>What about the fact that they sometimes play records that are not only obscure but possibly over 60 years old?
copyright expires over time. This goes for books (Project Gutenberg makes use of this) and also goes for music. when it's old enough it becomes public domain. unfortunately music has changed a lot more than literature has, so not everyone will want to listen to XX year old music.
Where it really went wrong was when the web was started up.. I long for the days of archie, telnet, ftp ad gopher.. no netscape, ie, and all that..those were the days..
It's not illegal until you sell the tapes. One could buy the DVD, rent a DVD player and copy the DVD to VHS, all perfectly legal.. it's the same as putting your CDs on tape for use in your walkman or car.
Happened outside the states too.. KPN, dutch telecommunications business type thingy (allied with Qwest) has trademarked a certain shade of green. no advertisements by other companies (including non-telco companies) can be mostly in that colour.
Nah.. a piece of crap can be useful, ask any farmer. Pieces of crap regularly get used in constructive ways: Dump lots of pieces of crap in a forest and watch it grow. On behalf of all pieces of crap: please don't insult them by linking pieces of crap tosomething unconstructive as mattel
Since when does the USA take their treaties into account? After all.. they are the policemen of the world, those who would protect us from the big bad commies, self-appointed lords of democracy. On one hand, they urge every country to ratify the no-nuclear-weapons-testing document.. but guess who is absent on that list. The US is one of the most hypocritical nations I know. (not necessarily all people in it, before you start flaming me for that)
In what way do children get hurt by knowing gay rights? they get hurt if they do not get told about homsexuality, let alone if they're being brought up thinking homosexuality is some weird disease, or something filthy. Shielding your children from pornography.. fine.. I can understand that, even though I do not agree. As for your point about christian decency: I want children to grow up with decency, not necessarily christian. It wouldn't be the first kid to grow up thinking it is abnormal, filthy and/or just plain sick because he/she turns out to be homosexual or *gasp* bisexual. Think about it. Why do you love someone? Ideally this would be for personality. And can someone of the same sexe as you not have a beautiful personality?
hrmpf.. typical.. the guy elbows someone out of their rightful domainname, and elbows is what his name translates to from dutch (and quite possibly german)
I am sure even a perfect diet wouldn't stop all cases of organ transplantation. There's still accidents (no diet can fix those) and hereditary (sp?) problems. Organ transplants will still be necessary for a long time. It is however true that the 'western' diet isn't the healthiest of diets, but saying diet is a miracle cure? I don't think so. diets can help your health in a major way (don't believe me? live on only french fries for a year, add mayonaise to taste), but they are not cures.
well.. I'll tell you one thing that's bad about windows' GUI : Its heavy use of doubleclick. Doubleclicking is not a very logical operation.. Just put someone who never used a computer behind a mouse, and have him start a game, with a link on the desktop. first he'll have to get used to the mouse. but before he finds out doubleclick could take a while.
I dont think language really should be a problem. only 1 change: give each country 3 TLDs. 1 commercial, 1 for non-profit orgs, 1 general (or maybe another division could be better. I wouldn't know about that) You want to cater for the whole world, thenb you either have an english page, or have your page in several languages. If you want to keep working on a national basis, get your own country's commercial TLD. I however don't think the purpose should necessarily be clear from the URL. It's just an address, there to make it easier to remember. If you need an URL, you look it up somewhere, usually a searchengine. It's exactly the same as a normal address. If you need to find a baker, do you blindly walk over to bakerstreet in hopes of finding one, or do you look in the phonebook/yellow pages/whatever? Finally.. yes, there is a reason for TLDs only being 3 characters: people are lazy..sucks is still decently fast to type,.isnotfair is quite a bit longer. The shorter your name, the cooler.
The same can be done with snailmail. I type a letter, mail it from somewhere close to where you live. same thing. What I am wondering is how the situation in europe and other parts of the world is. Anyone care to enlighten me?
patents can cause strange stuff: one of the stranger ones: Kevlar, a very strong aramid fiber. quite a bit stronger in tensile strength than steel. There are 2 manufacturers at the moment (or up to not so long ago). 1 has the patent on kevlar. However, the process for the creation of kevlar involves some pretty hefty chemicals only allowed in laboratory use, not for large-scale production process. The second company has patented an alternative process for Kevlar. Now they both produce the stuff. They decided the best way was to cooperate, for neither could produce kevlar without the other ones consent.

How can it work WITH a _national_ testing system.. what is needed is an INTERNATIONAL system. And a place to get certified in europe and asia.
