  1. EUCD made DVD reselling illegal in Denmark on UK Becomes Sixth Country to Implement EUCD · · Score: 4, Interesting

FYI, here in Denmark the interpretation of the EUCD has made DVD reselling illegal! That is all DVDs other than region 2.

It pretty much sucks, as you have to privately import, say region 1 and region 4 discs now if you still want to absorb some kind of foreign culture and art.

Refer to my other post on Brushy Bill Roberts - I bet it's the connection you're looking for.

  3. Try Brushy Bill Roberts' grave? on Billy the Kid Faces The Law... Again · · Score: 1

What I find most intriguing about The Kid, is the fact that he may not have been killed at all that night at Fort Sumner. I've read Sheriff Pat Garrett's book "The Authentic Life of Billy The Kid" and remember the description of The Kid's fateful night was rather cloudy - it was dark during the shootout. It's been a while since I've read it though.

If it turns out that Billy's body isn't in either of those graves, perhaps they should exhume Brushy Bill Roberts' grave. For those who don't know the Brushy Bill Roberts story, Brushy was a man from Hico, Texas, who after being confronted by an attorney confessed to being The Kid - all his charecteristics we actually said to have matched the Kid's, such as having unusally small hands and big wrists. Also, all the wounds that the Kid was known to have were accounted for on Brushy.

I find the story rather interesting - he was supposed to go before the Governor of New Mexico and get his promised pardon, however just before that he died from a heart attack at the age of 90 in 1950. It's not that far out, as The Kid was in his early twenties during the time of the Lincoln County War. It could have been Brushy.

If you're using it as a desktop, go with the unstable branch - it's really not that unstable. It hasn't broken apart on me yet. And you don't have to update every day either, just do it once a week or something like that, and it'll be run smooth for ya.

"testing/unstable" in Debians book means the same as "stable" in Red Hat's book - that's my experience, either.

And the stable branch? Well that's as rock solid as you can get a Linux distro. Works wonders as a server. But hey, I'd say using the testing branch on servers is not out of the question.

You're right, actually. However, on NT you're completely screwed as Microsoft are the only ones who can supply security fixes etc. In Red Hat's case you could patch diff the files from a SRPM or someting like that, and I guess it's possible that someone other than Red Hat can supply newer RPMs you could upgrade with.

Actually I find the fake ones distracting, but that's because I'm just a geek. I find they're almost always very poorly done with bells and whistles to make it clear what's happening, ie. messages like "Copying virus...".

However, I found the desktop in American Pie's "Nadiavision" sequence very nicely executed. There are lots of goodies to spot if you freeze frame and look at all the overlapping windows. I remember you can see Jim's email address @eastgreatfalls.edu (FYI, the working title of the movie was East Great Falls High), and you can also se he accidentally selects the East Great Falls Directory in the recipients list when sending the email with the link to his webcam. The link was an HTTP URL with correct dotted decimal IP address.

Novell today also announced that IBM intends to make a $50 million investment in Novell convertible preferred stock. In addition, Novell and IBM are negotiating extensions to the current commercial agreements between IBM and SUSE LINUX for the continued support of SUSE LINUX on IBM's eServer products and middleware products to provide for product and marketing support arrangements related to SUSE LINUX.
