  1. Loss Misunderstandings on U.S. PS3 Game Prices Staked At $59.99 · · Score: 4, Interesting

It's only a loss during the launch phase. Sony has always made a slight profit from hardware sales from the psx to the ps2 after that point. They've stated this many many times but I guess the consoles sold at a loss mantra will stay forever (xbox never helped with this either--losing like a billion per year for the entire division since it's creation).

  2. How Would you implement this on Sony Reader Now Available · · Score: 1

So many people are against DRM but I want to see a realistic proposal by you guys. How will you get the support from media creaters, authors, and publishers to obtain their work for your device without DRM? Everyone wants some protection for their work. Six devices to be honest isn't that bad at all. Consider a text book. You could technically copy it but who would bother copying a 500 page text (and with the binding on these, who would do it fully). Six painless copies of such large texts are imo pretty decent.

Because you can just assume with any such old or non graphically intensive game will run with the most weak graphic processing setups. Any modern game that requires a graphic card would crawl with any integrated chip due to lack of dedicated video memory which is both an order of magnitude faster then system ram and not shared.

Starcraft and warcraft 3 (with a sufficiently beefy processor and mobo, ie anything in the last 2 years) will run on any video card with even the most minute 2d and 3d acceleration capabilities. I'm fairly sure you need zero acceleration for starcraft as it's 2d.

I wouldn't be surprised if my current machine (athlon 64 3800+ with 2 gigs of ddr500) could play both with a old 8mb pci card. Starcraft will run flawlessly but warcraft might give trouble.

My precious japanese rpg's (the major ones) which were usually concentrated on one system per generation (SNES, PSX, PS2) seems to be divided into two and maybe three consoles this time around. Microsoft bought out Hironobu's or payed them a truckload of cash to be 360 exclusives and sony also has talented studio's (level 5, square enix also have at least some talent left) in their wing.

I miss the time I could go on with only one console. Unless the 360 folds and Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey either suck or come out of the ps3 I can't seem myself without it.

Well, primarily analysts were expecting a sellout of the meager 100k units being supplied their at launch.

More importantly however your point is flawed, startup costs like factory tooling/building are far greater then cost per unit without that built in. Sony's already spent billions before even making one ps3 unit, that is where most of the money went.

You will get far closer to profitability if you keep on churning units at the max capacity of the factory to regain the cost of building it.

I don't know of any console or electronic that doesn't ship with basic cables that work with all devices. I work at an electronics store, whether we are talking about high end dvd players, HD tvs, or any gaming console to day. They will support the lowest common denominator and thats all out of the box.

If raiding 3-5 hours a day for a few days a week was sufficient to be a decent team player, I'd be all up for it. After my last guild broke up (after attendance waned and our server broke 3x per day or lagged us to hell while raiding) I was reluctant to join another raiding guild because it made you fucking tired. I wasn't a big fan of farming bosses we've killed ages ago but I loved going into new instances and figuring out how to beat the next boss even if it took many deaths.

What I got tired of was collecting god damn new resist equipment for every new dungeon with still limited bagspace along with new potions. I already need two sets of gear just to be productive as a damaging warrior and a tank. So just for MC i used three sets of gear near the end, then i had to get nature gear, then some shadow, and now frost. This after blizzard said they'd stop going the resist route over a year ago. Which of course turned out to be false (yeah lets see you do all of aq with no nature resist gear).

Ridiculous amounts of required farming for mats, + ridiculous amount of equipment sets required, + ridiculous server uptime and performance (monstrous amounts of lag during prime raid time) just made me want to quit.

New guilds killing ragnaros with less then 38-40 people in blue-epic would take quite some skill.

You could also take 40 people to BRD or Scarlet Monastary pre-caps. Does that make then 40 man instances too?

The difference is, 40 man new instances actually require 40 people to finish. I'd like to see you take 25 people to naxx or aq today and see how far they get.

Yeah because the ps3 was released ten years after the ps2.... What they mean is that the console will be in production for that long. For example, the psone was just bought out of production last year. That's pretty close to ten years if it hasn't passed it.

The ps2 will be a ten year system if they can still sell it for the next 5ish years. Which they probably can due to strong brand name appeal and the expense of the new system. (ps2's still outsell xbox360's week by week now).
