The whole point of this is to NOT USE THE OS NATIVE UI. It is the web baby. You want to use a web UI library.
Perhaps you meant to use a OS tool to design a web UI but that leads to all other sorts of problems. Plus, if he can do the UI designer of his UI with his UI, then it got to be good.
Would you use a code editor that wasn't coded with itself?
How would a GERMAN point of view in a war game be like. You might say that several all ready did offer you the option to play from the german side, but not on the box cover. Look at the art for games with two sides like the venerable Close Combat series. It is pretty clear who you are supposed to be playing. That you can also optionally play as the germans is just a small side note.
But what is a game like Call of Duty etc had a german theme and worse, did not pretend that the german soldiers did not know what they were fighting for. Notice that most potrayals of symphatetic germans conveniently accepts "ich habe es nicht gewust" for fact. But it was the soldiers who rounded up the undesirables and put them on transport. Who took civilians hostage and executed them.
How would a ww2 game that showed that be received?
Not so good I think.
for that matter, how about a vietnam game in which the americans get to torch houses and kill unarmed women and children? Hell, even make a vietnam war game where the americans are LOOSING. Or a dutch war game about the "police" actions in Indonesia, just to show this is not an anti-america thing.
War games are acceptable as long as they show a clean version of a war with a goodie and a baddie and you are the goodie and the goodie is nothing but good and does nothing a baddie would ever do.
Get a driving game or any other skill/reaction based game. I used Grand Prix Legends. Start driving, give yourself time to adjust to get into a grove. Note your average time and accidents. Don't worry to much about speeding, just about making incident free rounds at the maximum of your capibilty BUT in a race so there is traffic.
Then start drinking. Slowly, alcohol doesn't work instantly. EVEN half a beer will impact your performance.
Anyone with any brains can reason this out. We drink alcohol because it affects our brain. To say alcohol does not affect you is just silly. It would be like saying being dipped into icy cold water does not affect you.
When I see people denying alcohol affects them, even to the extent that 0.8 don't means they are drunk, I see someone who is debating with basic chemistry. What would they argue next, that if their blood has no oxygen they ain't dead?
Really, test it with a game. An objective game in which you can measure a simple statistic but one that reflects the task of driving. Doing something repetitive that you think you can do on auto-pilot but still requires split second reactions when you least expect it. GTA4 come to think of it might be better. Oh and if you hit anything, anything at all, well. Hand in your drivers license.
Have you checked apples figures recently. They are the biggest PC maker in the world. That means they sell a HELL of a lot of PC's and because of OSX nature ALL with EXACTLY the same OS. Dell sells loads of different windows versions, even linux. Apple just OSX. Talk about a mono-culture.
I also see them more and more often in the wild. But they are to small a target.
Tell me this, whose credit card number would you rather have. A Apple users or a Dell users. (Dell user of course, the Apple user spend all his on his Mac:P)
If I mow your lawn, then I get paid for mowing it and that is the end of it. A lot of jobs are like that. But not all. If I am your firefighter, I get paid each day, even if there are no fires. The day a fire breaks out and you need it controlled, you don't pay me anymore then you have done each day.
Doctors and such are slightly different as well, you don't just pay them for labor and material, you pay them for the cost they went through to get that education that made them a doctor. So their salary is not just the salary right now, but the salary they missed out on during their student years.
If I pay an engineer, I don't just pay him for the job right now, but for the ensurance that his work will continue to be solid long after the work has finished.
An actor I pay not just for the performance tonight, but for all the excersises.
A bus I pay not just for the overcrowded bus he is driving right now, but for all the empty ones in the off hours.
My rent for a house is not the total cost of the house, rather it is the cost of the house being build payed over several years.
AND THAT BRING US TO AUTHORS. The years of copyright are there because an author does NOT get paid his salary when he completes the book. Rather each book sold carries with it a small portion of his fee. In the days before current copyright an author was payed upon completion by the publisher and all sales after that belonged to the publisher. This is EXTREMELY risky for the publisher and easily leads to only those books being written for which someone is willing to pay the author his fee at completion or even during writing itself. Not all authors can work that way and if you value diversity neither would you want them all to work that way.
An author writes a book, then has to recover his salary he missed out on from the sales, sales that will NOT be instant on the day of publication. Do you really want books that might sell only 100 copies on day one to have to pay the author in full from their price? And then what reason would the author have to continue sales? That is the reason for copyright, to allow a content creator a period of time to recoup the costs of producing the material.
Copyright is no different from the rights of ownership that allow you to build a house and then rent if out over several years to recoup your costs and make a profit. If you want to get rid of it, it means the end of a lot of basic ways of doing business.
