They are genuinely competitively priced; I was looking at cheap smart phones just yesterday, and if I recall correctly, a Nokia 520 was only about £120.00 - and I think that's unlocked too.
Lack of apps would put me off, but I can see the logic in buying a Nokia phone for that price. I just *wish* they sold it with Android on it! They could charge more then!
The YouTube website will have to deal with multiple browsers with varying capabilities and it seems unlikely Google would invest much time optimizing for a browser that has such low market-share. If the shoe was on the other foot, it's not like MS would worry about anyone else. Indeed, they didn't in the past.
HTML5 is pretty rich now. If you're building an HTML5 for a single browser, it isn't hard to build something that's almost like a native app.
I suspect part of the real reason for MS not wanting to go down the HTML5 route is that by doing so, the service provider (aka Google) is then in control of the look and feel of the app.
So one of the largest software companies in the world can't code an app to display content from a web page in HTML5?
^ This. I mean, it's not like they have to worry about making is compatible with IE6, IE7, IE8, IE9 *and* Firefox, Chrome, Opera etc. You know, like many other web-devs have to. They've got it easy they have. Cunts!
Also - reap what you sow! There's a distinct lack of sympathy from myself and I suspect many other people.
It may be worth noting that having the capability does not denote intent to use at a particular time or place. Example: many thousands of Americans have firearms, and therefore are technically capable of assassinating a political figure, but they don't.
The Falklands had already been invaded at this point, so you'd need to adjust your analogy a bit there otherwise it doesn't really work.
I'm amazed Firefox has support. I was 100% certain that there was an argument/discussion on Bugzilla about this, and Mozilla's opinion on this was that having animated PNG support would just increase the size of the browser whilst there were virtually no websites using it.
Did I imagine this, or did something change, or do they only support a subset of animated PNG or something?
Sorry for replying to my own post... I was getting confused with MNG. I guess APNG must be easier to implement?

If your company future depends on Microsoft innovating on your behalf... you're already screwed.
^ This. I *really* hope Nokia have a plan-B, and I hope that plan is Android.
I'm hard pressed to think of anything really innovative Microsoft has done in years -- mostly they look at what others are doing and copy it (or buy it).
Which is particularly unfortunate because it's clear Nokia have been trying hard to up their game both with phone design, and in particular with their cameras; they've always been brilliant for having great radios.
I don't think it has had enough press coverage just how fantastic Nokia's latest cameras are:

Nokia deserve better than Microsoft. Plus, I'd really like to buy a smart phone with a camera that good, and with a decent set of radios in there too, but it'd kill me to buy Windows-Phone.
Apologies to everyone for my late arrival, but I note that no one seems to have picked up on the fact that this phone is only available in black and white!
Clearly Motorola have some catching up to do with the likes of Appel and Sumsang.
Could this be the reason they're only trying to sell it in Canadia?
TFA mentions a previously released office document viewer extension for Chrome, so presumably if/when the office editor will also be provided as a Chrome extension rather than integrated.
I'm running 12.04LTS and it's *very* flaky! I was hoping it would stabilise, but it's becoming clear that once a release is out the door, LTS or not, it pretty much gets forgotten for the next-great-thing(TM) that Canonical are playing with.
Each Ubuntu has always been been a bit two-steps-forward, one-step-back, but I can't help thinking that 10.10 or so was the last one where I felt I was running something better than the previous release.
And I'm not complaining about Unity - I actually quite like having a launcher on the left and integrated menus on a laptop as it makes better use of the screen. On a desktop I can live with it. But software stability is now lower, and I doubt Mir is going to be stable for a few years yet, and I'm tired of being part of Canonical's experiment.
If Xubuntu avoids Mir, then I might use that, but otherwise I'll have to switch to Mint or even Debian.
If she simply admitted that she was wrong, future employers might consider a little sympathy
^ This. Reminds me quite a lot of dongle-gate woman for the same inability to comprehend the actual problem.
Also relevant to this "internet-never-forgets" topic is the fact that before it was deleted, Emma Way's twitter history showed a posting with a photo of her car speedometer at 95mph... oh look, here's a copy:

multi-windowed-GIMP sucks a bit on Ubuntu Unity too; only the main menu has menus, so when I click on the Toolbox or Layers, Channels, etc windows, I can't access the menus. That said... I blame Unity for that!
There's a "Unity MT Grab Handles" compiz plugin that can help. Not sure if it's enabled by default, but I'm fairly certain you need to give it a key binding to actually use it. From my install notes....
Well, there was a buzzing noise for all electric doors. Don't recall a whooshing sound, but in a spaceship it's reasonable to assume sections will acquire an air pressure differential.
Watch the video... it's just a door! Also, that bit is on Earth before the prisoners have been transferred.
A "special effect" from the first series that I was particularly amused by was the doors; they had doors that swung on hinges and had handles used to "operate" them.... but get this.... they make a kind of whooshing noise! - Skip to about 40 seconds in, and marvel at the future tech!
Isn't it already somewhat crippled compared with the WindowsPhone version?

We should use code 418 then. It's been around forever, and it's probably quite appropriate!
Yeah, the hackers will have to learn to yodle if they want to hack this!

James Cameron got the idea years ago for Terminator 2.
Don't worry, Apple lawyers are already filing suit against Cameron for using time travel to steal their idea.
Wrong way around. I think you'll find Apple have already dispatched the JOBS-1000 unit to kill James Cameron's mother.

At this point, they should rename it to the Boeing 451 Dreamliner
Boeing 787 Hindenburg more like!
Why are the USA still not using them?
Regardless of the USA, this is Slashdot. We are nerds are we not? Why doesn't slashdot *always* use metric in it's summaries?

$ sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
$ ccsm
Find the "Unity MT Grab Handles" plugin and set:
"Toggle Handles" binding to <Super>h
Then you just press windows-key + h to make some nice large resizing handles appear. They should fade away automatically after a few seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48gH_v8ulLA Did you know Servalan sang a key section of a very famous album?

When can we start suing them for being a monopoly?
If you're not careful, they'll be asking the government for bailout money next!
