They could, but I don't think they could use any of the tools/dev kit that they got in the licensing deal with sony. The DMCA would come into play possibly.
Odd. Both of you seem to assume that everyone against these new powers are liberals or raving Moore types.
Myself, I actually support most of what Bush has done. But, I still don't see where they need new powers. We need to make better use of the powers they already had, and Bush seems to be doing so.
You don't have to be a liberal to be wary of giving new powers to the government.
Back to the issue at hand, I don't think logging what books everyone reads is a good idea. But, I think that anyone using something like a public library computer should not expect thier activities to be completely private. They're using a public terminal.
Well they're kind of an odd case given the high cost of the games. When they had the distinction of being the only home system in it's class, a $200 price tag for a game could be workable. Nowadays it makes no sense.
And in our time we don't have kings sending over forces to keep us in line. What's your point? That these times are somehow different enough that common sense does not apply? There have always been threats. These are different threats, but that doesn't change the wisdom of the statemant by ol' Ben.
To feed an industry that is based on the notion that obosolete hardware is somehow less useful than when it was new. If you and I just bought everything once, they would not be as rich. So we must be enticed to junk still working goods for new ones.
On the bright side, it's a golden age for ebay vultures like myself...
This isn't a national headline story without the DDR non-issue. They take a not important aspect of the story and make the headline with it in order to capture peoples attention. Then they mention in passing that it wasn't the games fault.
Porfessional what? I said there would be a few, but I know don't many creative firms around here that are that flush with cash. Many seem to be laying off or shutting down. In other locales, these may sell like hotcakes.
oh, and, you dolt!
Nice capitalization there too, while were sniping at each other for no good reason.
The IT business is quite fond of eating its young.
In other news, check out the interview with Boucher linked on that page. At least he seems to actually be thinking about these things, instead of just following orders.
Somewhere in The Salmon of Doubt Adams writes about how the book (as a Dirk Gently novel) doesn't work, but may work as a hitchhiker story. He seems to have been considering doing such a book at some point in the future.
As far as someone else writing one goes, I don't think it is likely to work. You would really need someone who really thinks like him in order to get the style right. I may be wrong, but I don't think that style is something you can force out of someone.

Of course, none of that excuses all the piracy.

Still works better and in more places than digital? Yes.
*(in the US that is, YMMV)Maybe you or I care about quality, but we are a minority. There's a lot of generic people out there who will pay to see just about anything.
You wouldn't guess that from reading /. though.

It's standard reporting trickery.I don't think there is an expletive available to expess my contempt for these fact skewers.
Journalism is a myth. You get paid for right of ways there? Here they just take it.
Why did people object to the fiber? Compared to HV lines, it's a tiny piece of cabling.
Out of curiosity, where is this?
No such rules in SC or anywhere around. (except for things like subsidised(sp?) housing)oh, and, you dolt!

Maybe, but all those things will still work without activex. I very rarely run across a site that won't work with mozilla.
Java apps still take twice the ram and run slower than native apps.
It seems to "scale" (bloat to match the hardware) as much as every other category of program does.Definition: A bunch of mindless jerks who were first against the wall when the revolution came.

More like apporaching the speed of a 14.4 modem on a bad day. I've never got anything even close to 56k speed on GSM.

And, yes, MS sales can probably hook you up with it.
You forgot the pigeons! And the "white pixel" collection.
