Fortunately for me I had already swapped out my mission-critical servers to Linux so I was mostly dealing with workstations. My unit functioned at 90% even while air-gapped (corporate email was out but the users took it in stride).
My after-action report was circulated and the event figured in my promotion. My predecessor was much more passive and cavalier which is why he was my predecessor and not colleague.

The process of investigation weeds out the innocent, and in fact the act of investigation is how the majority of people are caught.
