Allright, but don't forget to tell de next guy that "we" fixed the garbage disposal....what if the next guy says "hey this apartment sucks!, but the garbage disposal works real well":-)
The code they open source *now* may be useless, but the trend is interesting, not long ago open source was "evil", "viral", "comunist", "unamerican"...and now they are doing open source?..maybe it's not that bad after all?
My best office is at home, why? it has all a human being needs, a bathroom, a kitchen, a place to rest, all of them very close to my workstation so if i'm a bit stuck on a problem i can take 5 steps get in the kitchen get a cup of coffee and watch some tv for some minutes..then go back to work, so whenever i think of a great office i think it must look like (and feel like) a home.
Because it's not an instant change, its a process not an event. It'll take a while until comparable (OSS) applications can compite with the Windows versions, we have OpenOffice but if you "must" run MS Office you can use Wine for example, and then you are no longer "locked-in" Windows, so actually the existence of these facilities (Cross Over Office, Wine..) does not continue the "lock-in" but in fact help to end it.
Anything?...of course, at least is the avidence that someone whanted to "say" something, same as if that person writes anything..A digital picture is just a way to express some meaning, just like any other technology device (a pencil for instance..), what is being said could be a lie but the same technology is available to everyone so the lier could be unveiled easily thanks to the same technology that allows him to lie easily.
I did ask this "are there some software constructs that are appropriate for one type of industry but would be undesirable for the other?", for instance: if you want to hire somebody to work in a car assembly line you'd probably prefer a strong man over a cute young lady, and the opposite would be true if you wanted that person to talk to angry customers....so the question is: is there such a strong difference in chosing software systems depending on the type of bussiness?
I like that "expensive human being" argument, probably most of the time that human being is the same, cheaper if she does some stupid task, more expensive if she can take care of a customer phone call since some technological device is taking care of the stupid tasks. Thus, the software for service oriented bussinesses should add value to the workers? That would explain the importance of good GUIs for instance..
Well i typed the name of the company i work for and i got a link in the first page of yahoo results but nothing on the first 10 result pages from google, so we could say your test and my test are just "anecdotal"...
I find it surprising too, in fact is the first time i click that google logo, and minutes after that a friend asked me if google was hacked or something, then he went on and clicked the logo (first time he does that too)....those fractals must have strange powers..
1. Have a lot of people building new software companies 2. Wait a couple of years 3. Buy the best companies after they've done the hard work..and of course...
From data you can extract "information", take a lot of those "going to lunch" mails and you can see what groups of people lunch together and at what time....
I watched this video (flash) just a few days ago EPIC and now this?...hmmm

I could click on the nomachine.com link, but why should I have to? Maybe because that's the whole point of the web...you know...hyperlinks and all..?

It makes perfect sense....
..and of course...
1. Have a lot of people building new software companies
2. Wait a couple of years
3. Buy the best companies after they've done the hard work
4. Profit!!
hummm...there sure is a lot of code in Linux, some of it must be SCO's?
