I diagree. Java is far to bloated and complicated. I've been using it since it first came out and I balk at the vast array of libraries you need to use or choose between to get anything done. I feel really sorry for anyone coming to it for the first time.
Personally I use Ruby (on Rails) these days for web development: convention over configuration is, imo, a much more important advance in the art than object-orientation was.

Oh and then there's the Sun, owned by one of the BBC's competitiors (Sky), that just complains because their boss tells them to.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. People are anti-American because they don't like the way the arrogant and imperialistic way in which the USA behaves, doubly so under George "the moron" Bush.

Good lord, if you're an example of the product of the American Education system then God help us.
Anti-American means they don't like you. And there are more people in the world than just those living in the US.
Swindon, a town in Wiltshire, tried this about 10 years ago. Mondex was the name of the scheme: people could pay for buses and goods in shops using cards they pre-charged with cash. It failed for one reason: people saw no reason to pay for cash (you had to pay for a Mondex card).
Bollocks! I posted that under my real name! You think us Apple zealots are crazy, just wait until a Linux zealot sees me criticise their GUIs! my karma is doomed!
They'd better be careful though or I'll pull out the whole GNU/Linux thing. Torvalds is a karma whore on a scale undreamt of by most/. posters (don't give credit to the GNU for writing the vast majority of the OS but I named the kernel after myself so you'd damn well better make sure I get the credit).
*wipes froth from mouth* oh I am sorry, don't know what came over me.
Perhaps he means the freedom to run Linux and Windows as opposed to being able to run Linux and Windows and OSX?
Or perhaps he believes that by supporting Microsoft he's supporting a company committed to freedom? You know, like renaming French Fries to Freedom Fries had the terrorists (not to mention the French) quaking in their boots!
And inspite of all those developers giving their time for free the Linux GUI's still suck and the only good design you'll see has been stolen from elsewhere.
Wow what an astonishingly ill-informed post. If your last point is true why isn't there a problem with Linux? The reason Windows crashes is not the hardware: it's because a) it's badly written and b) MS for some reason maintain decades of backwards compatibility.
Re your first point (people dont switch because they like OSX) well you're wrong: I switched because I like OSX.
That's almost right: an important factor is that they put good quality components in the Macs not just any old cheap crud that the wholeseller was selling cheap today (which is what must PC makers do).
Fighting in a dungeon (Pale Pass). Decide to run from the skellies. Run out the dungeon. "Enemies nearby" so I cant use fast travel to get home.
Run across the outdoor zone. "Enemies nearby" so I still cant use fast travel to get home.
Run through a long tunnel. "Enemies nearby" so I STILL cant use fast travel to get home.
So I stand and wait for 5 minutes for these enemies to appear. Nothing. Still get the "enemies nearby" message.
So I run to the nearest city, past the guards at the gates, go and pray in the chapel then head to my bed in the Fighters' Guild. "You cannot rest when enemies are nearby" !!!!
So now I am basicallly screwed. I can't travel fast because enemies are permanently nearby and I can't gain new levels because I can't rest because these "enemies are nearby".
LOL. The funny thing is that the US were providing a lot of aid to the UK, in particular, long before they officially joined the war. One example was that they took over garrisoning Iceland which freed up British forces, ditto convoy escort in the western half of the Atlantic.
I know this is/. but you could at least check your facts: the speech about lending your neighbour a fire-hose is pretty famous.

What rot. 10.4, for example, added some major functionality e.g. Dashboard. You don't see anything like that out of a major release of Windows.

I suspect it was always going to be in Leopard and Apple simply brought it forward as a beta.
Did you post without pre-viewing? Because it makes no sense.
Also, VPC runs stuff slowly (relatively speaking) so being able to boot to WinDOHs! and run more demanding programs directly is a much better idea.
