There's other approaches, too. In the genre of simulation sports of baseball and football and such, it is usually produced by one or two developers who "open up the process" to everyone and release public betas.
I find that this approach matches extreme programming to some degree if releases are done fairly regularly, and you can get a good read on the pulse (or lack of a pulse) on what the game should have above and beyond your original intentions.
The game I'm working on I release every two weeks if possible, and it has been a motivator to keep plugging ahead.
The steamless steam shovel was the best invention, by far. The inginuity to create that machine marveled my generation.
Ahh, the good old days...
Gasp! Get back to work on the gardening on the courtyard dias before I whip you more! Between you, the French, and Charlotte Wren, I know not which one will befall our great civilization.
Actually, after rereading, doesn't python's lambda or use of functions as objects address the same problem space as F#? (per the author's example on the "What's the purpose of F#?" page of the article? My python's rusty, but, isn't that one of the cool things about python? Couldn't a C# delegate do something similar? Can you tell VB is my native tongue?:-)
Well, I would argue that business website access (and all the related spam) is much higher than you would think. Why else do you have corporate solutions for spam and blocking internet access while you're on the job? There are a ton of people surfing when they shouldn't be - on a Monday.
But who knows? I don't think either of us is right because there's no way to really know without doing more research on it.
My theory is much more simple. Everyone on the Western half of the planet is going back to work and they really don't want to be working, so they *gasp* - hit the internet. I also believe people are more likely to be home at New Year's and Christmas in addition to the developers.
Well thought out article. I put less thought in my article, which is why it is at Slashdot.
"The inter-net is being taken from the infidels! They will be boiling in their own blood! Our corporations, bless Allah, are overcoming them right now. As a matter of fact, you are not even on the inter-net now because it has indeed been shot down."
"Go home and pray to your collective saviors. There will be much gnashing of teeth. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria."
"There will be more beautiful news tomorrow. Out of my press conference!"
Mod parent up as (+1) Informative, please.
So when does the PocketPool module come out?
Arm your Digimon against the Microsoft Menace!

Can we mix and match? :-)

Very brave, AC...
Sheesh.
And yes, we are losing our rights all over the place.

Dude, they don't have kidneys. Not this invertebrate. :-)
Apparently these guys didn't get hit hard in the eye with a nerf ball... that killed.
(BSA and Microsoft just had an orgasm),
Do Borg have orgasms?
The long, icy reach of SCO.... curses!
Oh wait? There is no conspiracy? Darn.
Yeah, but in a similar bill passed by the House of Representatives this week, the companies get a $12,000 tax break for each offense.
(Fiction can be fun...)
Wasn't that some command-line prompt game in 1983 somewhere?
I dunno. Meta-moderate. :-)
So all those glyphs from the Egyptians was really some sort of primitive multiple-player shoot-em up game?
Mod parent up, please... and yes, one API would be nice. Or at least give me a facade of one API and I'd be happy.

F-pound?
F-sharp?
F-UD?
Sheesh. Don't we have enough languages already? I thought C# was the absolute savior of the MS-centric tech world.
Just learn how to program in one language before you hit another one.
Most of it is then made into toilet paper ... so does the EULA fit on one-ply or two-ply? Do you have to break the seal by peeling the sheets apart?

My plans to run DeCSS with my Commodore-64 are now spoiled... 48 hours isn't enough time to get all the bits through the tape drive.
Yeah, but that guy was awesome. A real life T. Herman Zwiebel, a long-time publisher of (The Onion).

All 21 chemicals can be found in a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken...
Can you say, "Softwire"? I've never used it, but I think it has the same problems.
My personal preference is to use my own notation (on small projects), sketch it out relationally, and then code the objects and data tiers separate.
