Sounds like something that would make a nice extension in Firefox. I know there's a Dictionary one where you can highlight a word and get definitions, or the highlight/copy one... but this could be a nice highlight -> google search or something.
The iPod battery can be replaced for $50. It's widely known. And any battery will die over time - you have to accept that. Of course, you can buy whatever player you like, I just hope people don't base a purchase on thinking another device's battery is expensive to replace.
Last I checked this wasn't actually an "Ask Slashdot" article, it was just a post about other people giving up on the internet. The end questions were merely a poll of ideas.
Now if this were "hey slashdot, I have spyware, how to you guys remove it? lol kthxbye!!!11!!" Then I would see your valid troll point. Otherwise, you just did not RTFA.
Well that is great and all... but that is what's known as an "alternative" to the other process. I was testing the other process. If I wanted to go download it, I would have. It's not like everyone will be like "hey, I wonder if it's a pain in IE... maybe I should just download it."
I installed it from Windows Update, but it did nothing. At all (except that my updates completed). The tool did absolutely nothing. ActiveX controls are "blocked" by IE in SP2 - the little yellow information bar appeared at the top saying I may need to install blah blah blah. So I allowed that and then had to go back and it actually prompted to install the control.
Um... I've run WU plenty of times... I went to the link in the article where it says "check my pc for infection"... that's where the popup came from and torture ensued from there.
So I installed this via Windows Update a little while ago today... Here's what I had to do just now to scan:
1. Install via Windows Update 2. Go to tool website 3. Go to website again in IE, cause it doesn't like firefox 4. Temporarily allow popups from SP2 5. Go to website again to allow the popup for the scan tool to open 6. Accept the license agreement 7. Go to website again after I accepted agreement 8. Open the tool and have IE block the ActiveX control 9. Allow the ActiveX control 10. Go to website AGAIN to install the ActiveX control 11. Allow it to scan and tell me nothing is infected...
I sure hope it wasn't this difficult for anyone else. Did I miss something? I thought it was going to be a program on my PC to run and scan, but I can't find it.
I don't know if I'm extremely disappointed or not surprised at all... I wouldn't so much call this a "re-hashed" version, as I would a "re-branded" one. I used Giant AntiSpyware before the acquisition and I can say that it looks EXACTLY the same as the Giant version - except where you used to see the Giant name, you now see Microsoft. Even the installer is the same. Just what exactly are they beta testing? I didn't expect them to have to really change much, but I guess I just expected them to change SOMETHING more than the name.
67,000 people dead, and you're complaining about "fanbois"? Of which, I am not. I happened to visit the site today and thought their change of site was a very nice gesture. Just STFU.
Probably not as much traffic as Amazon or Google, but Apple also has also modified their front page to offer multiple relief links. Even the four boxes at the bottom have been changed to different organizations.
--he's selling Spy Sweeper for $6? --his "news" says he just released version 3.6 of Spy Sweeper - when Webroot has only released version 3.5 (though that's what he actually offers). --the MKSoft Spy Sweeper license is for lifetime, when Webroot sells for 1 yr.
Intersting... very interesting. Actually, I already sent an email to the Webroot folks about him... and linked this article here.
Hi... I'm Google Maps... have we met?
WTF are you talking about? There is no Globe Icon that says "maps" and no country selection.
What's funny was that he said he removed the large files because of bandwidth problems... he doesn't get around too much... does he?
nevermind... it's built in...
"search web for..."

Or if it already exsits, anyone have a link? I don't recall seeing one at http://update.mozilla.org/

if the bandwidth gets out of hand
Hi... Welcome to Slashdot. It already has gotten out of hand.
Maybe he was just going by what Firefox says (if he uses it). While mine was downloading, it says 261.4 MB (not 255 MB as the completed file says).
Last I checked this wasn't actually an "Ask Slashdot" article, it was just a post about other people giving up on the internet. The end questions were merely a poll of ideas.

Actually the "Monster $OBJECT" shows are on Discovery - along with many "American $OBJECT" shows. But yes, TLC is a wasteland of decorating garbage.
Can't it just be assumed, at this point, that if there's some major event involving porn, that Paris Hilton is involved?
Likely, yes. But where's the porn? They just said some candid snapshots...
Let me explain this again so you can read it:
THE WINDOWS UPDATE COMPLETED - The tool installed via Windows Update. IT DID NOTHING AT ALL AND I DO NOT SEE AN ICON TO RUN IT ANYWHERE FROM MY PC.
Ok... so now that you can actually understand what I'm saying... does it almost make more sense now?

Sounds like Nrik didn't participate in one of the past polls: When Do You Know You Play Too Many Video Games
but all I have is dollars...
They're probably even Canadian dollars...
Also, it's hard to keep people from clicking "yes".
I don't think it's so much clicking "yes" for most people (joe user)... it's more of clicking "go away" on things.

But did you really expect more out of the French?

... not just having the logos/software "removed."
Ok, that's a bit better. Now he's a little closer to "winning"
Anyone else notice that:
