  1. more info on Animated Ads in a Subway Near You · · Score: 1

It would have been nice had the article explained how the ads work instead of devoting the entire article to "what is an ad?" and "aren't these guys geniuses?"

  2. my inspiration on Transatlantic Model Airplane Flight to Begin Shortly · · Score: 1

This article makes me want to drive my radio shack remote control car across the US. All goes well until its run over by a semi.

  3. MTV music generator on Where are the 'Construction Set' Games? · · Score: 1

There is an MTV music generator game for PC and playstation that is supposed to allow users to create their own songs and export them.

  4. Re:Will they... on Extra Scenes in FotR Special Edition DVD · · Score: 1

I certainly hope they have more shots of frodo holding the ring in his hand. I felt like the symbolism drug me out into a back alley and beat me with a lead pipe. Great movie though.

  5. can't wait for sales figures on Mandrake Hits Wal-Mart(.com) · · Score: 1

I would be interested to see who will buy these computers. Linux users looking for a cheap machine might buy but I find it hard to believe average consumers could function on linux. The first time one of their friends brings over a program they can't run they'll either send the computer back or go out and buy windows.

  6. my first thought on Warner Bros. plans 'Superman vs. Batman' Movie · · Score: 1

When I heard "Superman vs. Batman" I thought they were talking about the last Superman movie and the last Batman movie battling it out to see which would be the crappiest super hero movie ever. Seriously though the right director will make or break this movie.

  7. I totally agree with the article on A Linux User Goes Back · · Score: 1

I really really want to use Linux on the desktop, really. Since I don't have a spare machine to put it on I try it out on my main machine once a year. After a week or so I get frustrated and go back to Windows for another year. That reminds me, it has been a year since I last tried it. Here we go again!

  8. Re:where is gaming going next? on High Score · · Score: 2, Informative

I completely agree. Although it is still fun to go to arcades. Dance Dance Revolution can sometimes gather a crowd and brings that social aspect back.

Kids (and when I say kids I mean teenagers, even though I'm 22 they seem like a completely different generation) have no concept of a high score. They can't understand a game that is impossible to complete.

I agree that there needs to be more social places to play video games (though I really like GameWorks). But first someone needs to build computers that can standup to a bar atmosphere.

As for home consoles there are some great party games: You don't know jack for PS1, Mario Party for N64, Warlords for Atari 2600.

  9. ads are slowly taking over on Would an Ad-Sponsored OS/Desktop Work for OSS? · · Score: 1

I am not usually a paranoid alarmist but after seeing Minority Report its easy to see how the world could eventually be overrun with "ad pollution." I know advertisements have their purpose but I am afraid of the possible damage to the psyche after years of ad oversaturation.

  10. Re:Beaten on the streets... on Nintendo Hires Walking Gamers · · Score: 3, Funny

By this logic I should be the greatest skateboarder, soldier, knight, pilot, plumber, vampire hunter, hedgehog, motocross champion, fighting robot, burger chef, magician, cop, car thief and race car driver that ever lived.

  11. Mozilla is cool on Web Designers Ignoring Standards and Support IE Only · · Score: 1

When I designed www.bitsmack.com (shameless plug) I always look at it in Mozilla first and IE second. So far I haven't run into any compatibility issues. There is an upside to this article, if companies started making their sites compatible with Mozilla they might find a way to get their stupid pop-ups to work (so far using Mozilla has all but completely stopped pop-ups).

  12. its not a bad idea on Handsprings for Kids? · · Score: 2, Informative

Coming from a family of teachers and being a tech person, I think giving kids access to technology is essential. However I don't know if Handspring would be the right choice for this age group. I have one myself and even though I like it I just think they would be too easily broken or lost. For K-8 I think getting them to use desktop computers is much more important than handhelds. If there is no way to give them access to desktop computers we may be back to square one and Handspring may be better than nothing.

  13. horror stories from computer store on Legalities of Rewrapped Games? · · Score: 1

I used to work at a computer/office supply chain and one time someone returned a CD writer box with a CDROM inside. The CDROM wasn't even the same brand. No one checked the box and it was shrinkwrapped and sold to someone else. It was embarassing for the manager when it was returned again. For higher priced items you have to check for a manufacturer's seal. For our store I could tell the rewrapped items because the wrap wasn't as tight.

  14. great for blind and seeing people both on Quake For the Blind · · Score: 1

It would be great if they incorporated these audio techniques into regular Quake. I could also see that this could be a great game to take on the road, you don't need a TV or monitor, just headphones and a controller.
