He actually attempts to tie piracy with child molesters. All for a few more bux in his pocket. That's just sick.
Apparantly he hasn't had to deal with the effects of such abuse, or he just has no soul. Otherwise he wouldn't be trying to profit off of such pain. Feh.
Hundreds at the same time? Maybe in the largest schools, but in most schools, do we really need that many people surfing at once? Do most primary schools have that many computers in thier labs? Not every class is going to need to be online very often.
The teachers should be cherry-picking materials for most day to day usage. There really isn't a need to have kids surfing the web unless their doing a research project, which isn't every day.
One problem seems to be the assumption that having a computer at every desk, full time, is a good idea for schools. The schools should have them where they are needed, in certain rooms and labs.
Of course, there are going to be exceptions. (large city schools, but those have much bigger problems than bandwidth)
Why does a school even need a T1? Anything more than a decent broadband connection is overkill. They certainly don't need wireless.
Teachers actually worked for years before Al created the internet. This is just another thing to spend money on to make us feel better about our dieing education system. I'd rather see them have enough rooms and teachers and no broadband at all if need be. It is handy for research and other occasional projets, but is not a necessity for every class hour.
The money could be put to much better use, but nobody wants to hear that.
The thing that bugs me is, what if the lawmakers are convinced of these statements and make stupid laws? Like the DMCA. They created a law to protect rights that didn't exist in the first place.
Thing is, we don't even need EULAs. The software industry worked just fine before they became common use. Piracy is illegial regardless.
And either way I don't consider some text that comes up after the transcation of buying the software has occured to be a real contract.
You've already paid the money, for a license inside a box that you can't read until after you bought it? I don't think so.
Bah, anyway we're preaching to the choir here, so I'll end this rant.
Same thing here, except they advertise it as a feature. It's basic plus one HBO. It's not broken out, but it's likely not a bad deal price-wise. The problem is that the TV signal often sucks, espically on the HBO channel. The cables modems do work better than some apts though, no people mcguyvering the wiring to get free cable.
Everyone makes mistakes. If I make a mistake, it's my fault, not my customers for not catching it sooner.
Also, I am not part of any bank. They don't pay my salary. I am an external entity. And if they do not meet my expectations, I at least expect them to not punish me for it.
Why are you trying so hard to have an argument here? I agree with you that the author would probably be fine if he upgraded to better apps. I did that several posts back.
My beef is with your "anyone who has a problem must not be doing it right. You're clueless, they're clueless, everyone but me is clueless." attitude.
Then you bring up this obscure example of a program. Then argue with me over how it works when I have a working copy right here. (BTW, maybe the problems have something to do with running it in DOS window?)
And when did *I* criticize your apps? I was responding to an responce to the author.
We somewhat agree, yet you insist on making this some kind of intelligence contest.
Did you stop and think that maybe he is just using old versions of distros (many in here have noted some old versions of Kde have issues with this, for example). Hey it is a poor bug report, but just because it works for you or me does not mean that it really is working for him and he's just an idiot.
Because it would be another example of incorrect words being pulled into the language just because people could not be bothered to use actual correct English.
Why would use use the old DOS 5 editor in XP? There are notepad replacements out there if you need them.
Either way, I just went and actually fired up edit, and looked to see what the commands were. No funky commands. You seem to have not verified your info, I have. But what does edit have to do with anything anyway. The only reason it came in is that someone was reaching for some example of windows sucking. What does that prove? The guy isn't trying to use windows.
And why are you all on about windows anyway? You do realize that these key combinatyions are not a MS invention and have been around on the Mac since the beginning, right? The same complaint also comes from Mac users, are they just Apple whiners?
My whole point have nothing to do with windows or not windows. You continue to prove my point. You keep jumping through flaming hoops to try to prove that there is nothing wrong with your pet software and this guy complaining must be an idiot. Maybe that's true, but what purpose does that serve? You don't have to take every complaint about your favorite software personally.
If you want to run around calling people who disagree with you clueless, go right ahead. But, don't expect to be taken seriously if you don't have the backup.
CLECs get the shaft

Becoming a CLEC?

ILECs routinely have lapses (i'm tellin' all yall it's sabotage!) in service quality with CLEC customers. "Paperwork errors" are standard procedure. I'm not saying don't do it, but know what you're dealing with.
It doesn't even matter, expecting a old DOS program to act like a windows one is like expecting vi to conform to X standards, it's silly. It was a terrible example.
Either way, why not just suggest that the guy use Kde or Gnome apps strictly, that would have been far more constructive than flaming him.
Your example isn't even correct. Edit (a old DOS program) uses the MS standard keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste. No, it does not integrate with the windows clipboard because it's, (drumroll) a DOS program.
And the guy admits to user error, his whole complaint is that it is too hard to learn.
Just because the apps you use are conformant, doesn't mean that the apps on his distro are conformant.
You are taking the tried and true, "It works for me, so you must be an idiot" path. Why? If 99% of the posters as you say, think there's an issue, doesn't that seem like a good indicator of something that should be improved?
The mere existence of the patents is enough to keep products off the market. And then you get the surprise patents that pop up after a company get bought out by an "IP" management group (land sharks).
Senator Cher?? Couldn't be worse than a lot of the bozos in there.
Doesn't his widow now server in his stead? That's what I thought anyway.
Thanks!

I wonder if sepearate connections and a vpn-style setup wouldn't be more efficient.
MMmmmm.. pagemakerrrr..... (drool)

The money could be put to much better use, but nobody wants to hear that. You may want to check the link, the screen allows actual stereo images without glasses.

In other areas of contract law (insurance, loans) there are restrictions on what can be in the contract.
It seems to me that we need to either invalidate EULAs outright, or regulate them like we do insurance contracts. No onerous porvisions enforced.Yet I must have it.
Now I don't know anyone who can't tell the difference between a computer and a record, but I'm not a lawyer.
I'm another saying they have to get it 100% perfect, but that it's 100% their problem if they don't. Don't penalise anyone else for your error.

I would disagree. Yes you should double check, but doing thier job is 100% thier responsibility.

copy is.... Control+C
Clue anyone?