I myself have no problem with copyright (within reason), what my beef is with the RIAA/MPAA and the likes is that they wish to maintain their own roles of distrubtors/copiers and charge insane amounts of money for it while the content creators get peanuts.
Say a song writer charges 2 euro for a song, I got no problem with that. But if the RIAA charges that, it means the songwriter might end up with a nickle if lucky. THAT is the problem. Same with iTunes. If all the middle man were cut out the songs could sell for less and the artist get more. Win-Win, except for the leeches in the middle.
THAT is my problem with the current system, not the original idea of copyright. That is an essential if we want to allow content creators to make money from their work other then through a direct instant fee upon completion. If you want to be able to rent, you got to support propertly laws that allow this. And if you don't want to pay 20.000 for a book on compression, then you need to support copyright that doesn't mean this author has to look to single buyer for his work.
1. How do you explain that IE8 is the youngest of the non-beta's and the slowest.
2. Why is it then that IE has more problems with standards? Does it check so much for broken html/css/javascript it can't even deal with standard compliant code? Oh and then explain how a trailing , in javascript FAILS under IE but not firefox.
3. So, IE8 has more features then firefox...
Something tells me you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Did you ever actually use any other browser then the one that came with your Dell?
You think people drive their car less in europe? You are funny. Even with the very high oil prices last year public transport STILL cost more and its prices increased more then taking a car. Also the sales of SUV's and the like only increased.
I travel by public transport and pass by Utrecht Central Station. It has various eateries, from healthy to McD/Burger King. Price for a McD basic hamburger, 1euro. Price of a natural bagle with cream chease. 2,95. Both satisfy my hunger, but what about my thirst? 1 euro for a soft drink, 3 euro for a fruit shake. If I am buy a meal it is 2 bagles and 1 fruit juice , nearly 10 euro's or 2 hamburder and a soda for 3 euro.
I am making a decent salary but also got expenses.
Now imagine a tax which made the hamburger cost 3 euro and lowered the sales tax on healthy foor dropping its price to 2,50. A LOT easier to remain healthy.
Doubt it will work this way, but still, if you got to tax something, then tax something I want to cut down on buying anyway.
So go for it I say. It means the end of the month won't see me stuffing myself with more fat then is good for me.
The really shocking things isn't so much that the powers that be are corrupt, but how cheaply they sell themselves for. Even Obama. Raised millions from ordinary citizens and still sells out to big business for little more then some spare change.
Just as the x-box was outclassed by the pc's of that era, so the current generation is outclassed by PC's.
People always look at the specs of a console when it is announced, look at their office dell and think WOW! Then a couple of years later when the console is out, they still have that impression but Intel/Amd and nVidia/Ati have moved on. Go ahead, show me how 512mb TOTAL memory compares to a very low powered PC with 2gig and 512mb graphics memory. It is the reason GTA4 has very nice graphics, but still cars that disappear when they are out of sight or pop-up and crash as you round the corner. All the consoles memory is used up by the graphics leaving no room to for instance keep all the cars/pedestrains in memory.
It is the reason MMORPG's don't happen on the console. GTA4 gives you a small selection of cars that appear at one time, but an MMO can't do that. Any texture, any model could be worn by any player and they can appear at random. It is the reason MMORPG's are the memory hogs they are. There is little that can be done about it. Sure, lower the graphics resolution, but that just means you got nasty pictures.
Any cross platform game will be limited by the lowest machine and the consoles are the lowest. Morrowind proved this in extreme. The original game suffered from bad loading on a PC even thought hardly any memory was used. Once the PC only expansion was released, the engine was changed to use all available memory and gone was the loading.
Thief3, Deus Ex2, the entire GTA series are good examples of how the limited memory of consoles restrict game designers in making truly large worlds.
Why do you think there is no WoW on the consoles? Because Blizzard doesn't want any more customers?
In the netherlands there was an attack by someone on the queen during a national holiday. He did it by driving a his suzuki swift into a crowd killing several people. AND HIMSELF. His death was well reported in the media.
Yet some people are sending hate mail to a person whose picture was linked to the attacker by a newspaper and othe rpeople with similar names are receiving threaths. HELLO! The guy is DEATH! The moment your hate target answers the phone, and he answers, shouldn't that be a major clue that you got the wrong guy?
No matter what you do, even if you forced newspapers to follow-up or print the complete truth for once, you could never eradicate the idiots.
Most tv of that era that wasn't complete trash was shot on 35 mm film. Not super quality perhaps but far higher then what tv of the era was capable off. So yes, if they still got the original material a high quality copy could me made. As has been done with lots of other film material.
The GP might be a trekkie, but the parent is a twit who mouths off about stuff he has no knowledge about.
We get a totally unstubstantiated rumor and then that is speculated upon by what would be a even more unlikely.
