    Our Nobel Peace Prize President dropped 26,000 bombs (real bombs, not little hand grenades) last year on various brown people (even though we are not at war).
    This effort by ISIS is a pittance in comparison.
    BTW, has anyone considered that it might be preferable to address their grievances rather than just bomb them?

    According to this article,
    Antibiotics are readily available over the counter at most pharmacies leading to widespread overuse.
    He also cited poor public health practices, unsanitary living conditions, and increasing use of antibiotics for growth promotion in poultry as factors that contribute to the diminishing powers of antibiotics in India. With continued use of the drugs or their misuse, bacteria evolve into stronger forms that are resistant to antibiotics.

    Industrial meat production uses more than 10 times the amount of antibiotics as human use.
    Human antibiotic use for the common cold, etc. is a problem but not nearly as bad as farm animal use.

    Industrial meat farmers in the US (and other countries) use literally tons of antibiotics to improve "yields". This leads to resistant strains of bacteria which are passed to humans. Use in chickens and pigs is particularly problematic because of the large amount of antibiotics and the widespread distribution. Most chicken you buy in the store is contaminated with drug resistant bacteria.
    Just say no to antibiotic treated animals.

    Why is it the government's or society's responsibility to support those that refuse to support themselves?

    The issue isn't people "refusing" to support themselves.
    The issue is not having enough jobs so that a person who wants to support him/herself can get a job.

    It is the government's and society's responsibility to support those who cannot find a job because there are no jobs.

    Pruitt has been suing the EPA to prevent clean air regulations. He should be able to cripple the EPA.

    I understand that you may be skeptical of a single article but this research goes back many years.

    Was in the Philippines and needed a local phone number. Bought a "Cloudphone" for a little less than US$30.
    Definitely not top of the line but works just fine:
    - Android
    - Dual SIM
    - Micro SD card slot
    - 2 megapixel rear camera (yes, that's all of 2 megapixels)
    - front camera (don't know the resolution but it works)
    - Access to Play store, all the Google apps, etc.
    - Screen seems cheap
    It's a bit slow at times but amazing that it works at all

    You're right. This wasn't a "prediction". The car's radar is able to see two cars ahead and saw that traffic was stopped so it put the brakes on and alerted the driver. Impressive performance but not psychic.

    That's just the problem with fossil fuels. Nobody costs all the external effects... health damage, climate damage, etc. If these were properly accounted for fossil fuels would be a lot more expensive. Just because they are not priced into the cost of fossil fuels doesn't mean that we don't suffer the costs. And yes, 7% of world GDP is the number that the IMF came up with (and it's probably low).

    I think you're missing the point of research. While it seems obvious to you that this won't be practical, you really need to test things out in the real world and not just dismiss them after superficial analysis. The research could point to methods to make it cheaper and more efficient.
    Research is always expensive but knowledge isn't cheap.

    Yes, the cost of this road is very high. So was the cost of all early solar panels. Solar panels have come down in cost to the point where they are now cheaper than any other source of electricity, except wind. Batteries are the same. Early battery storage was very expensive. Now the cost has come down to the point where hard headed utilities are installing battery peaking storage because it is cheap.
    This road is expensive but it is a prototype research project. It may or may not turn out to be cost effective in the long run but it should be tested.
    If you're worried about public subsidies, you might start with the $ 5.3 trillion a year that fossil fuels receive.

    Yes, we should thank Amazon for allowing workers to sleep in tents. They may freeze but they won't starve!
    Corporations are great and always have the health and well being of their employees as top priority.
    A temporary job where you freeze at night is much better than no job at all. We thank Amazon for providing great temporary jobs. This makes Amazon great again.

  24. One time I was waiting at a gate for a plane (after having gone through the security checkpoint) and there were TSA agents lurking at the gate. They told me they wanted to do a "secondary security check". I let them go through my stuff (Did I have a choice?).
    In retrospect, they were probably not really interested in security. I'm just an average white guy so no racial profiling going on.

    Stop lights in the Philippines have large LED readouts next to them which count down the time to turn.
    Red LEDs at a red light count down the time until it turns green. Green LEDs at a green light count down the time until it turns red.
    Seems to work well. People behave themselves and don't generally do stupid things.
