So, the fans of it imported the game on imported consoles to such an extent that Sega decided to release it in the west. With cut content, because it would have taken to long to "translate"... talk about adding insult to injury, many fans bought BOTH copies just to show their support and then get told that large parts are apparently not worth it for Sega to spend money on translating despite charging the same full price for the result.

Of course, how the internet routes things is not set in stone and for big sites there are plenty of alternative routes, just hit google and you are likely to get a different ip each time with a ttl of 60 seconds. Of course smaller sites might have a more static route... for 1 user. In a country with different ISP's and multiple connections to the outside world, traffic might come in to the site from a number of directions.
This "idea" relies on a router to be present on all the routes that intercepts ALL traffic, parses it and sends it on to one destination or the other...
How do you get so many ISP's to do this violating every rule of the internet in the process?Just imagine if some ISP really did do this, send a request on to another destination then requested...

This guy committed a crime, purely and for nothing else then to gain a big pile of cash over a long period. There is nothing to have your heart bleed over in this story. For that matter, why is it even on slashdot. Career criminal gets sentenced to a fairly short jail sentence (10 years - time served - good behavior - etc etc) he will be out in a couple of year. Which means he pays with a couple years of his live for a salary most of us will never earn. His gamble, his price to pay.
If you want to make the world a fairer place, go after the ones that got away without punishment, don't set the guilty free. But then, no doubt if one of those CEO's you talk about actually did get convicted you find something else to cry about.

They have created a program that allows the writing of javascript in java... why not just code in javascript direct? Because then you wouldn't be using java. Note that some java fans will now claim that you can't write certain thing in javascript... this shows a lot about those people. If you can have a java compiler turn out java things in javascript then a human can BUT maybe you REALLY should be just using the language the way it is supposed to be.

I played text only games when text was the only option. Done the "remember every character" thing and then Doom came along and for the first time you didn't need to study the manual or even read it to make your way through the game. And I never looked back.
Now I have tried Dwarf Fortress and the retro ain't just the graphics. The fans will find excuses but the game is just to unwieldly and even crashes to be fun anymore. The entire idea behind all of Dubai's development from a western point of view was to gain a tax paradise to avoid paying taxes made on money "earned" in the west. I have had dealing with Dubai myself and the culture there is very intresting, they got ZERO local knowledge, even simple knowledge on how to spend money. The content industry after decades is still in a childish state. Take Nintendo and Sony, both of them just reversed their region encoding. The 3DS uses region blocking, the new PSP won't. WTF! Surely by now you expect a standard approach to have been proven the most viable and to be used? But no, content companies keep flip-flopping around on whether a piece of content should simply be available at the same time around the globe or not.
Yakuza is a good game series from Japan, you might compare it to GTA but instead of the distopian world where you are on a race to the bottom meeting every low life on the way, you take care of orphans and beat the crap out of criminals to get them back on the correct path. The Yakuza title is of course a western mis-nomer since you are an EX-yakuza member. So, the fans of it imported the game on imported consoles to such an extent that Sega decided to release it in the west. With cut content, because it would have taken to long to "translate"... talk about adding insult to injury, many fans bought BOTH copies just to show their support and then get told that large parts are apparently not worth it for Sega to spend money on translating despite charging the same full price for the result.
It is not the cut content itself that makes my bile rise, it is the amateurish approach to game development that does not simply see an English translation as a standard part of development in Japan. Do it from the start and it costs peanuts since you won't have to listen to every word spoken but can do it right from the script and the translation is build right into the game itself from the get go.
Mind you, I suppose I shouldn't be suprised. If you see some of the kludges that are pulled to make normal cars suitable for driving in leftish places like England you just got to accept a lot of creators can't think two steps ahead.
It is a global world, if I hear on say slashdot about a new piece of content and I can't buy it... I will download it. I downloaded episodes of Enterprise before they had even aired in the US and long before they were ever aired in the EU... so okay, they sucked but still, if you want to SELL me something, you got to make it available to me.

Painting buildings white to reflect heat is hardly a new idea. In some areas heat was not a major issue so we used black roofing material and just put up with the occasional heat. Now that AC has become mainstream, it is an issue because we no longer put up with some heat during the summer but still forget to build our buildings to keep out the heat. This "idea" relies on the fact that internet traffic is routed through several places on its way. They idea is that on one of these ways, the traffic will be read and if a magic bit is detected, it will re-route this traffic to somewhere else, making it possible to do a request for google.com with a magic bit set (which I can only presume is some magic bit that won't be bloody obvious for not fitting in the very well define protocol for http... oh https... you are doing a google.com request through https, no, that is not going to send up any red flags) and instead get the result from slashdot.org.
Of course, how the internet routes things is not set in stone and for big sites there are plenty of alternative routes, just hit google and you are likely to get a different ip each time with a ttl of 60 seconds. Of course smaller sites might have a more static route... for 1 user. In a country with different ISP's and multiple connections to the outside world, traffic might come in to the site from a number of directions.
This "idea" relies on a router to be present on all the routes that intercepts ALL traffic, parses it and sends it on to one destination or the other...
How do you get so many ISP's to do this violating every rule of the internet in the process?Just imagine if some ISP really did do this, send a request on to another destination then requested...
