At what point do we turn to the marketing overlords...
I don't know. At what point do you?
Every person is going to see this question differently. If you really have that much of a problem with who is marketing something to you just write to them and say "I love your product but your advertising method gives me the chills. I won't be buying from you again until you amend your ways." Then: STICK TO IT! Boycotts don't work unless companies lose profits because of it.
If enough people agree and follow your lead then you're in a good place. Otherwise you're SOL.
As far as their right? Sure they do. If you don't like it try the boycott, otherwise don't come out of your house for fear of being marketed to.
But there will be no winner. The people producing the software already know that. At least I would like to think that they do. I hope they're not as hung up as most Slashdot users who continue to insist that their OS/Phone/Browser/IDE is the best and is the leader in the market.
The market is fluid and we should all be thankful for that even if it bursts our fanboy bubbles.
Can you name a few? This isn't a troll but rather a real question. I'm interested in seeing who else has what in the way of phones. While recent progress in the American market makes me hopeful, I can't help but feel that there is so much more that could be done.
If record labels weren't required he would have never signed a contract.
We can sit here all day and make one line cheap shots like that if we wanted to or we can be honest enough to admit that record labels do provide a service even if it's price point is a high one. The fact that Reznor built up a customer base with the help of a label means that he really isn't a good example of a profitable artist without the help of traditional channels. I'm certainly not saying that it can't be done but what I am saying is that Reznor is not a good example.
I knew of tons of indie bands that should have made it just as far as NIN/Reznor but never had the backing it took to make their mark. Today ith the internet and digital distribution some of these bands would have done much better but I'm really skeptical if any of them would have done as well as they would have if they could have landed a label contract prior to today's digital model.
Reznor made his customer base with the help of a record lable. I'm waiting to see what, if any, really significant artists arise 100% from pure digital distribution.
Not that I care if what I'm listening to sold 500k copies or 25 but I'm just saying that to act like Reznor is a popular artist of his own virtues is false.
Goodwill took an old 17 inch CRT from me just a few months ago, no questions asked. It still had some life to it but not much. The guy didn't seem to care either way.
I didn't use the word at all. I was quoting your post to keep things in context. Again, good to see you can stay on topic. You're the troll here, not me.
"if you were going to put a tribute to the great math and science minds on your body forever, which ones would you choose?"
Has the underlying motivation of "look at how unique I am"
No it doesn't. That's crazy talk.
To me it means "if you were going to put a tribute to the great math and science minds on your body forever, which ones would you choose?"
There's no need to make assumptions there.
I agree with other posters that if you don't know what you want it's not the right time to consider a tattoo but you're reading way too much into this. It sounds more to me that you're trying to project your stereotype of what tattoo works means to you.
I agree that if you don't know what you want to get you just shouldn't be seriously entertaining the idea of getting a tattoo. That said...
I've never regretted any of my tattoo work. Well, I sometimes think I should have made one bigger. As for explaining them? I'll simply tell the tykes that I like them. Beyond that I don't think I should have to fit your ideals on what's exceptable.
No, they do not make me tougher. I never expected that. They do not make me stick out as an individual. I got them for myself. They can't even be seen by those around me in normal circumstances. They "enhance" my existence because I wanted them and I'm happy with them. You've never done anything that you like because it makes you happy? Tattoos are not permanent. Where does this myth come from?
Now, how did giving a lecture on something that anyone here already knows possibly enhance your existence? Why such the rant against tattoo work?
No no no no... That's Democrat and Republican alike.
Any real liberal or conservative wouldn't associate themselves with their mainstream party substitutes. The people in both of those parties are only the husks of what use to make each of them great at some point in our history.
This sounds like the defense of "No, your honor, she didn't say no. By that time she was already passed out."
You know, it's so bullshit that people have to defend themselves against any little asshat who thinks he has the right to do something simply because he can. I know it's a fact of modern society (that people are total assholes, that is) but it doesn't excuse the person who violated the rights of another in any way.
If you're going to be a member of our civilization, you're going to live by our collective rules. Don't like that? You have two choices: try to bend them, pray you don't get caught and accept your punishment if you get caught or get the fuck out. Seems pretty simple to me.

I was thinking more along the lines of a free iPhone app.
A pickle got a million fans because it was funny and it was free. This is a much different case.
Optical zoom only please. None of that digial zoom bullshit.

Reznor doesn't matter.
Reznor made his customer base with the help of a record lable. I'm waiting to see what, if any, really significant artists arise 100% from pure digital distribution.

I never said anything about forever. Nice of you to stay on topic.
The fact is that you're making a broad assumption that is likely incorrect. Thanks for playing and have a nice day.

Some people are just never satisfied, I guess.
Er. Acceptable.

I always thought it was "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!"
Sorry, the echo tag doesn't seem to be working.

Admittedly, I haven't used Windows 7 on a touch-based device,
In that case, how do you go about rightously making such wide statements about it?
I've used 7 a bit on a HP TouchSmart machine and I really don't know what you're getting at about it being a non-touch OS. I found nothing lacking.
As far as I'm concerned? Batman isn't a good film. So I guess there are a lot of "stinkers" out there in the upper range of the game too....
But hey, you're entitled to your opinion on the matter. It doesn't mean anything to me when I go to spend my entertainment dollar.
At the same time The Blair Witch Project cost (reportedly) 40,000 to shoot.
Movies can be done on a budget. They just normally aren't.
Oddly enough, a follow up of Jupiter impact was just reported Thursday.
But if only selected portions are shown with the intention of embarrassing someone, it seems like a either libel or harassment
If this were the case we could yank all mainstream news off of the air.
this is about Lieberman
No. It's about anyone that votes for it and the guy who signs it, if he does.
He didn't break in to anything.
This sounds like the defense of "No, your honor, she didn't say no. By that time she was already passed out."

You have distorted view of reality if you think the US is the only nation that builds cruise missles.
