You post makes little sense to me. First, we arne't Bush bashing. He wasn't really involved with this bill. It's bashing the Republicans and their love of the religious right.
Is that why the headline reads: Bush Signs Law Targeting P2P Pirates
Funny, I didn't know the executive wrote the laws:?
If you throwing $2000-3000 into a computer, I somehow doubt $65 bucks to upgrade it by a gig of RAM is going to break the bank.
hrm.. so if I buy a $60,000 car, it shouldn't come with tires?
There is no difference between journalism and writing something down. Or, at least there shouldn't be. I'd wager than the +4 comments on slashdot come from people more intellegent than 99% of journalists. Yet they somehow have journalists credibility?
I'd sooner read the comments section of slashdot than another error-riddled BBC technology article.
The Cato Letters were just some guys writing crap down, do you really think the founding fathers wanted THAT illegal?
I was going to go to this high school. It's a dump but there were far more [gang] fights/shootings at the school I ended up going to (North HS), which was literally across the street from the Phoenix Country Club.
Carl Hayden has a nice computer-oriented "magnet" program that attracts a lot of nerds, probably the same that won this competition.
Newt's gaining of power was directly related to the 19% Ross Perot got in 1992.
You going democrat doesn't mean nearly as much as you going off the map. Off the map means they might get you back, democrat means you're in the "Us Vs. Them" mentality and are beyond convincing.
Tactically, everyone should vote 3rd party. the lowest spending increases in 30 years occurred right after the 2nd biggest 3rd party triumph in over 50 years.
You're right, the USA PATRIOT Act, which gave most of this power to law enforcement, was approved under a democratically controlled congress, and written in a large part by Democrats... or do we still blame Bush for that.
Funny, I didn't know the excutive was supposed to write laws...
So I guess they're not Republicans... not all of them, at least.
Each party prides themselves on being more pro civil liberties, but neither is deserving of that praise.
The simple truth is that although computer systems are sold as consumer goods like fridges or washing machines, there's no computer equivalent of a qualified service engineer who you can get to come around and fix things.
The difference between auto mechanics and computer repairmen is that the mechanics have a union which forces licensing on its members to boost the price of labor.
As I said, it's only in 1 part.
It only loads that script file if you request it.
What it then does is allows you to browse the sites' images.
Thus, 135k of the 140k file is just this huge array full of filesnames/paths/info.
50% of people in the US are using broadband, and my site loads in less than a second on ISDN so I'm doing OK.
As a web developer myself, I'm really annoyed when people e-mail me asking for a low graphics format for my page.
My front page is 83k of HTML, 10k of CSS, 20-50k of images, and, in one part, 140k of javascript.
Reformatting the page into some sort of flat format just so people with more money than I can view it on their cells is just not going to happen.
I may think about a RSS feed but if I do it's going to be pretty devoid of content, as I often make extensive use of images, big and small. Many articles have lines like "if you look at this graph here" or "as you can see in the picture."
Am I supposed to rewrite all my content to make it l33t friendly too?
How are web pages supposed to evolve if we keep having to make a dumb-downed version?
which is why i've always wondered why they weren't used in medicine.
While in britain, I saw a show on bbc about maggots and diabetes patients.
Diabetes can, in some cases, cause flesh to die and maybe get infected.
The brits figured out to grow flies in a sterile environment, and use their offspring (maggots) to clean out the open wounds (sometimes it's not even open yet, just dead).
Wounds are packed with maggots and covered in gause, and the patient is set on their marry way, never actually feeling what's going on.
Maggots also sterilize the area when they feed, making the wounds safe from infection.
When there's nothing left to eat (all the dead flesh is gone), the maggots are dug out, the area is swabbed out, and the wound is sewn shut.
My friends work in a warehouse where they resell Compaq and HP parts to companies.
They mainly sell old stuff, almost all of it's used.
There's this company that they currently get most of their inventory from, let's call them company X.
Company X sells used parts too, they just do rigorous testing before they send them to customers, so a lot of it is marked "defective".
When company X marks something "defective", they pay to have it shipped to my friends' company. It's actually cheaper to do that than to recycle the parts, so my friends' company actually pays just a few dollars for a thousand pounds of equipment.
My friends personally go through all of the components, and put them through the extensive refurbishing process of blowing the dust off and inserting them into static bags.
They test it "good enough".. which entails making sure the computer boots up with that RAM and CPU. Maybe a 1 minute memory test on occasion. All in all, about 10% of everything they send out is worthless, and will be sent back by the customer in a week.
The original iMac didn't have Firewire. My friend got one September 1998 (they came out in august). We've been trying to figure out how to add a CD burner ever since.
We all like nostalgia, but after playing NS 2.0 for months and seeing the same exploits being uncovered, I think it's time to move on.
Not like the source engine is much better, but at least SOME of the exploits don't work. My favorite exploit for NS: if you switch to a gun really quickly before entering the commander's chair, you can shoot enemies from a God-like and untouchable position.
I've made quite a few of these things (not for ad purposes).
Like popup windows, it's a shame this feature is used for evil, but they're equally easy to disable. here is an example. Ignore the text inside, and please don't comment on it.
Just find any
tags with position:absolute and display is not "none" and you're golden. Just make it like popup blockers, where you have to instantiate the change from display:none;position:absolute; to display:block;position:absolute AFTER the page loads.
We need better waste management, but wouldn't this be better at a state level? Most states already have recycling programs, couldn't we just throw our old PC into that blue bin and have the states pay for it?
Computers help everyone at least indirectly, and their improper disposal WILL effect everyone directly if it continues. If we have a usury tax on computer waste disposal, I say we do the same for glass bottles.. who needs glass when we have aluminum and plastic? 50 tax on each I says!
Ideally, this type of sanitation is the states' responsibility as it is THEIR landfills that become toxic. I didn't vote against John McCain so he could tax my computer!...
This quasi-libertarian says no usury tax, and you should too.
I think its funny that they always make sure to note that it's an outside company.
You do know that time warner owns CNN, right?