Apple buying EA. Okay, the idea behind that would make some sense. After all MS has been selling of its gaming companies and Sony is doing so well owning both hardware and media... on which note, what idiot then goes on to claim buying Warner is a better idea? Because it is cheaper? EA would give Apple games for its hardware, of course EA already puts a lot of its games on the mac so the advantage is not that great but still. But what would be gained by owning a music company? Does it help Sony sell PS3's? Nope.
Speculation is fun, but try to at least think of a reason why Apple should buy something. A better reason then because it is cheaper then buying something else.
Well, 3G netbooks are pretty common and you can indeed buy some tele plans with a netbook for free. Oddly enough, often ones without a 3G modem. I on the other hand bought my acer one with 3G just from a shop for 259 euro.
So what exactly is the problem? Only an idiotic laptop company is going to make their new laptop exclusive to a telecom. Phones, yes, they need a telecom. PC's don't.
Sorry, no. It wasn't. It was FIRST supposed to be a PC shooter with a Mac client as well. NO x-box. That was in fact the reason Halo was seriously delayed, because MS insisted they suddenly re-develop the product to fit on the X-box. A major task as the x-box even at its peak was seriously underpowered compared to a PC.
But hey, not only do you get the facts wrong. You also then still make excuses because Mac isn't that big a market and you handily skip the fact that the PC version was shipped ages later despite it being originally a PC project.
Fanboyism, you are doing it right.

Just who is its audience?
Remember the mini? Talking about a car here. It was a very cheap model, tiny but because of its price and low operating costs it had a market. Then it was re-invented and the result was a very small, expensive car, expensive to maintain.
Basically, the designers of the new car ignored the audience that bought the original for its cheap price and instead aimed for another audience that over time either bought the mini to vamp it up or as a status symbol. It worked, to a degree. The new mini is NOT the same hit the original was. Same happened with the CV2 or ugly duckling.
Re-invent your product for a new audience and you risk alienating the old.
Star Trek has been re-invented so many times the last and the first series have nothing in common. No true TOS fan can love TNG. TNG can be accepted as its own series with its own values, but it ain't trek. The entire atmosphere is different. TOS is humanity exploring a universe as yet unknown in which they are far from the most powerful race even on board their own ship. They rarely if ever return home. TNG the federation is a near absolute power and humanity is sold as being beyond all its past troubles. It is now the care taker of the universe and decides what is right or wrong. No doubt for picard, no grey areas, no bending the rules. When danger happens he has enough power to be able to hold a converence about the issue. It is the United Nations rather then a frontier man.
The rest of the series, well. TOS has the first interracial kiss on american tv. What exactly was Enterprises claim to fame? An intro that neatly skipped other countries contribution to space exploration and proof that it is cold in space.
But each series has it fans, even each movie.
But this review seems to think that the special effects being perfect, the acting, the music matters to a TOS fan. They don't. We didn't like TOS because of its amazing special effects, or because Shatner is such a wonderful actor or its amazingly varied music or whatever, we became fans because it showed us a future that was more then just anger, despair and fear.
Perhaps later series never really stood a chance either. By the time TNG came around the world had changed. It was very much a show of its age. The US near all powerfull and invulnerable, able to decide what treaties to follow and what not.
It leaves TOS as a unique series, not because of its qualities but of the note it struck in those who watched it. They who complain about Shatners acting ability or rubber suited monsters just don't get it. They see a wobbly ashtray when they don't smoke, we see a gift from our child and the love that is in it.

Kirk would break the rules if they needed to be broken and was willing to admit when humanity was the less advanced, the less civilized. Granted, a lot of this was in later material but still.
Picard on the other hand was always right and the rules were everything. Also intresting to note, Spock/Vulcans were in many ways the superior race in TOS. This was comepletly lost in TNG. All human with only a half human and a human robot thrown in. Lesser racial mix with it being very clear that all the TNG crew was from north america or europe.
Germany was a small country fighting the whole world. They lost not so much because blitzkrieg wasn't a valid tactic but because it is hard to win a battle when you fight a million soldiers and the enemy has a million in reserve.
But in this case, it is IBM who is the giant. So if you want to compare things, this is the D-day landings by the free-world/IBM vs the much beleagured Nazi's/Sun who is fighting to many battles on to many fronts and who just can't keep up with the tech race.
Analogies, you really shouldn't stretch them to far or they turn against you.

No, TNG was TOS-light.
America was its own country, long before it was invaded by europeans. History, those who do not know it somehow keep on repeating it.
In holland, speed limits HAVE been re-adjusted several times. Raised to 120 a while ago, and then adjusted again to suit local circumstances.
Drugs laws? Well they to have changed as the times have changed.
Your argument, it is made of fail and lose.
