    Having used both B&D and DeWalt tools I can say that the difference is more than just the casing and color - DeWalt tools are built MUCH better than the cheaper B&D couterpart. If you're a only using the tools a few hours a year its not a big deal, all day long its a huge difference. The main reason Black and Decker tools are not used by professionals is because in the long run, its less expensive to have a quality tool that lasts and performs well.

    But in windows, can you restore the windows back to their original location? And, can you tile all application Windows? I honestly don't know the answer to these, but this is eactly what expose does. For me, expose works great

    So you would use an inferior product just be different? While I can somewhat understand this, its hard to justify with an expensive item (e.g., car). What if the Saab was less safe? Would you still drive it? What if it was a lot more than the "typical" cars?

    Diversity is great, but being different just for the sake of being different is pretty superficial if you ask me. Its nothing but another reason to think you are better than someone just because you are cool enough to be different. Conforming isn't always bad, especially if that which you conform to is truely the best.

    I use a mac because it works the best for what I want to do. I play no games and have little remaining interest in messing around with getting things to work. Assuming you use a mac, would you still use one if Apple had over half the market?

    My guess is that it was people confusing "Pentium 4" with "4 Pentiums" - just a little difference in meaning.

    I remember being told once by a company that built the keyboards for terminals in airports that they purposely make the keyboards slightly different from standard the qwerty so that it slows users down and gets more money (connections are charged per minute generally). bastards.

    You comment makes me wonder whether visually impaired users are more or less vunerable to phishing/spoofing/etc? Do text-to-speach engines read the URL or the text for links?

    Also (and somewhat related) I wonder how popular online banking is with the blind. I personally think I would prefer phone banking to internet, but my vision if fine so it is just a guess.

    Sometimes I forget how much I take for granted.

    For the most part I agree with you. All those foolish hot-keys (or whatever they are called) to launch email, web, etc are a complete waste. However, I find split keyboards to be pretty great -- I really wish that I could get a drop in replacement for my powerbook that was somehow split.

    unless your code is in assembly...

    ...or work on any real-time system. Ever use a DSP (the processor not the theory)? Ever seen code from someone who only writes for PCs and does not have any significant hardware background? Why use a DMA to push around data when the processor is completely capable?

    I disagree, an onion/garlic/etc board is absolutely necessary. Have you ever had slices of apple that task like onion? Even a carrot with that onion flavor is offensive to people (like my wife) who dislike the taste of raw onions.

    A fish board is good to have too.

    Glass would likely dull your knives very quickly -- that is why you are not supposed to cut food on a ceramic plate. I hated plastic cutting boards until my wife pointed out we can just thrown them into the dishwasher -- I assume that this gets them reasonably clean and doesn't force me to only cut onion on the special onion board.

    Right, like Motorola:

    After changing the company name to Motorola in the 1940's, Motorola has only been able to make car radios.

    I would "uninstall" it, but embarrasingly enough, I don't know how to uninstall programs in O S X.

    its pretty easy to just keep ziping the files over and over until the result gets small enough -- even for large files (CD image or something) 5 times is generally enough for my needs.

    a lot of people use google as a sort of bookmarks page(with keywords they remember)

    I didn't even realize that I did this until I read your post. Not that anyone cares, but I only have 4 or 5 regular bookmarks; the rest of the pages I need to goto I either a) remember because the url is so easy or i go there so much (e.g., slashdot, orderyourrussianwife.com, etc) b) do a search for them as needed (e.g. martin vetterli's homepage), or c) use the url auto-complete in the browser.

    For most users the current crop of machines have more than enough computing power. I would rather have a small computer with enough (or a little more) power than I need than a monster box with 5x more features than I could ever use. Maybe thats just me though, my car only has a 4 cylinder engine (but 2 cams! woo hoo).
