How much of this before people start to view Apple not so much as the hip, cool company but rather as the controlling, evil company?
This will happen right around the same time the NFL starts to lose marketshare for keeping on scumbags like Michael Vick.
The public really doesn't give a crap about stuff like this. They may show a bit of interest and even agree with you but when it comes down to it they're really not that interested. And those that agree with you do it on the same level as smokers who know that they're killing themselves with their habit but don't really care to change their ways.
And before somebody serves me on "propulsion system will be better" you have no basis for this.
You're wrong. The great trend of technology is that they will be better. *YOU* have no basis for saying they won't be since, by far, technology continues to make every means of transport more advanced.
Be a cynic all you want. No one really cares. But to say that something of this nature has no basis in reality is not a logical conclusion from what you can reach out and experience for yourself today.
Meditation should cause you to become aware of your environment and not let the mind dwell on other issues. It's about focusing on "being here now." What you're doing is spacing out. They're not the same thing.
If privacy is a big concern for you my answer will probably keep you away from FS: I just like to see what people are up to in their daily lives. The places that are important to them.
No, what brought me here initially is Four Square. I have to agree with a lot of people who think that Four Square is mostly pointless but I also see a possitive side to the app. So, as an active user of Four Square I wouldn't say that I'm just around here complaining about people complaining. It's more of an issue with people claiming that they have no real interest in social networking but appear to go out of their way to slight it.
I can understand where you come from with irc and usenet but those really are different beasts. I would be more likely to compare Facebook with BBSing since most BBSs (atleast in my area) seemed to be made of a group of users who mostly knew each other in real life but used the boards as an easy way to get information out in an efficient way. Not to mention all the dumb little games on Facebook seem to be a reintroduction of BBS doors, which was always a good time for a little healthy competition.
And while Facebook is like BBSing to me it serves the same purpose to me; an area to see what my school friends and former co-workers are up to and have fast contact to my current friends without having to make 50 phone calls. It's easier than e-mail and more flexible.
To me there is a difference between being jaded and indifferent. The question is which one are you, really?
If you're jaded, to me, it means that you were interested at one point and you've lost touch with that interest. The indifferent person never cared in the first place and simply doesn't give a damn.
I choose to skip over the stuff I think is pointless. To bother to sit around and debate over something you have no interest in makes me wonder about how much free time someone has. Sorry but I'm ust being honest about it.
People are pretty much waiting for a replacement to current social networking.
Maybe around here but not the population in general. Facebook has been on a steep curve of growth over the past year. More and more people are eating it up.
And as far as what people around here want? Don't make any bets on it. I've been here a long time and if I put money down on what the future of most technology would be from the majority around here I would be broke today. I've been hearing for years about replacements for Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, Sony, so on and so on... None of it has ever happened. I think the only time I ever read one of these predictions and said it wouldn't happen and turned out to be wrong was with WoW vs. EQ. I'm still shocked to this day but I'm confident in that the number of times I've said that Slashdot was wrong on an issue I've been right.
Facebook will go away in time, sure, but I don't think social networking is going to make a big change in structure.
That's what I was thinking but it's now cool to be jaded on Slashdot. Acting like you're too old school to give a crap about anything used by the social networking folks is now hip.
Most of what's done today is a waste of computing power. Anyway...
First off, it's a simple test. A proving ground of sorts. It's also a good place for a programmer to cut his teeth on a lot of concept that he can relate to with other programmers since it is so wide spread.
Sorry but you don't know this store, obviously. While there are a number of the coffee house crowd it normally does have a flow to the checkout line as well.
And yet, Encyclopedia Britannica is considered more credible than Wikipedia, even when it's been shown that it's far more inaccurate, not to mention outdated.
yet, EB is a perfectly fine cite to use in your Wikipedia article. Thus Wikipedia can never be considered more reliable than EB.
Not to say that EB is the word of God but I find the source normally more reliable than those who cite the source. Of course, there are also no absolutes in this case.
Maybe Microsoft is interested in finding out who uses it, how and why and likewise from the non-users. I don't understand what the big stir is about a company using it's own product and looking for employee feedback.
I go half and half with you and Lithdren on this one:
I have heard scientists come out and make wide and absolute proclamations that really don't seem to be based on much more than known observances. There is just so much we don't really know yet.
At the same time, the evening news, that runs 4 hours, seems to be too busy reporting on the latest celebrity and sport star gossip to give any scientific press release more than 30 seconds. So much is lost in this sound bite society.
I do wonder about where the church mentions that the universe is limitless. I've never heard this.
Actually, I think in the tradition of Dr. Who, he wants to beat some other old concepts to death through tedious remake after remake. Each of them getting a little worse and a bit more tired. Hollywood seems to do this well as did Dr. Who. I wonder if he's going to go for one of the roles in the next Trek film?
The person who really has to worry about riding around 15 people isn't going to be looking at a Prius in the first place.
The person who's buying the vehicle is likely to have the same number of passengers regardless of the fuel economy so that's kind of a moot point.

It's not all men. It's just that the women who are hardcore into pinball look like men.

Namaste :)

That's all fine and well but do you stop at every article that you have no interest in and explain yourself? If not, why do it here?

They have replaced most of that space. Yes. It's an active store with a BN located about 6 miles away.
The Borders in my area seem to be doing rather well.
Funny you mention it. I was considering the Nook too. Although it is nice that you can load Border's app to it from what I've read.

I've seen a lot of Islamic materials (The Koran, etc.) out there that, AFAIK, is out of copyright and has thousands of seeders.
Next thing you'll tell me is that there is no secret Black Mesa research facility.
I see my cover-up is effective! Mwahahahaha!
G-Man

Why is this in Idle?
