probably not. Only if they place a crazy tarrif on us that goes around some previous agreement. I dont see that happening. The US goverment isnt gonna stick up for MS.
This is very true. The company I admin for sells a perpetual inventory system for private pharmacies. Our entire system is based off Dell Power Edge Servers running Windows 200x. We do this because 99.9% of the people we sell to use MS products. Secondly the hosiptals we sell to have to admin the server once we sell it to them (we dont want to be responsible for their security and I'm sure they'd wrather have it that way). Thirdly and probably the most important is the pharmacy techs using the Client. They're just average users and its all they know. Its very very scary to see what hospitals consider "security" on these workstations. When we ship the boxes they're in a default state (minus the administrator account being disabled and a temporary account being made). Usually when we go out to a site to work on the system these boxes are in that default state. Its sad they dont tighten security on these boxes. I'd hate to see how they security is on the SQL server. But back to the point....These are mission critical systems for a hospital. If they lose this system it can slow down the drug distribution process and that can be catostrophic at critical times.

This is true. I hardly use my apartment land line for anything. I use my cell for long distance calls and local calls. I really cant explain why. I just do. It probably has to do with the fact that the phone is right there with you and you dont have to remember a number. However, landlines are great in power outages and other instances where digital communcation would be inturrupted. Plus most older people, lets say 40+, dont rely on cell phones or IM clients nearly as much as we do. The only 40 year olds I know who use an IM client are fellow techies and my mom . Its funny because she only wanted to try it out because my sister and I use it all the time. Its just not the same experience for her because she only has family members on there...so a buddy list of 5 doesnt make much sense.
It would be great if eveyone posted the correct information. However I can see why some one would not want to put their real information in the registrars DB. I use my full name for the web sites I maintain. But, as stated earlier. If I was to do something to speak out against my University (Private) I probably wouldnt want to use my real Identification. It'd be nice to avoid getting the boot just because of a personal opinion.
I hate when people do that. they're definately not geeks if they use the internet purely for social interaction. Or the people who thing the world wide web is teh intarweb. They also think IE is the internet:)
back in the day. Our resnet admins used to scan for Administrator accounts with out a password. I goto Baylor. They also did not approve of anyone running a web site, but they left port 80 open to servers. But just to becareful and aviod some trouble I just ran my site off of old gopher ports.
its nice to see some artists changing with the times. I was considering downloading this CD...but i just may buy it for two reasons
1. it'll prolly be cheap
2. atleast this band is being some what innovative despite the resistance to change in the record maffia.
if the RIAA gets what they want i will be denying their access to my company. I personally dont mind if fellow employees download music or what not. Its their business. So i'll man an effor to protect them.
i seem to be having some trouble loading the RIAA's site. I really wanted to get some info off their site.....oh wait...never mind...i was just going there to help/. em. silly me. how easily i forget.

It may seem like a jungle out there but you'll soon know your way around.
i could understand why they're making a big deal about people with open wireless connections that dont have any security. I use wireless around my house because it would have been a huge hasstle to wire it up. Granted my wireless network is secure and I'm not sharing with the neighbors. But if they wanna get rid of all wireless connections i think that is a load of crap. And technically they have no bisiness looking into things past the modem because that's where their support ends....

if they can get under age people to get porn over the internet. When they're of age they'll be more likely to purchase porn. Just a thought.
