However, it would be a fun easter-egg. Put something in that detects if the rest of the code has been ripped off (maybe sometthing that searches for CherryOS). If it exists, then after 1 week of use start playing annoying sounds (maybe symphonic flatuation) through the speakers and saying foul things in various languages.
For a long time Sony has sold on its brandname, while it's products have started to suck in both quality and functionality/components. In this market though, Apple has brand recognition in the high ground. Sony might be able to snag a few fanboys, but I hope that they eventually catch a clue and realize that selling an overpriced player with less features (in this case less storage) is not going to gain them many fans.
Plus, the url might look right if the Phisher used a trojan to install a hosts file on your box.
If a trojan is installed on your box, it could be keylogging or any number of other things anyways. At that point I think you're past worry about being phished, you've already been landed.
I've been looking at moving to Australia, myself. A bunch of stupid laws going in there, but the people seem more active in moving against stupid things done by gov't whereas in Canada it seems to have to hit the courts first (and then we tend to have somewhat sane judges).
Being fired because you were photographed drinking Coors in a bar, when you work as a loader for Bud Light? I can't remember the exact beer brands, but this does happen.
Free speech is one thing, but what are a persons rights against a company dictating what you can do on your own time vs the risk of losing your job. Can they dictate personal preference?
*Note: Not a rhetorical question, I ask this because I'm not sure how it works in US law
The biggest issues I've had with Cedega are in dealing with various hardware and/or older games. For graphics NVidia cards should generally work fine, but I've had other cards that work fine on games in Windoze, and do have accelerated linux drivers that Wine simply doesn't like.
I think this is where they count in "mutations" or "aberrations"
Certainly messed up genes could make something that was vastly different than its predecessors, but unless that something was able to reproduce and create like offspring I'd not consider it a new species (especially if it could reproduce and produce offspring of a like to its parentage).
One thing to watch out for though is that this law might be abused by those claiming against parody sites. A parody site would have a similar look+feel (or heck, perhaps just a similar URL), but obviously a different focus/content. Now if there were a login option on the parody site, the primary site might be able to claim they were phishing for usernames/passwords...
Actually, to be fair I don't mind dupes. If a story was up a week or a month ago sometimes it gives us a chance to discuss it fresh. However, all dupes are not created equal. Having a dupe story created within one day/hour of the original just shows laziness, and double-duping (a dupe of a dupe) is even more annoying.
We get a lot of those at work. Last time it was in a lab, there was apparently a "kerpow" and the computer died. Kid tried reaching around the back of the PC for the power and got a little zap... I found the shredded remains of a capacitor blown partway out the fan slot.
It's a little easier to hide under the veil of anomymity using the internet. Having candidate (a) hire a spammer to spam for candidate (b) just before an election comes to mind. Or how about if a non-endorsed fan of (a) just decides to do so?
It might help, but it opens up new problems as well.
Well, at least it will probably have a faster processor
It's been my experience that PC's tend to have faster processors than their Mac counterparts anyways. The difference is made up by the Macs being better optimized for what they do - especially in the area of graphics etc - and the OS+hardware being better tied together.
I've seen screencaps from longhorn which show your desktop as basically a 3d view from the inside of a cube. You can rotate the cube and the icons held on it, etc.
A similar boat here. Much as I like my job the town I live in causes my health to suffer greatly. There are a lot of wood mills etc that play hell on my allergies, to the point where I'm going to have to take antibiotics for my second nasty sinus infection.
Symptoms: Spitting bloody mucus in the mornings (due to drain), swollen head, constantly tired, etc.
I'm taking shots for the allergies and hopefully those should kick in soon. Otherwise I'm not sure I can afford the detriment to my well-being, despite the job itself being good.
When considering your current/future employment, it's not just the job that's at issue, the complete situation (job, local living conditions, etc) must also be considered
A lot of people who want to watch porn themselves still wouldn't want their kids to see it. Just like having an internet account, daddy wouldn't want little Johnny looking at naughty pictures, but I doubt he minds doing so himself.
<LordChewy> so my dad found my porn folder
<LordChewy> and he was getting all pissed
<LordChewy> so its all like "does this surprise you? i'm not stupid you know"
<LordChewy> "i know dad"
<LordChewy> "what do you have to say for yourself?"
<LordChewy> at this point i stare at him straight in the eyes and say "C:Documents and SettingsRickyMy Documentsfaxessent faxes"
<LordChewy> and he just shut up
<kingKahn> what is it?
<LordChewy> its his porn folder
Actually, I'd have to say I've floated down the river on both of these boats...
In my best job, the manager:
Somewhat understood what I did, only as much as she needed to.
Didn't try to do my job, and made sure others didn't interfere with it.
Made sure that the "team" was talking and everyone was on the same page.
In other jobs, the manager(s):
Buy software that sucks, based on marketspeak, and then expects me to make it work (which sometimes is impossible, or often enough possible but it doesn't work well).
Don't understand my job at all (no, you don't need to understand how the firewall/antispam/etc work, but you should understand their basic function/importance or at least trust me on that)
Allows others to interfere with my job
It's not about ego-enlargement at all. For myself, and many geeks I've met, it's simple about allowing us to do our job, and at times trusting that we know more than the marketdroids about how to do it efficiently. As far as ego goes, I have more issues with respect. Some people regard geeks as glorfied button-pushers and treat them thusly. I don't need my ego stroked but neither do I care to have people looking down upon me.
Right... because everyone knows that Microsoft hasn't been involved in ANY lawsuits at all. *cough* antitrust *cough* *cough*eolas patent *cough*
Anyone can be sued... at least Linux was shown to be "in the right"

:-)
That ought to get somebody's attention

After looking into it a bit, I came up with the counter to this.
A company's right to fire you without proper justification is offset by your ability to sue them for wrongful dismissal.
Being fired because you were photographed drinking Coors in a bar, when you work as a loader for Bud Light? I can't remember the exact beer brands, but this does happen.

Before this whole mess went to court, why not just claim that the "sources" were in fact anonymous or were only known by alias.
Letting Apple know that a source known as "Dave Smith" gave the info wouldn't exactly do much for them.

Well... sometimes flash site navigation ain't too bad:
Machine Supremacy has nice flash nave on Their Site
It's fancier than your standard HTML/JavaScript, but still easy to find what you want (and there is an HTML version if you don't want the fanciness).
And of course, there are lots of rather neat little flash movies abounding, much better than badgerbadger

Indeed... with such a device I could be very fun to hack given time. Maybe we could end with something similar to "Teddy" for A.I.
And of course there's the added joy of shocking people by editing the default dialog to something a bit more interesting...

Here's mine. It allows all users to run CD-burning apps as root via sudo:
/usr/bin/cdrecord
ALL ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/xcdroast,

Wasn't the recording industry nailed for trying to force retailers to up the price for CD's. Wouldn't this be just as illegal for Mp3 downloads?
As far as the above goes, this adequately summarizes it fairly well:
"I love God, it's his fanclub I can't stand"
People, in pursuit of an ideal, often enough confused the ideal to the point where their actions are completely contrary to the initial concept.
I link is worth a thousand complaints, ya know:
Best I could find on google was a link to an old slashdot article mentioning the same...
