wonder what kind of questions they will be allowed to ask. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be all about "Become programmers, buy... I mean learn C# and forget about that open source crap".
Microsoft has not given the right for OO to use doc format... and they are NOT using doc format. They are using something has been reversed engineered from doc! It is not fully compatible with Office doc format... it is not the same thing.
Linux is their sworn enemy. Mac is their insurance policy when it comes to accusations of being a monopoly. They know that Mac will never take over more than the desktop share they have now... but Linux has a good chance of doing so because Linux is free (as in Freedom) and there are many thousands of developers giving freely of their time to it every day. Mac is still a closed, for-profit outfit (obviously), and hence will never take more market share... unless they drastically reduce their prices and/or offer up a x86 version of osx. Even then, it's questionable how far they can go as long as they stay closed-source.
Their website sucks major ass! After browsing around it, I am still no furthur in understanding what's so special about this flock or what it looks like or where I can download it. Seems like just some kind of scam to me. Moving along...
They can produce a great film of this superior quality while hollywood can only hope to achieve this with millions!
Ha ha, I just finished watching the movie (the non-subtitled version, as I am fluent in Finnish) and it was hilarious!
I run a completely fanless system. I used a fanless PSU, fanless CPU cooler (heat pipes), fanless graphics, fanless case. I run it with the case open. Not that expensive. Don't need water pumps because there is no water cooling involved. Just fanless parts with big heat sinks and pipes. I keep the air conditioning on in the house anyway so it is cool enough. In the winter, I just don't heat the computer room at all (the computers do it for me).
At most bittorrent sites you can leave comments at the bottom. I always check those to make sure that the torrent is as the title suggests. You can be sure somebody bitches in the comments if it's not.
Canada has generally been way more technologically advanced for over a decade than the States when it comes to Internet access. We Canadians should really be saying "You guys finally have broadband?" to you.
The Bush administrations new hurricane protection system involves a miles-wide chaining of christians holding hands and praying fervently for the winds to calm. They figure an ideally deployed "prayer wall" will be able to prevent at least a cat-4, possible cat-5 hurricane.
Who says the Bush administration doesn't support science?
Well, are SGI workstations available for low cost and have OS's geared toward the average user? You can't really compare modern Linux distributions running on cheap commodity x86 hardware to SGI workstations.
People keep forgetting that the Linux and Open Source has a philosophy attached that any commercial product will never have (if they intend to make big money).
Windows and Mac skills will come naturely, as they only require a subset of the skills acquired by using Linux.
I've met (and know) many Linux experts and Windows experts in my lifetime... and my conclusion is that the Linux experts are MUCH more proficient in problem solving and technical skills than any of the Windows experts.
You are comparing kids that learned to use Macs to kids who would learn to use Linux? OMG, that is funny. Macs are inherently "easy" to use. There is little to configure and little power over tweaking anything. Windows is much more configurable and tweakable. Linux is the ultimate in configuration and tweakability! Kids learning on Macs will end up being stupid when it comes to being technically minded, because they will just expect things to work, which is what Mac is good for. I'm saying, teach them Linux and you won't NEED to re-train them for Windows or Mac. In my opinion, a Linux expert is automatically MUCH MUCH more knowledgable about problem solving and computers than any Windows or Mac expert.
I remember when it was mostly anti-MS articles. These days they seem to have more pro-MS... which I base on the fact that MS is now one of their advertisers. Yes, slashdot sold out long ago.

You will mod this post to +5 Interesting
No, really, will this be the downfall of the mighty RIM? No more RIM jobs for UW students?
ACK!!! Bringing up VB completely discredits your post! bah!!
So you are saying that tweaks to their program interfaces are real innovation? I'm confused.
Plus, the writer of that articles seems to be some clueless-about-IT chick. /meh

The future is open.

This was also my first thought upon reading the headline. Pitty that it's just about a game.

... at least fix the "greater than 1%" to "less than 1%". By not doing so, you are not only a troll, but a god damned stupid one.
you're so funny.
chronically narcissistic. (It's always about you, isn't it)

... owned by Microsoft and friends.
Who says the Bush administration doesn't support science?
YES! This is exactly my point!
dump the proprietary unix hardware, get some commodity x86 hardware and install Linux / Apache.
