I enjoyed the article and for the most part it was well-written. The thing that bothers me most was the fact that it refered multiple times to "cheap hardware." To me, cheap hardware is general percieved as shoddy. While I understand the writter's intention, it is often far more effective to say "less exspensive."
Sorry to nitpick, but use of language is very important to people's perception.
I have to say, all that damn light at night effects me a great deal. There's nothing worse than trying to sneak into a window in a well-lit neighborhood.
The study also found that Democrats were far more reliant than Republicans on deep-pocketed givers in the 2002 election cycle, and were much less successful than the GOP at raising money from donors giving small amounts. The findings were released today at an event launching the Center's comprehensive study of the effects of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, commonly called the McCain-Feingold law.
Actually, news.com.com is the correct address. Cnet has a bunch of domains under the com.com moniker. Try going to new.com. You'll see that you are redireted to new.com.com.
Pardon my ignorance here, I don't know alot about having to digitally sign executables and what not so please don't flame me. Does this process require modification to the bootloader or kernel in any manner? If so, wouldn't that kind of screw Microsoft because (under the GPL) they would then be forced to release their code changes publicly and essentially give us more information needed to circumvent their copyright protection?
I'm all for Microsoft releasing a linux version, but I can understand that if the above is the case, then it wouldn't be good for their platform, and frankly that wouldn't be fair to them. (Please don't waste our time responding that you don't care if it hurts them. Unless you are a communist, the economics require that they protect their interests. Deal with it.)
We're looking forward to seeing how Valve can top this licensing masterpiece... suggestions?
Hmmmmm maybe a licensed MP5! Last time i checked (and I did) it was hard to get a license for a class 3 firearm in my county. Not to mention finding a pre-ban mp5... If valve could help me with licensing... W00T!!!!
If you have a point, I don't get it. Yes it sucks that sometimes a sever gets bogged down, but if you put the content up, you obviously hoped people would read it. I can't think of a time when someone at/. INTENTIONALLY took aim at a server to/. it. We are simply curious, we're not a bunch of F!*$ing locusts! We are not mindless minions of CmdrTaco chomping at the bit to take down servers. If you put up a page, you expect traffic. Plain and simple. Again, if you want to limit who sees it, try making it private.
If I had something interesting enough on a webpage to drive massive amounts of traffic to it, I'd be happy, pround even, not whinny.
The site has this message up that says, "Due to the people at slashdot.org linking to this site without asking the owners or the hosters, asciipr0n.com is offline until further notice. Maybe you guys should start mirroring the sites you link to...
Excuse me, but I thought the point of putting up a webpage was so people could find it and view it. If you don't want it viewed without permission, shouldn't you password protect it? What is the differnce between slashdot handing out the link versus say... Google? Maybe they should have a disclamer on all their pages, "If you are reading this, please stop and send a message to the our webmaster and CC: our hosters to make sure you have permission. If you do not agree to these terms, please close this page now and flush your cache."
Oh my God... I had the same idea! Did yours come to you in a dream of a burning president? Though I don't think I've put the parts together right. All I keep getting is a cool new alternative to the telephone. I can't wait to take out a patent before Jeff Bozo at Amazon.com beats me to it!
I'm more excited about the "absence of friction" part... At last my dream of building a perpetual motion machine can be realized. Take that thermodynamics!
not to be an ass... but did you read the article? It plainly states that they are based on g4 processors. The motherboards are spare parts from gigabit ethernet g4s... They support g4's upto (I believe) 1400 MHZ.
P.S. Sorry... I use mac and apple interchangibly. I use a lot of different platforms (including mac), but when I think of apple, I think of mac. The only pieces of apple software *I've* ever used outside of a mac are WebObjects on Solaris and Quicktime on a PC. Again, sorry for the confusion.
Sorry to nitpick, but use of language is very important to people's perception.
Oh yeah and the poor animals....
Death to nitelights!
A quick search of Ebay will get you the parts you need...
The fund raising statistics from 2002 would suggest otherwise

On second thought, after reading the earlier discussion, Developers: "Quick 'n Dirty" vs. "Correct and Proper"?, take your time...

Did anybody else notice the roll of paper towels next to the computer? And to think, he let his own mother type on that keyboard.
I'm so glad i wasn't the only one that picked up on that!!! Incentivize WTF? Otherwise, not a bad read.

Fat Tony wants to know where to send the horse's head....
Ooops! Redundant post... my bad. Please don't hurt me ModGods!!
WTF!?!?
Yes, I to was losing my faith in scientology before I read this post! Go psuedo-science/religion!

Your attempt at spelling pedantic was not appreciated.

Yes, I hear they have started their shock and awe campaign.
Great idea! I bet they could really sell that to China since they used to do similar things there. Too bad it doesn't scale past 10,000!
