DVD data transfer rates are higher than CD transfer rates because, even though they spin at similar speeds (limited by exploding dics problem), the pits and tracks on the DVD are closer together.
Random seeks on a full disc are comparable for CD and DVD, because it's largely a mechanical problem. However, for a well laid out disk, and a similar amount of data, DVD wins easily.
That's so much my last employer. Hire 'em green, and work them until they're too cynical to hang around. Can't say it's done them much good either. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
For electronica fans, Bleep sells good quality MP3's from Warp, Ninja Tune, and a bunch of related labels. They're generally just over a buck a piece, and their preview tool is excellent. Many of the tracks are not available on CD, so this is the only way of getting a digital copy without going through the incredibly painfull process of ripping vinyl.
The irony here is that many of the better documentaries on The History Channel, TLS, and Discovery, and Bravo, are BBC productions in the first place, and only sound american, because they've been dubbed.
Well "break" is a bit of an exaguration, but the pain was real enough. The deep groove on the triggers forces my fingers in an unnatural angle, which becomes no fun at all when you have to hold them down for extended periods. Just thinking about Metroid Prime causes my trigger finger to ache.
Cheney can say whatever he likes about building Nuclear Power plants, because it's going to get blocked at the state level. It's a free hit, so he says the popular vote winning thing (the majority wants nuclear power, just not in their backyard), without any risk of blowback.
Course if you'd read that article you'd linked, you might have noticed that.
First and foremost, it's the first console to ever include a hard drive...and the first one to ditch it for the next generation. It's also the first console to lose a billion dollars a year, and not drag it's owner under.
Let me see, $50 for the legit copy of Metal Slug 3 with a broken continue system, OR $0 for a rom that I can play on pretty much any platform, with as many continues as I like.
Weird, because I went to an actual physical Apple Store in Santa Monica, on monday, and they told me that they weren't being released until July. Sounds like you're the victim of an intercontinental screw-up.
Author is either a lazy ass troll (pc vs console, puhlease), or just incredibly stupid and deserves a slap.
the PS1 never produced realtime 3d graphics to equal even Mario 64
Bullshit. Although Mario 64 was the better game, Crash Bandicoot was graphically (and technically) way more impressive.
Somewhere between zip, and fuck-all.

Wow! People still channel surf? I don't think I've done that since TiVo arrived...

Nintendo: $149 DS!
Sony: Slimmer PS2!
MS: Err... umm...
It's true, he obviously knows nothing about console development.
DirectX is a MS API. Most PS2 titles are already written in C++.
The first rule of slashdot moderation is that you don't endlessly bitch and whine about slashdot moderation.
Doh, meant to delete Bravo, as MI5/Spooks isn't really a documentary...;)

The West Wing kicks ass though.

The triggers adapt to the fingers so the controller never slips from you.

(from bitter experience)
The fees that people pay for Xbox Live help pay for the development of new content.
No they don't! They used to pay for Ed Fries crack habit, but now J Allard rolls and smokes them personally.

$30 and more than one credit, would have sold me.
...and what about the 2d platform classics, Mine Cart level, and Ice world.
The first part is ok, the second is hot air.
Not even particularly funny bullshit either.

Since Babbage never actually completed the Analytical Engine. He didn't finish the Difference Engine either, but The Science Museum in London, did.
> WMP 9 is a really cool piece of software.
Not it's not, it's a piece of shit with an appalling user interface.
