I've been extremely satisfied with the Athlon XP processor line. They perform well and are cheap. I actually wish they wouldn't phase them out. Grab them will you can.

Sure most people just want to click-download-play, but if someone made it easy to take their pvr recordings and allow them to download it to their ipod video, i'm sure they would go for it. That's why I mention the Tivo bit.
If your cheap and have the know how, you could easily setup a mythtv linux box that has a nightly cron job that uses mencoder to convert the video already recorded to a lower resolution . Mpeg2 @ 320x240 or whatever you want.
If you leet and have a DSP background you could create a program to automatically strip out the commercials by analyzing the audio/video stream. Maybe their is software that already does this.
Why pay $1.99 per episode when you can just take the video you saved using Mythtv and download it to your ipod. You could even take out the commercials if you like.
I could see Tivo making out well if they made it easy for ipod video users to sync to their PVR.
All i've seen from Vista is mostly cosmetic. When is Microsoft going to start pushing the envelope and eradicate the concept of windows. They are clumsy and hard to manage. I almost consider windows the equivalent of frames in the html world. Programs interfaces should be contained in a div type concept and presented in a webpage like format. Let the program interfaces flow with each other in order to optimize the screen space. Windows are so wasteful when it comes to optimizing screen space and it puts the burdon on the end user to organize windows. I want to see the line between the web and the desktop bleed together. Represent the desktop as DOM just as you do with html. Let the user customize everything through a javascript type language or through manipulating the DOM tree directly with the mouse. Get rid of the titlebar buttons too because they take too much time to get to.
Here's another concept: remove the start menu. It sucks to move the mouse to the corner of the screen each time to access a new program. In FVWM I have it so I can just right click anywhere have have my programs popup. How about some type of context sensetive mouse menus. These mouse menus should be circular, not linear down and the cursor should lock to the directional arrows pointing to different actions. In this case, if your quick with the mouse, doing things will feel like mouse gestures, but for those who are slow can actually see the menu listing. These menus should be smart to have a basic understanding of what your are trying to accomplish. For instance, when editing a text document there aren't too many things people do with text. Perhaps make it bold, underline, change font size. It is pretty limited and the menu's can adapt to the why people user a certain program. What we need it an intelligent interface.
The goal of all of this is to minimize the amount of time the user is wasting doing trival things and allow the user to be more productive.

I'm waiting for the day that I don't have to mockup pages in SVG using Inkscape, exporting it to the Gimp for slicing, then wrapping css around the slices. I want to be able to go straight from mockup in SVG to final design in SVG.

Someone needs to set standards for ebuilds. I've noticed that ebuilds marked stable are less stable than masked versions. For example, I recently upgraded to the lastest stable version of apache, but when it came time to rebuild mod_php the compile borked. I had to install masked versions of both apache and mod_php just to get the system working again.
In my area there is 1 cable provider, Adelphia, and to get a static ip from them you first need to "upgrade" to a business line which is $99.99 plus pay an additional $20.00 per static ip for 6000/768.
Right now my DSL is $60.00 a month for 6000/768 and it comes with a static ip.
The FCC should start regulating the cable companies and stop worrying about the dsl companies.
How would you rank Microsoft's interoperability with Linux? How has the Linux Lab helped bridge the Windows/Linux worlds? I still find that Microsoft is unwilling to support open standards.

I think everyone is putting too much emphasis on the new IE7 GUI and not even considering if there are any major impovements in supporting W3C standards. This is our chance to push Microsoft to support the web features of 2005. I know people are already jumping on the IE7 bandwagon and leaving firefox/opera but this is not wise.
Microsoft wins if people allow IE7 to be a crippled browser in terms of web development.
Yeah, E17 does something similar. I always found this method to be better. It really helps my wrists and is much more efficient then the kicker. At least Rasterman and company are looking to make the desktop experience easier.
Why would I pay for yesterday's news? The internet and televsion are giving me immediate access to news which makes newspapers somewhat obsolete.
