I've known educators who were fired to make room in the budget for the a new satellite TV system.
I've seen schools complain that they don't have enough money for teachers while handing out laptops to students (that don't survive the year).
I've seen the same schools literally dump older computers in the garbage.
I don't have the clear answer, but the problem is clear. The people in charge are more interested in what will keep them in charge than what will help the teachers teach.
I would say the user is broken, not the system. Idiots like this guy will always find ways to hose themselves, we should not redesign our world around them.
if it can be used to bring down an opressive system. These people seem to think that the FCC is an opressive system. There are probably better ways to get your message out than this, but it's a protest and protests are often silly.
I wonder why it's not more prevalent than it is on cds, given the important layer is less protected than in an LD. (but the LD is probably a lot more sensitive to manufacturing conditions, consider how they're made.)
I don't know about commodore, but I've seen MC-10 emulators that came with utilities to read in tapes recorded to wav files. Maybe the same exists for c64.
You are right about the iTunes, I have to concede that. It is illegal to break the agreement. (note the popular burn-rip secnario is also illegaly breaking the DRM)
But the box of windows I already paid for before seeing any license. The transaction has already happened, how do they get to modify it after the fact? Just beacuse it's SOP doesn't mean it is or should be legal.
Hey i'm not saying that anyone should be pirating music here. I'm just responding to the contention that these people who found a way to disable the lock of the files they purchased are going to be the downfall of Apple.
I've done the same thing, and it seems to work ok for me too. But remember, that even then you're still violating the license that everyone is on about. Not that it matters in my opinion.
And just where is this license I purchased? I don't see any contracts laying around, but I do have this here music file.
And just where on the checkout page or "reciept" does it say anything like, "1 license for song by band ----$0.99"? It doesn't.
where in any of the advertising does it say, "Download your license for CoolBand500's new alubm here!"
It's like software, have you seen any boxes in the store that say License for windows 2000? No, There's a box of windows that you buy before you ever see this license.
(not meaning to be anti Apple, or pro pirate cheapskate. But this idea that because it's digital that the transaction is any different is a load of crap. IMHO, that is.)
NO, you purchased a file. Which you can do what you want with, short of violating copyright. This is still a case where they (EULA writers) are trying to fudge around first sale with hair splitting semantics.
Now the DMCA still applies and probably makes this illegal.
No, your issue IS paying for software. Since you seem to object to any commercial software. Who are you to say that closed source software companies have no right to exist. (which is basicly what your position amounts to)

... in comfort and style!
*THEY* are trying to convince us to take the tinfoil hats off so they can begin the reprogramming! Don't do it!!!!
Bloody peasant!
Dont forget the whole Wing Commander series. Darn good for something that would run on my old 10mhz 286.
Once again, journalism is a myth.

or blame even...
I don't balme Apple as much, they seem to be doing the minimum to deal with them.

He'll have an aneurism!
Mainly because it is yet another ploy to get you to tag yourself so they can track you and file you in yet another database.
Hilarous!
Anyone?? Bueller??? ...

What's good for the stockholders (who are mostly playing the system, not investing) != good for company.

Nothing stopping you from using structure in BASIC but your own mind.

How said anything about hacking songs without paying?
