    When a product like this takes *umpteen* years without any kind of progress or even a measly status report, you have incompetent managers, incompetent programmers, insufficient funding, incompetent financers, inadequate workplace or ideas distant from reality. 3D Realms probably had all of it and more.

    I still don't get that trail of thought. So, when a project is leading nowhere you trash it right? And then start on a new project. If that doesn't go anywhere you trash it, and start a new one again?

    That pretty much sounds like Duke Nukem Forever. They trashed the projects a few times and started a new one. Except that they kept using the same name for the project.

    I think the problem was that they didn't make enough changes to the production process. So they were bound to fail in the same way.

    How would you know? The best cheaters won't be caught, but that doesn't mean they're not cheaters.

    Most dvds state that rental is not allowed

    The trick is not to rent DVDs, but lend it to people asking to recuperate you on diminished value due to wear and tear, and for the fact that for a short period do have to access to the item you own.

    And yes, they probably can get copyrights on the scans, even if the underlying material is public domain. Of course, it *should* only apply to the scan. So if you transcribe the words from whatever text yourself, you might be in the clear (depending on your own local laws).

    How is scanning of documents different from ripping music from CDs?

    Most of the games I buy are through online retailers. I prefer to own a physical copy. I don't like spending over 20 euros on something I cannot touch. (That, and I'm a sucker for collectors editions.) And I don't mind waiting a few days. Offline retailers usually suck, because it's a big mess. It's not easy to find stuff or browse through the whole collection.
