Umm he knows the product. Moving between languages is lot easier than getting some up to speed on internal workings of a program. Basic computer science theorem is still the same. Most libaries are even standardized(ie:xml dom). Most of the good libraries are even ported across many languages(hibernate,log4java). Any good programmer is not bound to a language. Any decent university will teach their classes in a variety languages. I know in college I learned C,C++,Java, asp(vbscript),vb and even some perl in my unix administration class. In my datastructures class, my first class with c++, they didn't even teach the language and expected students to learn it on their own.
Right to execute a 14 year old should be left up to the states? Might as well go back to 150 years and allow states to determine whether people can own slaves or not. I love how the US lashes out at Iran when they executed a 16 year old girl, yet we execute younger kids and even the mentally retarded with the mind of a child. Cruel and unusual? Every 1st world nation except the US, doesn't execute kids.
Thats because most developers don't know how to program on multi proc systems. With a single core, only 1 instruction can be executed can be executed at a given time. You could in theory get away with writing code without using a montor or a mutex and have it run with a very low chance of failure. With multiple processors the exact same code will suffer from race conditions. There's also memory issues but this is getting more attention with the cpus executing things out of order. Finally started seeing sample code released by vendors that actually call MemoryBarriers, something you didn't see in the past.
For what type of applications? Gaming? I think not, if memory latency was a big concern for gaming, xeon chips with their large L2 cache would show great performance improvements but it doesn't. Databases? They do like extended L2 caches but you can get better performance by throwing it up on a RAID 0+1 Array pulling large amounts of data is very disk intensive. Office apps? Highly threaded, and see performances increases with hyperthreading or multiple procs. So what common application taxes the memory channel?
Ummm Google Maps, and gmail both use non standardized javascript. There's no way you can write a dynamic web application without picking a single browser or writing a bunch if statements to write behavior depending on the browser. Firefox even implements tags outside of w3c standards(ie: ).
Another exploit can out this weekend. The funny thing is that microsoft antispyware beta 1 detects the execution of the payload file and shows a prompt if you want continue or stop the execution.
The data tivo collects makes the Neilson system look like 1950's technology. Apple could better resell or use this information than tivo currently does.
Spyware that no one knows about. If you ask anyone with a tivo if they know that tivo is sending back their remote control click stream, they wouldn't know it since its buried deep in their TOS that they are. Tivo is making 1984 a reality, having our tvs spy on us.
Some games take advantage of 256M of ram by using larger textures. Doom3 is prime example, loading all your textures into video card stops the swapping from main memory thus getting you better performance. There aren't any games out that need 512 megs of video ram though, so buying it wouldn't get you any performance increase. Of course there aren't many games that take advantage of $600+ cards that are out but I guess some people need to blow their money on stuff, and $600 video card provides longer entertainment value than a couple hookers in vegas and $50 video card all which can be had at the same price. The later will be far a better gaming experience than what a $600 video card can deliver.
Plasma TVs are being pushed like crazy, but the things burn out, guaranteed. A friend of mine said a coworker dropped well over $4,000 on a top of the line plasma screen from Sony several years ago. One day, he pushed the power button, there was a fizz noise, and...that was that. He said sometimes they go dim, or parts stick on or off like a defective LCD, etc...sometimes it just doesn't turn on one day.
You pay the price for being an early adopter. New plasma screens have a 60,000 half life(Half brightness on screen). Thats 6 years of it being on constantly on. As for price, plasma tvs are relatively new. Hence they are expensive. They used to be $10k a piece. I have feeling they'll drop to below $1000 in a couple years. There's many choices for the consumer, you could get an lcd rear project, tube(42" tube would way a few hundred pounds), dlp.
Tivo is in the recording market, not the content market. Tivo's competitors are the VCR, DVD recorders and other recorders. None of these charge a monthly fee, which why its delusional for Tivo to think they can charge $13 when they aren't supplying the content.
People pay $50 a month for internet access(content provider). Do you think people would pay $13 a month for them to use their computer?
For people to pay $13 a month, tivo has to add value. Guide service isn't enough. For $13 a month I can get sat radio(content).
3) Tivo is spyware and deserves to to disappear. Not only do they collect you what stations you watch but your click stream of your remote so they know what your replaying and doing slowmo.
For you fan boys that say you can opt out, if tivo cared about our privacy they'd make it opt in. And wouldn't bury that they are spying on you, deep in their terms of service.
Tell me why linux is more secure than WinCE? These are embedded OSs. What are you gonna exploit on winCE or embedded linux? Also how is it more flexible? WindowsCE comes with source so you can strip out stuff you don't need and customize it. As for cost, it is less than $3 a device.
Asp.net 1.1 by default blocks the submission of form variables that contain html tags. Thats the error you get back, the developers didn't even bother to check it themselves. This check didn't exists in version 1.0 which makes me wonder how old this page is. But due to the stupidity of web developers, Microsoft added it.
Umm no thats a java servlet stack trace. Javascript != Java. And servlets are a server technology and HTTP 500 error is a webserver produced error. And apostrophe that causes an error is usually a clear indication of a sql injection vunerability but looking at the stack trace it's just a parse error trying to take a string and convert it to an int.
Thats where Paladium comes in, kernell calls can get intercepted. When the bios and cpu are both secured, only signed code is executed. No more problems. Love it or hate it, its administrator's dream to have that level control on servers. Its know its double edge sword and that it can also be used for DRM and limiting access, I wouldn't want it a consumer box but it makes perfect sense for the business world.

