Everyone i know doesn't just use the front power button, we turn the powersupply of our ps2 off as well (switch on the back of the console). The red light that is on while the ps2 is on standby makes me feel odd.
Not to mention that a ton of ps2's have broken and are replacements. I'll bet there is nowhere near the 100million shipped plugged in and in standbye mode.
Also i get about 10-11 cents per kwh post taxes =P. So that's have the cost the grandparent used.
It was essentially an uber 2d platform with a 3dchip added in the last minute. The cell, rsx, and memory type were conceived a long time ago to work together. Neither the cell nor the graphics chip is a last minute addon to compete with a brand new foe (as psx was with it's new 3d capability).
Also sony is hard at work at dev kits which will make programming with the cell much easier. How well they succeed in making these dev kits will be the primary factor in how programming for the beast goes.
Try playing homebrew games on your Sega, Nintendo, or even xbox systems without cracking something? Give people the option to rip off developers and sony sales and they will. In droves...thats just human nature to most of the population.
Thats my biggest worry, most tv's come with only one hdmi port. If you're big on hd and have mroe then on device in the future (consoles, set tops, etc.) you're (dodges grammar nazis this time) gonna be in a pickle!
Movie studios have pledged to not enable the ICT (image constraint) flag in either hd-dvds or blu-ray until 2010 or later. Surprisingly even they realized that screwing over a majority of the hd set owners wouldn't be good for their bottomline.
Yet, modded insightful proving that ratings in these threads mean crap. You got the ps3 pricing wrong. Xbox360 will suddenly lose 40 games from it's library, and wii is weak in graphics (even nintendo says so).
Both hd-dvd and blu-ray use a 405 nm laser which is in the violet/blueish part of the spectrum. I have no idea where you got the rest of your information from.
The blu-ray drive itself just reads bits from a disc. It doesn't matter where the bits come from to the decoders, hd-dvd, blu-ray, or someone's hard drive. Mpeg4 and other similiar codecs shouldn't have any technical implementation issues.
Theres a good chance that the compressionists of the dvd's decided they didn't need anyhting higher then mpeg2 since blu-ray's capacity and bandwidth were much greater then dvd's and could show 1080p well enough without the newer codecs.
What people don't realize is that which slight modifications in design the pentium 90 could have run @ 100 watts should they have wanted to shoot the voltage up in order to squeeze more mhz out of it.
The k8 by amd and the prescott can run at much lower voltages as shown with motherboards that support both overclocking and underclocking. I think that coming so close to the limits of silicon has caused cpu makers to go in a different direction. The beefier cpu's from intel and amd from the same processor line will often require better heatsinks. What some overclockers have noticed is that the lower end cpu's from the same line can be pushed as high as those with slight voltage increases (sometimes without). The difference between a athlon 3500+ and a 4200+ is often the heatsink and factory multiplier settings. While it's not always true and higher processors often come from a better yield but more often then not the opposite is being proven true.
There wasn't a major market for overclockers in the p90 era and i don't think any motherboard supported overvolting but there were people who managed to get over 200% overclocks with those guys which showed they had much more headroom then modern processors which are at the limits of sensible cooling design.
Most consoles have revisions and major revisions like the latest psone that was produced and the slimline ps2. Even my old genesis console had drastic changes. I'm assuming the much smaller systems with chipsize reductions and chipnumber reductions (like the ps2) have caused power consumption to decrease.
I had someone sending spam from among my dedicated servers and ISP's didn't try to freaking extort me with a magical bill 100x what i normally ay like godaddy. They asked me to investigate and remove the offenders which was done. Problem solved.
I just recently started playing half-life two and it's freaken amazing. The gameplay possibilities with that engine is pretty awesome. The water hazard among other portions of the game were simply amazing. It was refreshing to play such an immersive, realistic, and fun game. Then came ravenholme which was almost like survival horror games and gameplay was improved through the use of the gravity gun. Nothing like smashing zombies by picking up ordinary stuff on the ground.
