it would be nice and all. But there are some programs out there that will just not run under a user account. Hell they wont even run under power-user. As a network admin it really pisses me off. For example. the most recent version of Quickbooks requires a user level of admin or power-user to run the program. So I have to setup each user who works with Quickbooks as an Admin on their local machine. I went with admin because a few legacy programs we run just simply will not operate under anything less than a admin account. Of course this opens the door for a pile of spyware. I have installed Ad-aware on every single computer in my office and taught everyone how to use it. Have they? No! The simple solution is to call me and click three buttons and tell them to take a coffee break while thier computer is scanned. aaaaaahhhh!!!!
I've heard on a windows box you want to set your max page file size to 1.5x RAM. So if you're running 512MB of RAM you want your page file to be 768. From what i've noticed with linux or what most distros seem to use for defaults is 1x RAM. I notice my linux box hitting the swap file more than my windows system. However the windows box is always using the page file, even under idle situations when its been doing nothing all night. All be it very low. its stil using it. When i switch over to my linux system...no swap is being used until i open up an ap. Is this consistant with what everyone is saying?
Street Fighter
Mortal Kombat
Super Mario Brothers
Final Fantasy is the only one i give good credit to. Its a game that could do it. Why because the story is different in every single game. So a move that shares a title and has a different story did ok.

I would venture to say there are far more sound cards supported than there are wireless cards supported. That seems to be the largest pain in the ass. Especially when your manufacturer changes chips on you every other week...ala linksys
its a crying shame our country has to be spoon fed everything.
machine: press the big red button

real player blows. there's no if ands or buts about it. I downloaded the first version of real player back in the 56k day. I took it off and said "never ever again" Well that was until i decided to take defensive driving online. Well I'd say aroudn 3 years ago you had to install realplayer to watch their videos. Now If you'll notice they do their vidoes through windows media player. WMP may be bloated but its spyware free.
It would be perfect to have an operating system that was secure out of the box (due to features built-in) like the worlds greatest personal firewall. However I just dont see this as being a likely solution. I think an operating system should have a basic firewall like XP or any linux distro. But to ask a software developer to focus a ton of time on making me a bullet proof firewall instead of making the OS more stable just doesnt make sense. As stated in the article there's only so much development time and then you have to get your product out the door or you're going to have some pissed off users. I would want (in the case of OSes) the comapny to spend the majority of their time making the OS stable and a little bit of firewall is nice. But i would much rather use another means of securing my network instead of using 2,000 personal firewalls.
yeah, i've run into that problem before. I was working on my computer on a good 17" monitor that could do some high resolutions. Then i brought my computer up to the office for a bit and completely forgot about the desktop res being set so high. Well I hooked it up to an older 15" I had at the office and whaaaam crazy lines every where. Forunate enough for me Remote Desktop saved my ass. This was an XP box BTW
I hate real with a burning passion. It has got to be the worst audio player in the world. Its chalked full of ads and spy-ware. I would much wrather use bloated ol windows media player any day of the week. Like many posts above / below this one i dont understand why more people dont stream MP3 instead of WMA or whatever god awful file type real uses. I fart in Real's general direction!
the ECU in a modern car already logs half of those things listed. The data from your ECU can be used against you in court. I can see this becoming a full production line "feature"
Gillette was / is putting sensor tags on the back of razor blade refill packs. A sensor mounted above their shelf position would snap a picture everytime someone picked up one of the refill packs. Their idea behind this was to determine how many refil packs were sold and to help curb theft some how.
Lets just throw due process out the window. While we're at it lets get rid of the bill of rights too. I mean, hell! Who needs those first 10 amendments anyways. They're always up for debate in some form or fashion. Obviously this would never pass
yeah, i guess its not out of the relm of possible outcomes. I personally think the Government shouldnt do anything unless it becomes a large scale economic issue. If they just fine the bejesus out of MS I'd be ok with it. They need a little slapping around.
Automatic Updates and Norton...and try to minimize office guests access to the network...
I'm sure i'm not the first to say "I've got a copy without a label :)
that silly halt command throws everyone for a loop :)
its for people who have lots of time to complile :)
fuck that business. I'll take my Firefox unperverted.
Interesting...you learn something new every day. Didnt really think of it that way.
