Apparently
616 is actually the number of the beast. Bet all those Slayer fans feel pretty stupid, getting tats with the ancient equivilent of a typo on them:P
Well you must have thought it newsworthy, otherwise why did you read down this far to post your comment! Most people just skip the irrelevent stories without reading all the comments:P
At the moment, in australia, if a game is deemed unsuitable for an MA15+ rating, it is banned from sale. Period. Even for adults. At least films have a R18+ classification so that adults can se it but not children. If they brought in an R rating for games then at least adults would get to buy the games (or an uncensored version).
The Fall issue of Invention & Technology has an excellent article on the rise and (not so) fall of vacuum tube technology. It also mentions the possible use in the future of nanotriodes: a vacuum tube-like structure a millionth of a millimeter across. So there ya go, ENIAC on a chip may be possible, complete with 'tubes:)
I think everyone is missing the point here. We have to convince the clueless millions that they do need the latest amd/intel to browse the web. These people are subsidising the really powerful hardware for the rest of us who do need it. Yes I do need 100fps in UT2003 thank you very much:)
I imagine that certain magazines with a strong enough community could set up a volunteer effort, but the copyright issue is tricky. Future contracts could deal with this i suppose, but I guess that doesn't help with the back issues.
I would like to see modern computer magazines provide their back issues online. I mean surely they don't derive income from issues over 1-2 years old.
It would certainly clear some room in my cupboard, 'cause one day my life may depend on knowing which brand of 386 won the editors choice in APCmag.
What ever happened to that embedded/modular version of windows that was supposed to be in development? I haven't heard anything about it since it was mentioned in the anti-trust case. If it's still around, it sounds like they have done it, but can't be bothered/don't want to make it available.
Absolutely! The OS makers have much more at their disposal to make this happen (source, developers etc.)
I guess they don't see the monetry benefit of expending resources on it, when the majority of users don't have a clue (or probably care for that matter).
Try LitePC. They have a product called 98lite which allows selective install all non necessary os components, as well as 4 pre-defined install sizes. Their micro option can install win98 in under 50MB. It also allows you to replace the gui with the win95 interface for even more speed.
They are currently working on win2K-XP version, but work is understanably slow.
Everone knows they were manufactured, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they were an important band. They were still very influential whether you like it or not. The whole point was to not give a shit and laugh at the establishment. Lets face it, they gave the kids what they wanted.
It will connect to cddb, rip and name the files for you. What more could you ask for:)
The lastest version (1.5 beta) has Ogg Vorbis encoding, and best of all it's open source!
He has an update pack to 2007/02/16.

The whole article comes up on a single page now. Maybe they put up a low bandwidth version?

we always pronounce it Bee-ta (in australia)

If the corps want this to work as a concept, the games actually have to be good.

Did anyone else besides me read this and think that the diagram near Automated Architecture looked like building a house in The Sims?

BenQ used to be known as Acer.

Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.
