  1. Re:Release gap on The Evolution of Mac Gaming · · Score: 1

In my opinion, the best we Mac users can hope for with mainstream games in the near future is shorter porting time with the switch to Intel processors looming.

I don't want to make anyone sound stupid... but the switch to intel wont affect port times directly. The OS is what takes time to deal with, not the instruction set.

  2. How about video cards, smart guy? on The Evolution of Mac Gaming · · Score: 5, Insightful

But the largest reason usually has had to do with the size of the Mac market.

What about the fact that most of the computers Apple ships come with a GeForce 5200 (iMac), Radeon 9200 (Mac Mini), or have crappy ATi laptop cards (iBook/PB) and are NOT UPGRADABLE? Not to mention the low RAM that comes standard.

Sure, they ship the G5s with good cards.. sometimes.. but I dropped $3 grand to get my DP 2.5 with a 6800 Ultra in it.

So blame the market all you want, I'm sure that's a good portion of it. However, if those MacIntels use stanard PC gaming cards, I'm willing to wager an upswing in Mac gaming.

Surely there are better examples of censorship among Republicans. Maybe the flag-burning ammendment thing? Or maybe McCain's desire to censor the internet (as an Arizonan, I apologize for this man).

Democrats call themselves "the party of free speech," but they enact legislation like sexual harassment laws and the hate crimes law which effectively hinder free speech (whether you like it or not). Not to mention the grandfather post about video game and internet censorship brought to the forefront by Hillary and Joseph "Stalin" Leiberman.

I do agree with your premise though:

I think it's fair to say both the Democrats and the Republicans are at the forefront of censorship.

This is why I don't vote for either party.

Other than that, I'm pleased Apple's switching. Maybe we can get some cheaper 3rd party stuff like video cards. I still remember paying $150 for a Voodoo2 when the Voodoo3 3000 came out, not to mention the years of the ATi clusterfsck.

I find it funny that whenever republicans do this, everyone starts talking about "THE RADICAL RIGHT," but when democrats lead the way, it's all about "the government" or "politicians" in general.

It works the same way with gun control: when republicans do it, it's "big government," when democrats do it, it's "the liberal's" fault.

The only reason I'm posting this short review is because many view TA 1 to be the best RTS ever made. My point is that it's all a matter of what you value most: huge waves of units and really really fast clicking or actual strategy.

    4) Heat from coal boils water, powers turbines (Oh you'd better believe that's inefficient)
    5) electricity from turbines goes into power grid to homes (lots of loss there)

  20. Re:Easy to fix on Identity Thieves Drain Unemployment Benefit Funds · · Score: 1

Life's not that simple. For every person ripping off the unemployment system there are 9 others who actually need it.

Yeah, too bad the 1 person ripping off the program are probably, on average, taking much, much more out of the system than the 9 people who "need" it.

Economics dictates that people would "need" these programs less if they didn't exist--meaning that people would rely more on savings. It shows a general distrust in the people's collective judgement to dock their pay and use it to pay people who have lost their jobs.

Imagine if you saved all that money you pay in unemployment taxes and had THAT for a rainy day. Considering the fraud and the fact that these programs still aren't bankrupt, it WOULD be more efficient.

Regardless, ALL payroll taxes affect wages and are effectively a burden on the labor market. So essentially, once you lose your job, unemployment taxation actually REDUCES the opportunity to get a new job! Solve a problem by creating a new one: it's the American way.

Finally, as an added nugget of useful information, just because "the employer" pays part of your payroll taxes doesn't mean that it doesn't affect you. Economics dictates that the burden of taxation on a market has nothing to do with who sends the check to the gov't, but what the supply and demand curves look like. This means that if you JUST increased payroll taxes on the employer's end, it would STILL lower wages for the employees. Therefore, SS taxes (another payroll tax) are NOT 6.2% but 12.4%.

Maybe there should be theaters with captions, but asking them all to do it is like asking Ford to put handicap controls on the steering wheels of all their cars.

With Obesity becoming a disease, are we to widen the seats as well?

I was wheelchair-bound for a few months and I had to live without doing my favorite things. It sucked, but I wasn't going to sue Guitar Center for not having wide enough walkways, or sue the bike company for not putting hand-cranks on regular bicycles.

Subtitles light up the whole theater and are really distracting. Considering that 99.9% of people who go to movies can hear (with or without an aid), I'd say that's the breaks. Some things just aren't fair, we all have our own battles to overcome, and, quite frankly being deaf is not the worst of them.
