Too bad Ford isn't actually using any of this hard work.
Too bad is right. Some fun facts to know and tell:
* Ford currently gets LESS gas milage now on it's 25th aniversary than it did with the original Model-T. Model-T got 25 mpg. New Explorer gets 16. You don't even WANT to know what the Excursion and Expedition get.

* According to the 2002 Highway Safety Insurance reports: You are significantly MORE likely to get into an accident (i.e. unable to detect or avoid an impending accident) if you drive an SUV.
You are significantly MORE likely to DIE in an accident if you are in an SUV. The fatality rate per 1000 vehicle accidents was much higher for SUV occupants than it was for car occupants. The main reason for this is that the rigid ladder frame of most domestic SUV's will not absorb any of the impact (i.e. crumple up), thereby transfering all of the impact force to the occupants, which equals massive internal organ damage for you.
When I was a boy, we did our rendering calculations by hand. A pencil, lots of paper, and we liked it! These kids today and their fancy calculating machines.... bah, humbug.
Pen and paper? What sort of heresy is this? We used stone tablets to do our rendering on... Until Moses came along and smashed them. What is it with him and smashing tablets anyways?
Mandating the use of OSS for an organization as large as a national level government is good.
Another idea that would be equally as good (IMO) and would also rustle less feathers (at least here in the US) would be to mandate the use of Open file formats. I.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, to name a few, are no longer acceptable formats.
Open file formats would allow the use of any conforming software at each region/department/agency while maintaining compatability with the rest.
It would also level the playing field and allow die hard microsoft fans to see the true power and flexibility of Linux without being blinded by this file format "gotcha" which still plagues Windows to Linux migrations.
I think this IT agism depends on what area of IT you are in.
For example, I am in enterprise storage (think Hitachi HDS, IBM Shark, EMC Symmetrix, Compaq/HP StorageWorks, etc.). My last two jobs I've had, I've been the "baby" of the group since everyone else was 40+ years old. And I have 5 years experience in enterprise storage.
The mainframe folks are crusty old farts also, and telco people seem to be as well.
But I have no doubt that when it comes to sysadmin or coding, that cheaper, younger labor is preferred these days.
This thing is a farm implement. It's a high-quality farm implement, and I admire his work ethic, but it's still a farm implement.
I think that this compares to (in appearance anyways) to those silly rice boys who take a honda civic and lower it and put on a big wing and muffler and wacky paint job.
The term to describe this look is the "angry kitchen appliance" look.
9/11 : The indignation being the ultimate indication - of American arrogance.
You ignorant fuck. If you blame 9/11 on your so called "american arrogance" then you deserve to die like all the other raghead muslim terrorist fucks out there.
It is truly a sick and twisted world when one can take the anger and violence that is inherent in the Islamic sects and blame it on thousands of innocent civilans which they murdered in cold blood.
I think that these esoteric skills/arts are attractive to geeks because we tend to be the "do-it-yourself" type. e.g. rather than use the "pre-fab" MS Windows, we "rolled our own" OS.
Personally I'm very into metalworking (specifically welding and have an interest in processes like forging). I also am into brewing my own beer. I'm a big VW/Audi/Porsche nut as well and consider myself a rather accomplished mechanic working on these makes as a hobby.
I feel just as comfortable compiling my own kernel as I do changing a clutch disc or brewing an ale.
Load a virtual world into the hard-drives, attach to brains of populace to turn them into human batteries! Oh, nevermind, that's a really stupid idea, who would believe that?
Yeah, and we could take all these internet attached minions, yeah, and make them write code... yeah... and we can turn it into an operating system and call it linux or something...
from the article: ""It could induce a certain amount of queuing due to excess browsing on the part of users," Kay said. To address this problem, the iLoo will be outfitted with a plasma display and waterproof keyboard outside the box, so that those waiting in line can check their Hotmail accounts."
Wonder if the two terminals are loaded with Netmeeting?;-)
Oh yeah... and the obligatory "Imagine a beowulf cluster of these!".
Despite the natural reaction to such a thread (I mean who doesn't want to bash the recording industry?) the fact of the matter is that studios are still very expensive.
Bullshit. Take an $18 music CD. Multiply by 4 million copies sold (which isnt THAT many, relatively speaking). That's $72 Million. The artist will see about $175,000 of that, a couple bucks more gets eaten by the actual cost of manufacturing and selling the CD's, and the remaining $71 Million goes into the pockets of the RIAA. That's the way it works and it's total bullshit.
I'm still waiting for the price of a new music CD to drop to $7 or $8. The RIAA did make this promise when CD's first came out, citing the high cost of the then-new technology. "Once CD technology becomes ubiquitous and commonplace, the price of manufacturing CD's will drop dramatically, and the savings will get passed to the consumer!".
That's why the RIAA is a bunch of money-grubbing bastards.

Have fun in your Ford SUV's everyone!
. power units, fans, floppy drives, switches ... floppy drives?
;-)
Ever tried putting a swap file on a floppy drive?
Ok, so I get REALLY bored sometimes.

Just my 2 cents.
I hope the Laos Government is getting totally screwed. Laos's government is one of the sixteen Most Repressive Regimes on Earth.
Amen brotha. God willing, one day all repressive regimes will end up like the Saddam regime - blown to bits.
Six months of unemployment...
;-)
You skipped a step.
"Find a New Job" comes before "Take this job and shove it".
Thank you for posting this clarification. Yes, my post uses this definition of the word "rice boys".
It has nothing to do with the ethnicity or national origin of the person.
Imagine a beowulf cluster of these!!
;-)
And manafacturers, how about a sticker warning "DEATH MAY BE IMMENENT IF OPENED,"
;-)
They should put that label on cans of Campbell's chunky beef soup. That stuff is horrible.

Fags and Muslims are sinners!!
In Soviet Russia, Linus sues SCO!
This is news for REAL nerds. I mean, who cares if you can fit Windows 98 into a flash memory card? ;-)

nah... who would believe such a thing?
well-known businessman: Mr. Sam Wal-Mart.
FYI His last name is Walton. And only rednecks shop there anyways.
What is it that keeps such an old platform going?
;-)
What, you've never opened one up before? It's a hampster running in a little wheel.

And here I thought that noise was Bill Gates breaking wind.