Did anyone read the article? It works for XP setting. You have access to their downloads. I think the author article should do some research before making broad assumptions. Because it doesn't work, doesn't mean it MS is blocking them. Author should watch what files it accesses and registry keys it pulls then, and use that to make an assumption. Lot of things don't work fully under WINE, its hardly proof of any malicous activity.
You know there is difference between a flaw and a vunerability? Showing the wrong icon on a messagebox. Showing the wrong dialog text. Windowing issues which i see a lot of. Race conditions.
TIVO is over, in your fairly land that you live in where spying on your activities is ok. People don't want it. Obviously people don't want tivo. Revenues are falling everyday. I sure hope you didn't pay for a lifetime serivce to your box, i can't see tivo lasting more than 2 years. Now if only gator, and other spyware would follow suit.
Or just goto to one many template sites and buy a template for $20 to $80. Drop your content in and your done. For dynamic driven content, grab nuke portal software. You can easily have full operating website in a weekend sans content of course.
I had an original directivo. I love the interface, its is the best interface for a pvr system out there. What left a bad taste in my mouth was they required a daily call. I didn't have a phone since my roommates and I all had cell phones, there was no point to shelling out $20 a month for a phone. I figured directivo needed the phone line for updates and guide, but browsing the forums, it was just used to spy on my viewing habits. Guide and updates were available over the satellite stream. Not only did I have to pay $5 for tivo service, but $20 for a stupid phone line. Thats like paying spyware companies to capture your information.
I recently switched to cable and moxi, mainly for hdtv since the directivo hd was over $1000 and the moxi reciever was only $8 month. I'm not sure if moxi is spying on me, but at least i'm not paying $20/m to let them spy on me.
Tivo had 1st movers advantage but blew it, they alienated lot of users like myself. I'd glady switch back to tivo if they removed their monthly fee, came out with a reasonable priced hd recorder and allowed me to have their service without being forced to get a phone line. I could careless about streaming videos, photos etc that they are coming out with. But with OnDemand, i find myself recording less and less stuff on my pvr. If cable companies offer ondemand for all channels instead of just premium channels, I would have no use for a pvr system. OnDemand is the killer application, if setup right, it will destory sat guys,PVRs, and dvd rental business. Dvds aren't hdtv unlike premium channels being offered on sat tv and cable. Difference is night and day.

Shopping cart is worth more. They are worth a couple hundred bucks a piece and people do steal them.

Richard Clarke, former white house cybersecurity, advisor, criticised microsoft security yet government has got substandard grades for security.

Maybe they should pull an Apple and sue Mercury News to disclose their source.
MD5 was cracked before this.
