Little Bobby does not expect you to be on top of everything. The basic stuff, lock your car doors, use placeholders in SQL statements should be a reasonable expectation.
Yeah, it sucks they transmit diseases, but it does create evolutionary pressure. Not saying it is a great justification, it sucks to be sick(and die) for disease but as humans we generally are thinking very long term about these sorts of things.
China is doing the exact same thing that Japan did in the 90's. Banks are offering loans to create make work projects for which they will never get repaid. Eventually it will bite them just like it did with Japan.
That somehow that this is just working fine is fairy tale thinking.
The tax loopholes are there because it is the easiest way for Congressmen to give money directly to their local supporters. Example: Kentucky and race horses.
Since everyone does it, no ones what to go and shoot down someone else's tax break because they may lose theirs.
You know why they do fingerprinting? Teaching kids is hard, have a computer collect and count fingerprints, that is EASY! So an administrator can look like he is doing a job without having to do stuff that may require real work.
You had me except for the part about liberals and GMO foods. The idea that somehow these corporations are going to lead to just good things is pure fantasy. GMO foods are about LOCK IN. They are worse than Microsoft.
Take Monsanto, they developed GM seeds that worked with "Roundup", their weed killer. The plants are not better, they are created so they could sell more herbicide. How do they react to competition?
Develop a new seed product to work with Roundup - you get bought out so they don't have to compete
Storing seed to carry from season to season(besides being considered illegal) - They try to created a termination gene so it cannot carry more than a season. (F*** the farmers who accidentally get cross-pollination from this.)
Cross-pollination of seeds with surrounding farms (wanted or not) - your sued for being a moochers
Market your products as non-GMO - your sued because there is no proof that there is a difference between GMO and non-GMO (at least in court).
So you can color me a little jaded if I ain't all Kumbayah about GMO foods and the companies that produce them.
There are guys doing this at my company, and the reasoning for it is that web developers know JavaScript. They don't necessarily know the back end language that is used to generate web pages (Perl, Java, PHP, etc...).
Rather than have web developers spend time learning the back end, they display a blank div and use AJAX to request the data that they want. Then they can create the web page in JavaScript. I am not sure that this will be good way to go, but I do understand why the business wants to explore the idea.
This is not a new idea, but it was issued in 2006! But I guess it is easier to just treat the patent office database as the complete repository of all knowledge in the world rather than actually THINK about whether it is a valid patent or not.
I know VM is not very secure, but what I don't understand is why everyone is not screaming about this being a hacking crime. If an individual does this they want to throw the book at them and lock them up for years.
Just because it is a newspaper out to make money does not entitle them to escape criminal charges. They should be out there pressing charges and fining Murdoch for this behavior.
You would not even have to charge a fee, just a deposit that is returned when you have sold enough books. That would filter out spammers and real authors could get their money back after selling a few titles.
Since asking IT for something big is a political issue if it doesn't report to you or your business unit, it could very well save time (and the political capital they'd spend asking for things) for business managers to whip out a credit card instead of calling IT when they need something.
So it appears that 'eating their own dog food applies', if the business has an IT department that can/does not respond to their needs then they have no one else to blame but themselves.
To take this a bit further, I think managers that try farming this out are going to screw it up anyways. It is unlikely that they will have the knowledge to manage specifications or implementation of the final product and it will get dumped on the IT department anyways.
Seen it before and I don't expect that to change in the future considering how often the Peter Principal is still used.
Do you only have one piece of paper on your desk? Actually do you have a desk that is slightly larger than just your monitor? I mean 1 piece of paper is ALL anyone should need to look at at one time right?
This question is dumb! You have multiple monitors because you need to see more things that can fit on one screen at one time. I am not going to divide up my monitoring space between windows until they are the size of post-it notes. I am scanning hundreds of lines of code sometimes, and a full monitor to see that gives me the ability 120~ lines. Now I have to see the result of my coding. I have that on another monitor, and I only have to look back and forth between my code and the results being displayed. I guess I could toggle back and forth between windows, but it is much faster and easier if I can just look at another screen. Is the cost of a new monitor really that big a deal?
Why not confiscate all the extra pens and pencils and make sure everyone has just 1 from now on? I am sure the $20 that you save over the course of the year should cover all the BS from that situation too. Perhaps we can give you the Dilbert PHB award that you are looking for.
I think it says, that "Law Enforcement" does not have the technical abilities nor a direct interest in taking a lead in these sorts of operations.
It also concerns me because the government is turning to corporations to take the lead. This is how corporate entities, like the RIAA and MPAA, gain overwhelming political power to push their agenda. We just get a a government that becomes an extension of a corporations will.
It was not the government vs a blogger but rather an individual who sued them for causing him to lose his job. It was also a jury trial NOT the government who made the decision.
Evidently the reason for the lawsuit was the blogger accused him of being involved in a fraud mortgage fraud and Moore was fired for it. So it was based upon a libel claim(I am guessing).
Last week there was a post about a 12-year accusing a teacher of being a "pedophile". A number of people came out of the woodwork to chastise this child for potentially ruining the teacher's career and life. I wonder if people are going to speak up against this blogger as he caused Moore to lose his job and impacted his reputation accusing him of being a crook.

Thanks for the insight Grover Norquist, you have been a big help!

I know, it is like the market has not seen 2 big bubbles pop, or record high unemployment or the largest budget gap in the history of the US.
I mean if the DOW's current price has not changed much in 13 years we can thank the benefits of "High frequency trading" for this stability!
Nothing by Glen Cook?
And the half-serious series from Jim Butcher? WTH?

This is about the dumbest argument I have ever heard for avoiding taxation!

Because not everything that is obvious is patented? Like this one,
A computerized list is provided with auxiliary pointers for traversing the list in different sequences. One or more auxiliary pointers enable a fast, sequential traversal of the list with a minimum of computational time. Such lists may be used in any application where lists may be reordered for various purposes.

Rubert Murdoch was vacation AND he was from Australia, what is the big deal?
This is what happens when LAWYERS put themselves up as middlemen for everything in the economy.
I rested all of my fingers uniformly across the keypad, gently caressing their every ridge and facet as I discreetly pumped out my digits
Have you considered a career writing Harlequin novels?
I say it is great social experiment to prove how idiotic the whole idea can be.
So let these people have their paradise and maybe they will stop going bug-f*** on the rest of us.
Some players are not going to be able to compete against CCP, but there is no game without CCP.
I was going to mod this down, but thought, at this is not bad as Digg so I let it go... :)

Companies don't like to eat their own dog food, no surprise there.
