  1. Re:Need clarification on India Launches World's First Stereo Imaging Satellite · · Score: 1

Don't want to start a flame war but this is plain misinformation. The 2 Indian states having a Christian majority are not the results of US evangelical christians. Not many know that Christianity has been flourishing in Inda since the year 52 AD even before the western nations had heard of Christ. It began with the arrival of St Thomas(yes, the doubting disciple of Christ). Also let it be known that these states are the ones that now provide for the majority of Roman Catholic priests a tribe which is facing a crunch in numbers in the first world. Many people, including indians, wrongly believe that Christainity started with the British colonial rule. These beliefs are all the more exploited by policital parties which have no developement agenda and just want to grab power. And it is true India does not receive aid from the US. It rejected the US offer for help during the tsunami crisis.

I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't redesign their product to focus on 3 things: the kernel, the GUI, and the rest of the apps they ship with Windows.

The other thing they need to do is stop integrating software into the OS. I can't stress this enough. I don't want to have to worry about my entire OS being vulnerable because IE has been integrated into every possible aspect of my GUI. Keep it simple, keep it segmented in modules

They consiously took that decision. In a way good for Linux .
And if you keep it simple how do the marketing guys tell you that its great stuff and that it can do this and that, blah blah.
Let them do their stuff. Let the Open source folks learn from their mistakes. Then may be some one will have write a book 'How not to write OS and programs' Then it can be renamed LongGone

Then would a linux distribution coming from MS be as reliable as the ones coming from say RedHat or Suse.? When MS is not able to manage it own windows releases properly (news of SP breaking compatibily or applications is not uncommon) can it swallow its ego and cooperate with Open Source developers? And more importantly, will Open Source developers be keen to support MS especially when MS has been trying to stifle Open source development spreading all kinds of FUD about open source.

All the more happy, just like many others out there, that Windows is being shown the door. Beleive it or not, the Open Source champions in India owe a lot of thanks to Bill Gates for this. If he hadn't come to India to make a publicity stunt of supporting the AIDS cause( ofcourse he is more worried about Linux than AIDS ) Linux would not have got so much attention in govt. circles and media as it does now. A few months ago any ordinary business man would know and talk only abt MS and Windows. Now he knows about Linux also. Now whenever the media talks MS it talks about Linux in the same breath.