I've been to dissapointed as of late with numerous highly rated titles (God of war for the ps2, that game is freaken awful, nice graphics but it gets old watching your avatar take 2-3 seconds on the same cool move 200 times a level).
It means that it's no longer popular amongst investors. Investors depend on stock analysts and we know how bright they are. MS can continually make obscene profit margins in their core and they'll still be unpopular for things like the xbox.
For the amount of work it takes to create a modern album and the advertising cost that goes along with it. Paying that much is just fine for me. But the amount of money artists get for what they are losing (the copyrights to their songs) is completely bullshit. The record company can make money off of a hit for life and pay the artists jack shit. That 27 cents less that weird all gets per song probably leaves him with only a few cents per song on itunes.
The blame on this goes to the artists. 50% of the fault of record companies as they are now are the artists. The other 50% is the fault of consumers for supporting such organizations with their continual patronizations. The record company is a money making organization. Their job is to maximize profits, artists know or should fucking know wth they are signing into.
I don't care if the sob's are milked dry, they are the ones that supported these guys.
THe marriage thing will no longer work at all. Neither will the getting sponsored part if you've already moved in here illegally. During the later half the clinton administration, a new bill was added that barred illegal immigrants from legalizing themselves should they have spent any time here illegaly. If ti was fairly short, under a month or so they would be barred for a year or so. The next level they'd be barred from staying here for ten years.
Gaining illegal entry from foreign countries via airport is also quite difficult.
The games are vastly different anyway. Going from FF7 to FF10 and unless you know the names of the games, you'd never know that they were by the same company.
The story line in nine was quite weak and I had a hard time getting attached to any of the characters. Plus the character design was weak, the main 16 year old princess looked like she was 9.
The game play was it's redeeming factor but I loved the flexibility of the materia system much more.
The PS3 is a "meta format," Kutaragi has stated in previous interviews. This means that the PlayStation 3 platform can exist in various hardware configurations, as long as its meets certain base specifications and can run the same basic games. The two configurations that will be available at launch provide a perfect example.
Source: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/711/711688p1.html So it seems as though all consoles will have the same base stats for all games. I'll be the only upgradeable stuff will be superficial like a bit more ram for linux apps or more hard drive space.
He also says that all playstations 3's will come with a minimum of what was posted in E3 so games will run on all hardware equally. However it should be easily upgradeable should people want to use it for other functions.
I'll be satisfied if there is software out there that will make it a decent and cheap htpc alternative in 2 years when prices will be more affordable and i think about actually buying it.
They don't seem to make too many quality games inhouse that Nintendo seems to make. Although, I wouldnt' exactly call halo quality, it doesn't seem to be that much better then decent pc fps's.

The psone and ps2 would show otherwise. Sony has always pushed for all kinds of third party support. Variety is guranteed on the ps3.
Both hd-dvd and blu-ray use a 405 nm laser which is in the violet/blueish part of the spectrum. I have no idea where you got the rest of your information from.
Wiki that mentions hd-dvd's laser.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD-DVD
THe difference between the hd-dvd and blu-ray is not the laser itself but the structure of the disc. Blu-ray allows for more space per layer.
The blu-ray drive itself just reads bits from a disc. It doesn't matter where the bits come from to the decoders, hd-dvd, blu-ray, or someone's hard drive. Mpeg4 and other similiar codecs shouldn't have any technical implementation issues.

What exactly did rockstar do?
It means that it's no longer popular amongst investors. Investors depend on stock analysts and we know how bright they are. MS can continually make obscene profit margins in their core and they'll still be unpopular for things like the xbox.
The lead programmers and artists are mostly still at blizzard according to that link. Only the one of the lead designers left for guild wars/ncsoft.
They can auto generate this article every 2-3 months because square and blizzard will always ban farmers.

You just said a whole shitload of nothing.
