This is what I've been saying to customers for years already. When they're buying a pc, it doesn't matter if you can watch DVD on your PC, if you want to watch dvd's buy a dvd-player for under your tv-set. Same with games, if you want to be able to just buy a game and play it. Buy a console, it'll take so much hassle out of your game buying, it's great.
I can't count the number of times people asked me 'can i run this game on my pc'...
As to the depth and reach of pc-games vs -console-games, it is clear that, with the lack of innovation in current pc gaming and the upcoming next-gen consoles, consoles will be able to do more or at least just as much as the current PC games.
Not to mention M$'s new XNA initiative which will unify the PC/XBOX dev architecture. Porting games will be even easier.
I remember A List Apart did an 'Extreme Makeover' on our beloved frontpage, wondering wether we'll ever get to see it happen! (must be a hell-uv-a job...)
Is it just my impression, Hotmail/MSN is down completely here. Did MS forget to patch their own servers or are they suffering under the network pressure?
Your system wasn't patched because the OS that came with your laptop was put on there months and months before you first booted it... Completely installed and ready to use (Except for that nasty activation thingy...)
I think it 'd be a good idea if OEMs release updated restore/install cd's to their retailers every other month or so (either downloadable, or their usual distribution channels), and slipstreaming, or otherwise incorporating security-fixes.
Retailers would have to use the restore/install on every pc they sold during that month, guaranteeing that the OS would be up-to-date(tm)
((Maybe AOL could put a monthly bunch of patches on their cd's))
One of the reasons why it takes MS so long to come up with a downloadable patch is because the regression testing they have to do prior to releasing the patch. Not patching a system because you want to test it for compatibility issues first is certainly valid, yet, you can be sure that the patches have been tested to a certain degree.
I didn't have any problems, systems are patched and the firewall keeps a firm lid on the network.
Already happened. A chemical company fined for environmental spills, just wrote it off as a tax deduct, so in the end the taxpayer ended up paying the fine.
Last fridaynight I wanted to install FireWire card into my box. I got it off a friend, something he had lying around since his last rebuild. No drivers no instructions, just the shiny Pinnacle card. So I meticously (sp?) noted all the lettering on the card and version numbers for my driver hunt that was sure to come. But lo and behold, I installed the card rebooted... Sure W2K noticed the card. Better yet, identified it. Installation time? 2 minutes worth of opening case, plugging in card, closing case reconnecting, rebooting.
That's impressive! Something I wouldn't be able to do on Linux, not because Linux isn't capable of using the card or anything like that, it's just too much work. I too want to use Linux, and I will... someday.
ow for sure... and it is considered normal to have a doofus running the country who was convicted of drunk driving (sure, killing someone isn't as serious a downloading the latest titney spears blurt) and probably is a felon himself (and a drunk to boot)
get your head out of your asses and do something about it!
That's why I like the Ghost/DriveImage software so much, if they don't want to pay the $65 It will only take me like 10 minutes to restore the p*s machine.
I can understand that my mother who can read only a bit of english, clicks on things to get them going. But when you can read all the stuff an installer spits at you, you'll know when somethings kosher or not.
Funnily enough, mom's pc still hasn't had a single problem:)
Okay, I'm also being touch-and-cheek but I think the Rule of Porn mostly works. Can you use Google for porn? Yep, must be a good technology. Can you use faster Internet access for porn? Yep... and so on.
Can you use DRM on porn...... must be a good tech then.
I installed (w98/micro) without IE on a P120 (old hardware for sure...) and set up ThunderFireBirdFox to use an IE icon with an IE theme. sure it's blasphemy but they won't notice.
"Apple does not return your iPod when it replaces the battery; it sends a refurbished model instead. For $68, pdasmart.com will install a third-party battery and give you your iPod back."
So what if yours was engraved? Does AppleCare at least send you a refurbished iPod with your own backplate.

that reminds us of wat can be done with relatively low-spec systems, and that SO MUCH MORE could be done with current processing power.
but of course, hardware being so diverse as it is, programming for 1 platform just isn't feasable any longer
before Apple sues LinSpire over their website design?
Quite funny :)
I noticed that Blogger has done a complete redesign using standards (backed by many of the Big Names in the buzzing site-design industry, including my favourite)

Set up an account to only receive mails from the lists you joined. Junk everything else.

I did the same thing... only the pc is waay to slow for Moz/Fox.
If you want to eradicate IE form your windos install, use 98lite
It just so happens that Cork Ireland has one of the biggest factories of 'm all, not to mention the AMD plants in Germany
same here!

Can you use DRM on porn...
not to mention the VHS/Video2000 thing (two competing standards for home video usage)
VHS pretty much won out on the (IANA-Expert) superior Video2000-format, due to the large number of porn video's already available on VHS...

I don't mean to bitch, but did the editor even look twice before posting this? Web Basec ...
Anyway I think the question has been answerred pretty much by current posts.
(sure it's redundant...)
or rebooted windows
yeah i know, redundant, but i had to say it...
So wouldn't it be nice to have it play OGG as well, there being no license fees involved with OGG?
