It isn't uncommon to lose power for about a week with storms in this area. We loose power for about 9 hours probably once a year or so and for a week about once every 10 years. We all manage to survive. You can't stop the storms, so you deal with it. I don't see these solar storms as any worse and they are MUCH less frequent.
I always hear about solar flares/storms etc. and the damage they can/will cause, but I have never once been affected by them. Seems like much ado about nothing.
Computers made in the last 5 or so years are darn fast, and unless you are a hard core gamer, will be plenty fast for the next 5-10 years. I just built my father a modern computer in the hopes he won't need a new one for about 10 years.
Most cheap "lasers" you buy are not true lasers, running on LEDs.
How are LED lasers not true lasers?
Something my physics teacher in high school told me, that was a long time ago though. I don't claim to know exactly how a laser works, although I have a decent understanding. His point was the cheap little "lasers" you buy, wherever, weren't true lasers, but basically just focused LED light, not built the same way a "true" laser is.
Most cheap "lasers" you buy are not true lasers, running on LEDs. I wonder if this is different, or a "true" laser. I also wonder why it would need a focus lens to stay focused for ~100 ft (as per video from their web site). IMHO a quality laser shouldn't have a problem keeping focus for that short distance.
Overreaction? Yes. But probably the prudent move. Kim Jong-un is like a teenage that just got the keys to his dads Porsche. He is on a thrill ride, but he will be reigned in sooner or later. If he stays on this path he will drive the Porsche right into a tree.
HDDVD was an inferior product, and DRM isn't about the media, you can encode DRM in/on anything. That is like saying you don't like the new bridge because of the graffiti on it. Not sure how you can say Bluray is more expensive, it is cheap now, way more than HDDVD ever was. It was more expensive at first because it was more advanced.
Agreed, Sony home audio is not the best quality, but it is what it is, at it's price point.
I really don't get all the vitriol aimed at Sony over the last decade or so. I have sold their TVs and other electronic equipment, owned their Playstations, I can think of far worse companies. And Blue ray is a very good media.
I saw a TV program that showed electrodes connected to one person. That person was able to move an avatar around a 3D environment. Sure doesn't seem like they have come very far...
Is if I can't even get FB to like my posts...
A cow at that speed...

OK Bill...
That might have records of god creating earth 6,000 years ago...

I do it every night, heat is off for summer and all electricity is off over night. I like to sleep for about 9 hours.

No, I built it with Windows 7

You paid for Windows?
This will be forgotten in a couple days.
That their smart phone is likely running on Linux?
It is going to be one royal pain in the ass, repair optical cable undersea.

Count Duckula. One of the best little, short lived, gem cartoons of the era.

What do you mean there is no Robot Heaven?
See dead people?
Missouri is already ranked 47th in education, I guess they are shooting for 50th...

The most recognition I ever saw for this was that Neo used them.
I knew I read /. for a reason!