How about an iBrator for the lady in your iLife?
I'm not trying to bash what these guys have done - but isn't plugging it in and then looking at MPG very decieving?
My vehicle gets over a billion miles per gallon, it's called a bicycle.. oh wait
I'm just trying to figure out if this is one of the April fools jokes.
If you're an extremist (left or right), you should expect that eventually you will receive an extreme response.
Why?
I was going to go to this high school. It's a dump but there were far more [gang] fights/shootings at the school I ended up going to (North HS), which was literally across the street from the Phoenix Country Club.

Actually when Jim Jeffords switched to independent in 2001, it became a democratically controlled congress all the way up to 2002.
The house was still Republican IIRC
And the vote was 48-1 in the Senate, Feingold against.
Newt's gaining of power was directly related to the 19% Ross Perot got in 1992.

Coincidence? Not a chance.
These guys aren't Republicans

And you don't even have to take it from me.
*So how did they manage to stretch that out to 100 pages?*
easy. advertise all the nice products from all your nice sponsors.
That's what I was going to say.
Like you really need 100 pages to pick between 5 models.. OK 11 if you count the 3 other iPod Mini colors and different capacities of each model.

They can't open personal letters, can they?
Yes, Yes they can

Yes, let's blame republicans for what is clearly a bipartisan problem.
Let's ignore the votes on the DMCA and the USA Patriot Act and blame the religious right.
On a related note, I just wrote an e-mail to my Senator, John McCain, asking him not to vote for this bill.
If you're complaining about this whole thing and you don't write a letter to your elected officials, you have officially wasted your time.
The overall risk of death was 1.5 times more after the invasion than before.
That also includes the invasion itself. At this rate, eventually it may go down.
