7. Can a group of spammers game the Credence algorithm by voting thumbs-up for each others' spam ?
No. The trustworthiness computation is designed to preclude such attacks.
8. What happens when a large number of spammers vote each others' spam up ? Can they fool the reputation system ?
No. Credence's reputation computation is similar to Google's PageRank, but is more general - every node computes a different rank based on its own votes. Reputation flows from a given good node along trust edges towards other nodes. Spammers can create tight cliques in which everyone votes on each others' spam, but the entire clique will be deemed untrustworthy. And if anyone in the spammer clique does a search, they will see each others' spam ranked high.
that one vote really counted. it seems as if it could be a combination of balls, humor, boredom, and/or stupidity that factored into that one voice keeping it from a nice round 400.
also seems to be a good way to get nerds to talk about you.
signatures on software and hardware to prevent any "un-authorized" use of them
just like playstation 1 and 2 and xbox? aren't there hardware based workarounds for their hardware based copy-protection? how long before i have to buy and install a modchip for my pc? oh, no, wait. i'll just not purchase hardware based "trused computing" solutions and let my wallet do the talking.
If you think the GPL would prevent someone from releasing Finux without following the provisions of the GPL, then what this theater group is doing is not fair use parody.
!
this may be true, but i would totally believe that people could make fun of star wars in a live performance setting and it would be entertaining enough for them to make money. i don't think a pseudo-finnish non-open-source linux knock-off would make even $50.
The question 'Is IP property?' is welled formed. The subject of the sentence is 'Intellectual Property'. Is it 'property' is what the writer wants to know about IP.
sometimes, jokes bomb. what do you want me to say? i paid the karmic price. i'm okay with that. i'll probably also lose a point or two pointing out that "welled formed" is not particularly well formed.
the answer lies within...

That is, until you need a ditch.
that was awesome. it was fun to read and insanely informative. it also made me question why i want to take my programming knowledge further. why? because it's fun to create something (that works!) out of nothing. it just feels like there is such a huge gap between what i know and what i want to know that i'll never catch up.
i'm looking for a finger pointing in the right direction so i can go in that direction, not to get all caught up with the finger.
i also don't want to end up in a situation where i need a ditch and can't operate a shovel, let alone a back-hoe.

strange that this article should pop up today when just last night, i was digging through the local barnes & nobles looking for a good python book and went home with nothing more than another work of fiction.
i've been meaning to get further into computer programming than the basic knowledge i already have, and this book seems worthy of a purchase. i have suffered through quite a few "intro" books that do little more than teach how to code math equations and silly text manipulations.
what i am really in need of is either a series of problems to be solved (with solutions, natch) or a good book suggestion that actually makes me want to write programs.
the how-to books are easy, but i tend to get bored with huge compilations of instructions pretty quickly. perhaps what i need is a good "why-to" book. any suggestions?
start -> control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components -> find internet explorer and uncheck it. clicl OK. i just ran a search for iexplore.exe on my system and luckily, it was not found. bonus.
adobe buy macromedia or somrthing like that this week?
pspersonalize is what you need to make them work.
also, check out the kxploit homebrew pack for a one stop solution to the emulators and homebrew games available.

great, so now the american cell phone pr0n companies are outsourcing to india...

but there's the whole matter of giving people yet another reason to not pay attention to the road.
well, you could always use both and eliminate the less effective solution.

and how come yoda's ghost doesn't appear as a strapping young [mulleted] green dude? maybe with a camaro?
lockpicking skill and an interest in computers, not so much.
