What would you call it if they had just provided in their advisory a publically-accessible link from which to download the patch? "ultra-easy"? How about running "apt-get upgrade"? "hyper-easy"?
No, they are now respectively called HIGH-EASY and FULL-EASY.
No shit! I had one too for a few years. The odometer RESET TO ZERO since it only has 5 digits (exluding the 1/10-mile one) and the car hit 100,000:) It now has 114,000 and still running, but the compression on the cylinders is going and only one good cylinder remains. Poor thing. New Altima comming soon but sad to see the Geo Metro go! Awesome car. It's bright blue, so everyone calls it the "Smurfmobile". Come to think of it, not TOO sad to see it go:)
Yeah, you're 100% right. I think the problem is we need a compromise. I think the loss of "browsing" to save the system (if infact the lack of browsing will do just that) is necessary. 80% functionality is better than 0%. But yeah, I loved browsing other people's PC's too. Just fun to see what's on and also run into indie music I never would have otherwise.
Well, it IS true in the fact that it blocks a known range of RIAA and other "bad" IP's. However, do you really think they wouldn't use random, seperate IP's to do their dirty work? I don't think the "music-searchin-lawsuit-makin" box is sitting next to their Exchange Server. They do have the cash to get some techies who know how to read ZeroPaid and Slashdot and I'm sure the "music-searchin-lawsuit-makin" box is on a completely different class C ip, or even random cable/dsl modems accross the country. Why not? THat's what I would do (uhg, feels dirty to even think like them for a second). That said, the new Kazaalite features are an ok, simple start to something good I guess.
The new feature that blocks users from seeing ALL files, however, is VERY smart. All 50 million users (pulled that number out of thin air, should be close) now appear to be sharing only the ONE file you searched for. Makes hiding in the sea of users fruitful.*
Yes, this is true. No money "on the books." A perfect "end".
But do you really think TIA will really end? The project will simply go, as they call it, "Dark". When the F-117 was being made, in a project called, I believe, "Deep Blue" do you think money that was on the books was used? No. TIA will "die" in the public, because the project is going dark. End of story. The website will remain the scrappy little inocent bits of HTML it is today, meanwhile under a lake somewhere will be a cluster of computers that are running TIA at full speed.
Use "Adblock" in Firebird or "Bannerblind" in Mozilla. And have all popup's blocked too. Guess what? You are now looking at relevant info, NO adds whatsoever and NO popups. Clean web browsing. Do this for a month, then try using IE on another computer one day and you will feel sick with ad-nauseum. Whenever I see a screen of the web with normal IE it amazes me, because I forget just how full the web is with crap ads all over. Block them and you start focusing on relevant data.
Much like dialing a wrong number, what if I meant to send an e-mail to a customer about a new product to JOHNSMITH@SOMETHING.COM and I mistakenly send just the one e-mail to JOHNSMITT@SOMETHING.COM
Am I now going to be fined thousands of dollars because of ONE wrong e-mail?
To anyone who thinks video games should be banned, I ask this question: If the kids were inspired to kill by characters in a book, should we then ban books?
What about TV? Movies? Magazines? Where does it end?
haven't seen anyone mention this, but I realized the other day that since Jaguar is fully 32-bit, you should be able to take 64-bit hardware and run two full instances of Jaguar on it in parallel.
And I would like to know: Is that FULL SPEED 32bit or HIGH SPEED 32 bit?
As my dry, sarcastic humor sometimes falls victim to moderators who can't laugh, I just wanted to tell you that I WAS JOKING. Some people don't get it I guess. Sheeesh.
Running BSD in a way right now on my OSX boxen. Luv it.:) Anyway, that's all. Later.
Thanks for the math. Cause thinking about it now, if you really are putting in a "serious" home network, I've gotta thing print servers, seperate firewall box, mini-lan parties and music/divx/etc flying all over from drive to drive. Wired would be the way to go and it's much cheaper like you said. Although I really thing the time/cost of doing the cable drop, in my mind, would be high. Cable drops not fun. Poking holes in walls less fun. Especially for renters, but that's drifiting away from the intent of the story.
What about gigabit? I don't remember seeing that in the article. Practicle for the home network? Apple laptops and a few dells I think come with Gigabit. Mmmmm. Fast pr0n.:)
Someone should have thrown these people a link before they dug up some walls.

In all seriousness, not to sound "640k is enough..." but why not just go wireless for a home network? IF you have the sw security in place, what's the need for all the speed? Wouldn't an 802.11g setup be enough for downloads, gaming, vnc, p2p, whatever? Seems a lot easier than doing cable drops unless you want to stream DVD's. Wouldn't Divx streaming be fine at 802.11g speed too!?!
Just grab the GLX and Kernel [4363 is latest] tar.gz's. Unpack them, export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=true. go into the Kernel directory, make, go into the GLX directory, make, go into/etc/X11, edit XF86CONFIG-4 [e.g. remove dri, etc.. replace nv with nvidia], add nvidia to your/etc/modules
now either reboot or isnmod nvidia and launch startx. Boom NVIDIA drivers.
That is exactly why I bought OSX.;)

So YOU'RE the bastard who writes all those `you can make $$$$ working from home` ads?:)
No, that's not me. But if you need a bigger penis on your free vacation while you work with me to free $50,000,000 from a Nigerian back account for 30% commision, I'm your guy!

And listed in order of stability, too! Informative post. :)

Garbage! I telnet to port 80 on my 300 baud modem and type in HTTP commands myself. It's the only way. :)
Neither have I. ;)
I think that electrically shocking users just because they log into Windows XP is a bit harsh, no?
Am I now going to be fined thousands of dollars because of ONE wrong e-mail?
No, they're moving from FULL SPEED to HIGH SPEED.
What about TV? Movies? Magazines? Where does it end?
Huh? Did you mean IRC FULL CHAT and IRC HALF CHAT? :)
You're right! Apple prices are comming down a bit. :)
Is that 4.5 FULL WEIGHT or 4.5 HALF WEIGHT?
And I would like to know: Is that FULL SPEED 32bit or HIGH SPEED 32 bit?

I'll stick with my Windows XP that you very much. Easy and safe and I don't need to bother with an@33 9&*$# oWned by war3z_cr3W w0Ot!
